phil taylor is a stud. hes the top NT prospect in the draft

everything starts from the inside out and phil taylor will definitly be the inside

he was on a lot of teams boards from 22 to 32 and there was very little chance you would've been able to get him at 27 considering i heard the saints were "VERY INTERESTED"

the only reason nobody has heard of him is because you guys all talked about the top 10 prospects in the draft but never considered the picks later in the round which is where it was obvious you'd be picking anyway considering its been a few years since the browns drafted at their original position

We are going to 4-3 so how does NT equate?????????????

In case you haven't noticed, but defenses in the NFL may be labeled as a 4-3, but during the course of a drive (much less a game) they will play a 4-3, 3-4, 46, nickel, dime or any hybrid of the afore mentioned. Forget the label.

  • just a quick tidbit on DE still available:

Brooks Reed: a fringe first round pick, strong player

Da'quan Bowers: Oh my God! I can't believe we didn't take him with that pick! he will never fall later and we missed out. That sounds so similar to colt mccoy it's scary really.

Justin Houston: I know he has character issues, but is a top 20 talent that's still available.

Man, it's almost our talented front office knows what they are doing...

  • Typical browns fan reaction....

Ward wasn't worth trading up for either....how'd that turn out again?

  • I'm happy with our draft so far, and I'm getting more and more frustrated reading all the Negative Nellie's comments on a guy that hasn't even laced up a cleat yet...........Maybe we'll get a super sexy pick tomorrow to make some here happy. Later!

Im not mad at the pick. Im mad we had to trade up from 27 to get him. Bowers was more than adequate if Taylor was gone at 27.

    DUMB.

  • If Chiefs were slotted to have Taylor, why did they give up the pick?

  • In the new 4-3 we are going to use smaller ends, so wouldn't make sense to have two huge DT's? This guy has done nothing but get better since he got into college and that not only includes his football talent but his character issues as well. Him and Rubin are going to be used to take two linemen at a time, freeing up one of the DE's or a LB on a pass rush. On the off chance they try to get this guy one on one... well my money is on Taylor.

Remember Heckert and Holmgren know things that we don't. They knew about Ward, which turned out good so once again before you start calling this guy a bust, you might as well just wait until the season starts and you see him work.

  • We came out of day one with a sorely needed starter on the Dline, an extra 2nd,4th, and a 1st next year while giving up our 3rd. I'd call that a pretty big success. My faith in our FO grows by the day.

all I can say buddy is that i'm sure glad you post on a browns forum and don't run our team. Like I'm not going to be a dick, but honestly man you just need to digest the situation a little bit an realize just how good we made out. Bowers clearly wasn't first round talent, and if Heckert and Holmgren saw Taylor as the player they wanted they made the right decision. you have NO idea what info they had about Taylor's draft position, I guarantee they knew that he wasn't going to be there at 27. That was their guy, and they've done nothing to prove to me that they make bad decisions

We gave up a third round pick to move UP 6 spots to take a player that we could have had at the same position (27). KC took a WR!! Everything GOOD we did by making the Atlanta trade was lost when we lost our 3rd round pick.

Let's pray we can nail our 2nd round picks (unless we blow them again ala Robo and MoMass).

Or pray we have a F/A plan.

    1. You have no idea if Taylor would have been there at 27. Obviously our FO thought he wouldn't. No offense but I'll defer to them in that respect.

    2. Trading a 3rd some how negates picking up an extra 1st, 2nd, and two 4ths? Seems reasonable. 🙄

If the Raven's eventually drafted Jimmy Smith, then why did they try to get a trade together with the 26 pick to only take so long that they lost it? WHO KNOWS. Maybe the Chiefs had two guys graded the same so they decided to let us have the one so they could get a draft pick and the other guy they wanted.

  • KC was going to take this guy. Taylor was by far the #1 NT at the senior bowl. A run-stopping DT in the middle of the line is what we've needed since Rogers was cut, and this guy is the best in the draft at that task.

Browns D has been horrible against the run since the trucks left for Baltimore. This is a good move.

We also get an extra pick tomorrow (2nd) and next year's first.

All I know is we better draft at least one WR tomorrow. I know thats an ignorant statement, but I hope our organization sees the need at WR like us fans do.

  • Phil Taylor/Heckert Interview

Answers some questions. Expected to be used on all passing downs while having a smaller guy come in on some passing downs for one of our big guys. Keeps our two middle men fresh, and makes our rush defense instantly better. The guy cried. I like him.

Also those injury concerns with his foot are false. The rumor was that he has a disorder where the bones in his foot fuse together, but all the doctors from the NFL and for the Browns did all the X-Rays and said those claims were 100% false.

  • Phil Taylor Positives

If you read this you will find some things that can make you like the kid. I thought they said that he lost over 40 pounds since the end of the season, but apparently he lost it over his 3 year career at Baylor, which actually impresses me more because it means he was constantly losing the weight while also keeping it off. Also people knock him on his stamina, also in his 3 years at Baylor he was never in trouble and eventually became an honor role student which shows he has put those character issues behind him.

Most impressive to me is that people knock him on his stamina, but he still played on average 80 snaps a game his senior season. Fairley only averaged 35-40 snaps last year.

LOL WHAT HIB??!?!?!!?!?!?!? We used our 1st round pick on a situational defensive lineman??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

maybe you should research the pick before you knock it

phil taylor was the best NT available...he was probably the 3rd best DT in the draft and you got him at 21.....be thankful there is finally some stability on the defensive line

or maybe you forgot that in a 4-3 you need at least 2 DTs on the field at any given time

  • Please someone read this guy's Twitter, then make your own conclusion. WOW

Figures, the dumbest person on this board would support the trade up. Pizzadude, get xxxxin lost.

Your short-sightedness is amusing. The reason you pick up extra picks is to have the ability to move around and select who you want. Our FO did this to perfection.

Guess we have Gerrard Warren, Part 2.
