    This site is awesome when the right people are posting and talking about relevant topics with legitimate arguements/views. So sick of this QB talk, i dont care what QB comes in here, if we dont give our QB some weapons on offense then how the hell is he going to be successful? We have midgets as WR's and 3rd string running backs not to mention OL problems! So how are we blaming Mccoy for the offensive woes? He's always throwing on the run with a widow of about a nickel to get it into our slow WR's.

    Jake your a moron.

    everybody knows we do not have weapons, with colt its about how he throws the ball, reading defenses. How quick he can get rid of the ball, Arm strenth to get the ball where it needs to go. I wish Colt was the real thing, I really do. Problem Colt does not have anything that makes me believe he can be the real thing. No Arm Strenth, can not read a Defense, ball flight is really bad, does not have a quick release. If you gave him Blackmon he still could not get him the ball....

    Everybody on this board for the most part are Browns fans, some people want RG3 some want Blackmon, shit I want both!!!! How many game does our Pro Bowl left tackle win us a yr, last yr how many games did our Madden Boy win us?? Point is over the 12 yrs we have not drafted playmakers to get the ball in the end zone. Now I am happy with our draft over the past two yrs, Our defense stats show that!!!!

    What playmakers have we draft in the first 2 rounds over hte past 12 yrs?? Edwards 1 good yr, K2-Moron now in Tampa, Willie Green how did that work out, KJ Did well with Couch. If we keep doing what we are doing we will never become a winning football team. We have to get a QB that can make a impact!!! Saying this will RG3 be great his first yr?? maybe, maybe not, but he does have the skill set to be that ZVick type player minus the dog killing

    Getting another O-lineman in the first does us nothing!!!! Getting another defense player with our first pick does nothing ,but lose games 9-7 instead of 17-7. Getting Blackmon would be great but we still do not have a QB to get him the ball.

    Who touches the ball everyplay in the NFL?? the center and QB....We have the Center, now its time for the QB

  • ohh and playmakers..How many playmakers are on the Pats, Saints, Packers that where drafted in the first round?? To lazy to look it up, but I know its not much if any

    The gun can fire only if there is bullets in it, But who cares if it is loaded if there is no finger to pull the trigger ? A WR like Greg Little if used as a No 2 or No 3 receiver in a good team will be making much more productive and we will all be looking at him and saying why cant we draft WR's like him ! McCoy is part of the reason why we are bad, not THE reason we suck, But for us to completely shield McCoy like he is a victim is pure nonsense.

    I'm not shielding Mccoy, I'm saying we dont know how good he can be, we are pathetic and a bunch of losers. We have been the worst offensive team for over a decade, for reasons that tampadawgs made for me, we never have playmakers nor do we ever draft playmakers. We the browns will start winning when we can put weapons on the field. Perfect case senario, Mccoy is the starter we draft Richardson and Wright/Floyd whoever will be there, sign a few free agents on the Line and WR core. Combine that with our up n coming defense and I will sit back and tell you I Told You So.

    Jakes not a moron and youre not as smart as you think. Colt can make any NFL throw but he hasnt because of the pressure and reads he's been seeing. The lack of protection and running game he has been saddled with this season has added to the type of defenses he has had to throw against. I could make a million arguments to the fact that Colt is a good NFL quarterback who needs time and the right personnel around him to succeed but it would fall on deaf ears in this forum because more than half of the people here are already convinced that Colt is an average/backup QB in this league. The fact is that Colt did not produce as much as any of us would have liked him to because of a number of extenuating circumstances. You could put a new QB in place and he may even get you a few more wins but that does not mean he is the QB to build your franchise around. An athletic QB is important, but there are several factors that make a QB successful in this league. Colt possesses a number of the characteristics of a franchise QB and you can build on those characteristics if you are willing to be patient. Consistency is the mark of a champion. A good FO rarely blows up a team or completely cleans house, because they know that it results in a loss of corporate knowledge and that it takes time to implement a new system and to replace the personnel suited to a previous system. A change of guard also breeds dissention in the locker-room because there is bound to be a remaining core of players from a previous regime who may be hesitant to trust/follow the new coach and management. To many fans, this all seems like useless banter or the "business" of football. To these fans, this information is irrelevant because its "talent that wins games, not politics", but the fact remains that the good teams find a way to field a group of players who are cohesive and consistent and that is exactly what the Browns have NOT been. Its easy to look at the leagues elite and compare your losing team's QB to theirs and find stats to support your claim that "this QB is a backup at best", "a scrub", "not the answer", but the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. Whether its because of a dominant running game, a stifling defense, a marquee WR, or a QB like Vick who forces defensive coordinators to change their schemes/looks/personnel, where there is a dominant force on the team they make the deficient look better on paper. This is the ying and yang of football and it doesnt only exist in football. It is no surprise that once Hillis was able to find some consistency and his injury began to heal up and allow him to play faster and looser that other aspects of the Browns' game began to prosper. The same is true of the other great teams in the league. When you have double TE sets that force defenses to play different personnel to account for that threat as well as the recievers who pose a threat, you change the frequency with which the opposing offense sees the field. You don't only eat the clock up with a running game. In that same way, you can only put so much on one player before they have to take to the sideline. . .see Calvin Johnson. The idea is to find consistency and right now the Browns have a very good QB who can only get better; this position is reason to rejoice. Bring in competition, sure, but address your deficiencies first. You need an every down back or at the very least another durable back to work under Hillis. You need to find a long reciever who can provide a consistent threat and perhaps veteran leadership to the other burgeoning WR's. There is ZERO leadership in that corps right now. You need to work on the entire secondary and look for a legit Mike LB. You need to fix the O-line, big time. You need to find defensive personnel that will allow you to blitz the fronts like those of the Saints and Packers. And I'm sick and tired of this bullshit about Colt's arm not being strong enough. You know what? Neither is Drew Brees' or Tom Brady's. Matt Stafford is a stronger QB than both of them. You know who else is? JaMarcus Russell. I can go on. . .Vince Young. And on and on. McCoy has the strength, touch, and intelligence to make all of the reads and throws. Address other positions for God's sake. The fact that everybody doesn't see that this is the issue and that it is as clear as day is what surprises the shit out of me.

    Good Post but the truth is that this is now a QB driven league and it will only continue to get worse, if we wanna play with the big boys we need a QB who can..

    The only real exception here is the Pittsburgh Steelers, who do not have an outstanding O-line but DO boast a dominant defense and a consistent running game, year in and year out. On top of that, if anyone is going to take a pounding and get back up, its Ben Rothlisberger. But tbh the kind of preotection Rothlisberger has gotten historically has probably already taken years off of his career. Look at teams like Denver and NY whose QBs arent as good as Colt, and you see that they have fantastic defenses and running games. Speaking of running games, look at Atlanta. I could go on. Something always has to give. Right now, the QB is not the area that needs to take precedence.

    This IS a QB driven league, I agree. But you dont see immediate production or straightaway championships from many QBs. Its not like with running backs where you can get an idea of their ability right away and who can contribute almost immediately. The position takes time to develop and protection is key to developing a QB. Look at the leagues best, they have consistent protection at the offensive line and usually have some relief at the running back position.

    Yes, it is my personal opinion that Colt McCoy is a better quarterback than both Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow.

    Also, if you read and watch sports articles/shows, you will see that the main contingent of people who are a proponent of replacing Colt McCoy or who write him off as a career backup are sports critics or journalists. When you get the opinions of people who have actually played the position like Dilfer or Gannon, you see that they aren't as fast to write him off, because they understand the position he is in and personnel he has to support him. They almost always say things like, "remember, he's still a young QB, these. things. take. time." or "he really needs to have a group of playmakers around him to work with" or "he would benefit from better protection" or "he's an outstanding young man, but he's just not in the best position over there in Cleveland".

  • you do not need a great QB to get there... Flaco, Yates, Tebow, A. Smith. If stephen hawkings could coach a footaball team their offense would be awesome...our running backs would run into a black hole and shoot out a worm hole for a TD.

    The same Colts with the same O Line and without Peyton Manning and an unproven QB = worst team this year. Im sorry buddy, while ur points are good you are undervaluing the need for a franchise QB a lot.

    Payton would have loved to have had anything even closely resembling a running game. But yes, Payton is the huge difference maker there. I will give you that. I am not seriously undervaluing the need for a "Franchise QB", I just think that what most people see when they think of one is the physical ability and they undervalue many of the other characteristics that make a QB successful and worthy of building a franchise around. Furthermore, several people are deluded into thinking that a QB can do it all by himself and even go so far as to discredit and insult the supporting casts of offensive players and defensive personnel that make a huge difference in the way a QB is able to play the game. I think Colt can be a great QB, thats how much I believe in him, but he isnt being given much help or time to get the train moving.

  • You pay the mortgage, then the insurance.

    For a QB to excel, he needs a solid line. With that said, the only two positions on the line that should be addressed in the first round are LT and C. (for a right handed QB). We have addressed those positions. We are a bookend tackle away from having a very solid line, but that tackle does not need to be found in the first round. That is a waste of a pick.

    And, as of this moment, we have no franchise QB to protect anyway.

    2010 Offensive line rankings in pass protection

    Colts-#1

    Packers=#5

    Saints=#3

    Pats=#11

    Do you see the correlation on the other side of the coin?

    The same Colts with the same O Line and without Peyton Manning and an unproven QB = worst team this year. Im sorry buddy, while ur points are good you are undervaluing the need for a franchise QB a lot.

    Also, a big part of what makes that team so epically sheisty is their defense. Bad.

    Having too many solid offensive linemen is a great problem to have, first of all. Second of all, you dont have to draft a lineman in the first, you can draft another offensive skill player. Lastly, I respectfully disagree with you in regard to Colt and whether or not he is a "Franchise QB". I think he needs more time and you should address other positions. If the best player available on the board is RGIII and you bring him into to compete, then good. But I think you have a ton of other holes to fill.
