IMHO, this was another solid move. This regime has shown that they will cut dead wood as needed & pay to keep the viable players. What may be most impressive is that players like Joe Thomas & DQ have CHOSEN to stay here rather than opt for free agency where they would have been popular targets for a number of already good teams. I love the display of loyalty (from players AND FO) & it shows that the players are buying into managements philosophy & goals. It ain't the same as BHH (Before Holmgren & Heckert). So far, we have had 2 solid drafts & some very good contract extensions. I am really pumped for this year's free agency period & draft.

    Check MLB off the list!

Draft or trade for a FAST OLB.

Fujita is nearly as old as me and Maiva, well, his name just reminds me of Peter Maivia, the Rock's grandaddy.

That and he is NOT fast.

    And Maiva's Great Grand Daddy.

Ok, true confessions time. I saw Peter Maivia wrestle in Wheeling, WV in the 70s. I was a kid and it was a trip. He had more tattoos than the entire population of WV combined.

Wonder if the Rock can play tight end? Maybe LB?

He played DE for the U and won a national championship. He eventually lost his spot to Warren Sapp after he suffered a sever injury that eventually ruined his chance at playing professional football.

Specifics on D'Qwell's contract. Seems only 10.4 million guaranteed, not the reported 19 mill.. looks good, good job front office!

^ Makes me feel better given his injury history...

DQJ would make a fast OLB... 😛 ... but does he have the cover skills?

Not saying he's a bad MLB, but he's not a run stopper. Speed in a MLB can be spectacular, can rack up impressive individual stats, but speed w/o strength in the middle is an invitation to run all day long. DQJ just doesn't have the ability to plug the middle.

In your debt for spelling "Maivia" correctly... Was wondering WTF "Maiva" was for a half-dozen posts.

    We need more Samoans...

  • This is a great first move to this off season. If DQ walks we have another hole to fill.

Hopefully now we franchise Dawson if we can't work out something for a couple years(not sure if you franchise a guy back to back years??)

I heard John Clayton say the other day that a player can be franchised 3 yrs in a row and each year they get a 10% raise above the franchise salary

I didn't know that, in fact, I didn't know he was eligible two years in a row.

Surely, we have a non-kicker we have to get re-signed soon that is worth tagging. When is haden's contract up? We will probably have to start negotiating his send deal soon.

Haden is signed through 2015, he'll make 10 mil per year until then. As far as re-signing him to a long term that won't happen, the Browns would most likely want to sign him to a long term contract backloaded so he'd end up taking a pay cut in the early years. Haden's agent is Drew Rosenhaus so get ready to say sayonara to Joe come 2015.
