I have done a survey of 100 mock drafts, and here is how things stack up:

Dee Milliner was taken 60 times

    Ezekial Ansah taken 9 times

    Dion Jordan taken 7 times

    Barkevious Mingo taken 7 times

    Geno Smith taken 4 times

    Chance Warmack taken 3 times

    Tavon Austin taken 2 times

Xavier Rhodes taken 2 times (after trades)

    DJ Hayden taken one time

Lane Johnson OT taken one time

    Desmond Trufant taken one time

    Kenny Vaccaro taken one time

    Sharif Floyd taken one time.

Anyone mocking an OT to the browns deserves their head examining.

Todd McShay has his Mock 5.1 posted and has the Browns taking Tyler Eifert, TE, Notre Dame. First time I've seen that...

Also, Walter Cherepinski from walterfootball.com has the Browns taking Star Lotulelei at #6...

I doubt either of these come true.

Yea, OK, I understand going for the BPA rather than need. Maybe Lotulelei could be the BPA if he is still around at #6, but every service I have seen would have the choice of Eifert at #6 as a major reach.

I think what McShay may be claiming is that the Browns may in fact trade down....even do a double trade down like in '09 to take Eifert.....its just that he says that he cannot factor in trades in his mock draft.

So? You can't factor trades, yet you factor in major reaches that would only be viable with a trade? WTF kind of thinking is that?

I still think the Browns can go for a position of need....as long as the talent at that position fits the slot. If Milliner is not the answer, then maybe it is wise to take Ansah or Jordan.

Question here: I have read/heard several times that at least 50% of the "major pass rushers" who are taken high in the draft end up being busts in the pros. And I agree, given the Browns experience (can you say Courtney Brown/Gerard Warren/Kameron Wimbley?). So, it seems that the Jordans/Ansahs/Jones selections might be iffy.

I wonder what the "success rate" is for Defensive backs? Any one have any idea?

Gerard Warren wasn't drafted to be a pash rusher and Kam Wimbley wasn't really a bust.

But to your point, I've read that there isn't really a lot of differences in the positions as far bust rate goes. I'm not sure if CB would be considered any riskier of a top ten pick than other positions.

It may be a little safer in that if they aren't a great cover guy, they can still have a career as a safety. And if you are drafted as a tackle, you can always fall back into a decent career as a guard (Robert Gallery) ... but if you are draft as a pas rusher and you can't get to the QB ... you're done.

Well, I may go along with Warren who was a DT and supposed to plug up the middle....but Wimbley, no. He was brought here to be a pass rusher on the edge...and in his rookie season with 11 sacks it looked like he may have been the shit. But then, in the next 3 years he totalled 15.5 sacks, and I recall that he basically disappeared in many, many games.

I guess it depends on what you want to call a bust. He was drafted with the 13th pick in the first round and he has 48.5 career sacks and has played seven seasons in the NFL, and been a starter thoughout all seven. He signed for five years $35 mil last year.

No he didn't fulfill the expectations of Browns fans when Savage drafted him, but he's had a decent career. If you start in the NFL for eight years I don't think you are a bust in the middle of the first round.

Courtney Brown had 19 sacks and was out of the league five years after being the #1 overall pick. That's a bust.

I guess my definition is "did he do it for the Browns". He began producing so little for the Browns that they felt compelled to trade him...or at least they thought him dispensible enough to trade. He and Warren may have done "OK" elsewhere, but they each failed to do what we expected them to do here for the Browns. We/I expected Warren to be the second coming of Michael Dean Perry or Warren Sapp....he wasn't. And We/I expected Wimbley to be a 10-12 sack a year man for a number of years. At times he wasn't even half that.

it all depends on if there is a trade option. if nobody wants to move up. then we pick millner @6.

i'll bet a 6pack of hoegarten on it.

Yep, I think that's it. If someone in the 10-14 region offers a trade including their second rounder I think you'll see us biting their hand off for it.

i guess i'd be a guy laying on some psych's couch cuz if we actually did trade down and wormack is sitting there....i'm picking him...only if i know i can get the 2nd - 3rd rated CB or FS with the next pick.

times have changed my friend. you'll see the OLmen flying off the board faster than skill position players (i.e. WRS, RBs etc.). people like calofax and i drool over a guy that can solidify your front seven for 10+ years and knock the shit out of guys trying to rush your QB or stuff the run.

IMO it's the only offensive pick we should making in this draft. i think we are pretty much set on that side of the ball, for now considering QB play this year).

on defense however, if we don't get the trade down offer it will be millner then best FS on board with our first 2 picks. (that's if i was GM). god knows who lombardi goes after. i wouldn't be surprised if he picks mingo at 6 and a nice chianti in the 3rd.

Chance Warmack after trading down, no problem. OG is clearly a need for us. But I was talking about the OT, Lane Johnson. We already have our LT, and Schwartz is doing very nicely at RT.

times have changed my friend. you'll see the OLmen flying off the board faster than skill position players (i.e.

We already have our LT, and Schwartz is doing very nicely at RT.

yeah. i don't differentiate positions on the OL from guard to tackle etc. if you can block. you can block.

changing a guard to tackle could be a bit of a stretch but the vice versa would be a piece of cake. people love the glamour picks of WR and RBs and QBs. sure they win you the game. but if not for those guys on the line (both sides) you ain't doing shit.

i guess i'd be a guy laying on some psych's couch cuz if we actually did trade down and wormack is sitting there....i'm picking him...only if i know i can get the 2nd - 3rd rated CB or FS with the next pick.

                                  Not quite.

At this level, any OL should be able to block anywhere, I'll agree. But there's a bunch of small factors that differentiate tackles from interior linemen. Physical attributes, lateral quickness, dominant handedness are all factors in setting up an offensive line. It's true that the differences are slight, but these slight differences can yield drastically different results.

There's a reason that they aren't lumped together come draft time.
