I like McCarron. I Think he will be a solid pro.

McCarron can barely see over the line he has now...he'll be a clipboard holder...sorry

The line he has now is as big as any pro line, ain't it?

Here are the schools that have produced the top 20 QBs in NFL history in terms of overall production for a career (per PFR):

    1. Southern Mississippi ...Favre

    2. Georgia...Tarkenton

    3. Tennessee...P. Manning

    4. Pitt...Marino

    5. Louisville...Unitas

    6. Stanford...Elway

    7. Michigan...Brady

    8. Kentucky...Blanda

    9. BYU...Young

    10. Washington...Moon

    11. Notre Dame...Montana

    12. Augustana...Ken Anderson

    13. Purdue...Brees

    14. Oregon...Van Brocklin Fouts

    15. Purdue...Dawson

    16. Kansas....Hadl

    17. Duke....Jurgenson

    18. Miami....Testaverde

    19. Purdue...Griese

    20. LSU...Tittle

Purdue with 3 is only school with more than one.

Sorry PFR- Fouts rates. Make the 2 Oregon quarterbacks. LOL, means we should draft Mariotta. Bridgewater is from Louisville. Kentucky may have produced Blanda but they also gave us Tim Couch.

Understand that the PFR Career average stat has a great deal to do with longevity. It is a function of gross statistics quite a bit.

A Vinny Testaverde who played a long time will have a higher career averag than say Bernie Kosar in his prime...but whose career was cut short. Vinny was not the QB that Bernie was. It is like saying: who had the more productive pitching career, Jim Kaat who played until 45 years old, or Sandy Koufax who was done at about age 30.

Kaat has by far more wins/strikeouts etc. etc.....but who really was the better pitcher?

Well yes, the same can be said about NFL quarterbacks-.Vinnie T. put up some big numbers due to longevity- I doubt he'll ever make the HOF, because when you come right down to it, he was a pretty mediocre quarterback who lasted a long time.

OTOH- Fouts played 15 seasons in the NFL- plenty long enough in my book, and was definitely not mediocre.

And he IS in the HOF....so the world agrees with you. ❗

I'll bite... How did Starr win 5 National championships???

Maybe getting that guy from Alabama, AJ McCarron wouldn't be a bad idea considering the championship pedigree of Alabama QBs?

Works for me... (nothing new there).

Another trade up that lives in infamy...

I think he means NFL Championships.

I know, I know ... Shut up and get the AFC North picks done.

Professional Football Championships These can include NFL Championship games...AFL Championship Games, AAFC Championship games, SuperBowl Championship games.

... and Purdue gave us Phipps...

Well, you could say that for every school on the list probably:

LSU gave us Tittle.....and Jamarcus Russell.

Oregon gave us Van Brocklin....and Joey Harrington and Akili Smith

Notre Dame gave us Montana and Theissmann.....and Brady Quinn...and Tommy O'Connell (took over for OG..and did a bad job)....and George Ratterman.

Texas gave us Bobby Layne....and Colt McCoy (if we are sticking with the theme of failed Browns QBs)

La. Tech gave us Terry Bradshaw...and Luke McCown

    BYU gave us Ty Detmer

But note: Purdue gave us Phipps....but it also gave Gary Danielson.

USC gave us Bill Nelsen.....and Paul McDonald

And note this......for all its prowess as a QB school....Miami Fla. has never produced QB to win a Pro title....but Miami OH. has!

Another trade up that lives in infamy...

  • I'd like to see this by number of pro bowls

  • I'd like to see this by number of pro bowls

Great Idea! You are now in charge of doing the research to come up with that.
