Id say it solidifies his stock.

    That's just NOT NORMAL.

    It's almost 'super humanish'.

    266 lbs..WOW!

I honestly don't see how anyone can pass on him at any draft position.

If a QB is extremely important because it's a passing league then doesn't it stand to reason that so is someone that can pound a QB into the ground?

That was unofficial. Official will be like a 4.53

    but still, holy shit

    I agree with Sapp

His official could conceivably be like a 4.45. Dri Archer's official was faster than his un-officials.

Put up 21 reps in the bench press... kind of alarming when a punter can put up 23.

Makes you wonder if his work ethic concerns are valid.

Then again a lot of people think the bench press might be overrated & sometimes the taller guys struggle a bit.

That punter is a freak. I'd be training that guy to be a TE or something.

    😁

Not a true guess though. They did a simulcast of him and DeAnthony Thomas running, he just lost to Thomas and Thomas ran a 4.50 flat.

If you look at the top 10 guys on the DL for the combine bench press none of them have done anything in the NFL. Plus, being as tall as he is, and having arms as long as he does, makes the bench press harder.

    I'd say you're right.

I don't think it's the most important part for DEs.

I mean, Robert Quinn, Jared Allen, Aldon Smith were <22 reps too.

    His speed definitely is impressive.

I do not think we can pass up this kid if he falls to us. And if Pettine is the kind of coach I think he is, he will whip this boy into shape real fast and turn him into a complete monster.

I hate the 225lb test...it's dumb and means absolutely nothing. It's been categorically proven to not test field strength. But guys who know they're draft stock may not be that high start training it up a year out and become combine stars. Guarantee you that Clowney wasn't specifically training his 225 until after the season ended. Everybody gushed about Margus Hunt last year and his 225 and 40 marks....where is he now? I have no idea, have heard nothing about him. Is he still on someone's roster? Did he get on the field once this year? Bjoern Werner put up 24 or 25 times, Ansah put it up like 22 or 23....Werner got major playing time on the Colts at the end of the year subbing in for Mathis. Ansah I beleive became the starting DE for the Lions somewhere midseason. The 225 means approx shit. WHen you have a bench behind you supporting you...you're not bringing your core into the lift, which is the basis of field strength. CLowney plays with some of the most explosive leverage I"ve ever seen. And a couple years in the NFL and he'll put up 30+ on the 225 too for whatever that means.

THat speed though cannot be taught. And he's not straight line either, he's fluid and can change direction.

I wouldn't draft him. He'll go way, way high, but his work ethic and character is questionable.

Does depend on interviews at the combine, and with former coaches, etc.

Amazing physical, intangibles....eh.... at least Suh had a work ethic.

The last thing the Browns need, is a defensive lineman.

With 34.5" arms, it makes it difficult to throw a lot of weight around because there is more movement.

Although Stephen Paea put up 49 reps with 32 7/8" arms though. And a kid, Daniel McCullers, with 36 5/8" arms through up 27 reps.

So I understand both arguments that arm length should or shouldn't have an effect on your benching abilities. Still, his one rep max out would be over 360 lbs. I tried calculating it with an online calculator, but it would only let me do up to 20 reps, and said 363.6 lbs. No one in the NFL is that big and it's more about leverage than pure strength.

well see now that's the thing...we don't know if we're staying 3-4, 4-3...or some kind of hybrid. Well now what's really the thing is that kid can play in all 3 of those defenses. We can put him on the edge in a base 4-3, we can stand him up in a 3-4 just like we ask Sheard and Kruger. Or he can stand up, sit down..whatever he feels like given the situation. Which is what I hope we do with him. He's the prototype hybrid. I hope we draft him and implicitly make it known to Sheard and Kruger that one of them becomes expendable next year so they better produce. If we take him this year than we probably let groves go. We'll have Mingo backing up Sheard and Clowney backing up Kruger. If Sheard and Kruger up their game next year, we could have an outside rush better than KC's.

Leverage, speed, and legs are all more important IMO.

He'll be fine. Probably will be a monster.

I'd rather have Clowney or Kruger just play DE in a 3-4 if we arent gonna line him up at OLB on a regular basis. I dont want to draft another pass rusher and have him be a backup 2 years in a row.

We could have a DL looking like Bryant - Taylor - Kruger/Clowney

    With our LBs looking like Sheard/Mingo - DQwell? - Rookie/FA/Robertson? - Clowney/Kruger

Maybe Mingo can play a little ILB, IDK just a thought.

Just based on what we already have, we'd have to probably trade someone for it to make sense, and with 10 picks, I doubt were really looking to add picks in this years draft.
