  • Every kickoff is a free kick. Whoever recovers the ball gets possession. The rule is it has to be kicked and travel a certain distance.

You did not know the "certain" distance" off the top of your head?

  • Yeah teams need to quit coming up with unique strategies to win games and should accept the loss.

  • I wanted to say 10 or 15 yards...

  • This ranks right up there with the assclown who tried to convince us that the winning team "kneeling down" to run out the clock was a bullshit way to win a game and it shouldn't be allowed.

and the funny thing is that the "kneel down" is what we would get if they outlawed onside kicks.....every time....

yeah, THATS exciting.......and much more fair to both teams...not!

here's an interesting fact...only 3 teams kicked more on side kicks than GB in 2014......So, the team that lost because of one, is one of the teams that kick the most......kind of ironic, eh??

  • Personally I think there is nothing more entertaining then the surprise onside kicks. Seeing the oh Sh!t look of the front group trying to stop, and turn to get the ball. Even if the offense recovers the defense can still hold them. I like it.

  • Kicking.

  • Punting.

  • My team won 'cuz the kicker made the ball bounce funny. So cool. How about kick the other team's ass without the artificial bullshit.

FYI trick plays have been around almost as long as football.

Packer fans must have been thrilled getting fucked out of a Super Bowl chance on a bullshit on-side kick. Aaron Rodgers was banged up but he got his team in position to win. OP doesn't have 100,000 posts so his opinion is shit. Doesn't matter, his opinion is shit anyway.

Then recover the damn ball. Browns got beat a few years back by the Patriots the same way.

Come on. The NFL has done its very best, IMHO, to take excitement out of the game.

An Onside Kick is one of the few remaining ways to get excitement at the end of a game. Granted, they don't work all that often but the do put some drama where drama is do.

Here is another idea that, I believe, will return NFL games to some sort of 'mystery'.

Kickoffs have become so lame - seems like the vast majority of them are Touchbacks. Like with the NBA when they stopped Jump Balls every time there was a 'tie up', the NFL might consider taking kickoffs off the table and - instead - give the receiving team on the 20 yard line. If compromise is needed, how about the 25 yard line. How many kickoffs are returned beyond the 25 yard line any way.

Move the hash marks way, way wider so FGs become more of a challenge, encouraging teams to go for First Downs / Touch Downs rather simply bring their auto-kicker on the field to kick a ball straight for, say, 40 yards. This is crazy but, how about detracting a point if a team misses a FG?

Maybe 7 points for a TD and no need for a PAT unless they choose to go for 2 points. Speed up the games more.

The problem, or one of the problems with any of these is they might result in less commercial time (GOD is it miserable sitting at a game when all the TV commercials are run. For crying out loud, the players have to do exercises to keep limber through these, seemingly, unending and unnecessary time-lags take place.

    Some food for thought.

Feel free to criticize any of the above but, to be more productive, try making a few suggestions of your own to make the game more 'fan friendly'. On the field stuff, not simply lowering ticket prices, etc.

Well, after watching the Pro Bowl- I think there's one experiment that's going to get instituted. Make the goal posts 4' narrower- and make the PAT snap from the 15 yard line. Vinaterri missed a couple extra points. Kickers have just gotten too darn good. I'm old enough to remember when the goal posts were ON the goal line- they can't move them back any farther.

  • No more roughing the punter penalties. Punting is for sissys anyway. 😆

  • Just in. The Browns are moving to L.A. The second largest TV market has needed a team for a while. Good for them.
