Vince Mayle = Braylon Edwards 2.0 (fixed)
-
I wouldnt say it's slow....especially for a bigger WR......burners are 4.2ish, but he's not supposed to be that.....
Dez Bryant and AJ greene are a couple of 4.5 guys, so Id say it's at least average for a larger receiver.....
.
Well, let's see, on here he has been compared to Josh Gordon, Dez Bryant and AJ Greene. Are we perhaps going overboard a bit on him? I certainly hope that it would turn out to be that way.

Watching Mayle tape, What I like, he works to get open than when the ball is up Mayle has the fight of Dez and AJ to go get the damn ball. Compared to Josh long jogging strides, a pleasant site could be on the way with playing time.

Remember when Steptoe was Braylon 2.0? (talent-wise)

Mayle ran a 4.67 at the combine to Gordon's 4.53 at his 2012 Pro Day.

gordon's pro day coming off his 2nd failed drug test?
i'll take the .14 difference all day long from a guy that isn't going to fuck his team.
-
The comparison is in both Josh and Vince's first few steps and the smooth stride. You don't see much wasted motion with either of them.

Yeah he did... and it was his first ever 40 and was disappointing.....
so he ran again and had a 4.56 and a 4.52......

yes...pro day times.....but, no matter where....if you run 4.5, then you have 4.5 speed....
At the combine, he was limited due to his broken thumb and no training or practice with running the 40.....and, at the last minute, he also had to reverse his natural starting stance from left to right, which cost him....

Forget his 40 times, the big question is how many of those plastic thingies did he swipe during the 'jump real high' test? As we all know, that test along with the 'how fast can you boogie around the cones' test are the real indicators of just how good a football player will be.

I actually think the boogie around cones test holds some weight.
Not that it indicates future NFL success, but that it is a better representation of the ahtleticism and abilities of players.

Oh, so pro day numbers outweigh combine numbers if you like the prospect enough? Got it.

whatever woody.....go ahead and put words in my mouth....
someone simply asked how fast is he compared to Gordon and I gave him an answer......and NOW we have to haggle some bull shit about where it was timed?....or how some other time somehow supersedes it?......
Gordon ran 4.53 at his pro day.....Mayle ran 4.52 at his pro day....meaning they are comparable....which was the WHOLE point...
So why you and Baconhound find issue with that and need to turn it into something else is beyond me....
fwiw...dude ran a 4.52 and a 4.56....as well as a 4.67.....the 4.67 does NOT mean he cant run 4.52(he did, didnt he)???....and if he CAN run 4.52, does that not mean he has 4.52 speed....?
So....what exactly is your point?.....that he cant or hasnt run 4.5?......
-
Woody, go back and take your time and read his post.....
then be very quiet. The combine was in February, their pro
day was in April. Most people with any common sense
would think the faster time at the pro day would be a bit
more valid since his thumb wouldn't be affecting him as much,
and he could adjust his stance, etc, in the 40..
He had a broken thumb bothering him in Feb.
April comes well after February. Take your time, and try to think about it.

Agree...
You have to be "fast enough" straight line, but agility (as measured by the "boogie", AKA 3-cone, drill and to a lesser extent the 20-yd shuttle) and vertical go a long way in separating WR wheat from chaff.

My point was I haven't heard where Gordon ran a 4.67 40, which for a WR is slow.

Thats because he didnt.....
He ran 4.53, which is 0.01 slower than the 4.52 that Mayle ran.....

Well, that's that, Puffy's too slow to play in the NFL. Now if his Boogie Around The Cones time was fast, then maybe, just maybe he could still play.
Much like the BAtC World Champions: Veikune, Wimbley, Mingo, ..........................

-
I don't have a problem with Mayle just been watching a lot of hoops and baseball and forgot about the "he's our guy rule". Now if we had a WR with Mayle's size and Hawkins speed we'd have someone to get excited about.
And to be fair Mayle's pro day times were 4.65, 4.52 & 4.56
