POFO

I heard people talking about Rick Spielman.
He sounds like he's qualified for the job. He's been either a scout or in player personnel or GM since 1990
He obviously must have a short list of coaches he would want to be HC, and he knows all the front office people in the league. He could probably get the GM he wants also.
Plus he's in his early/mid 50's. Not an old guy like most of the guys you mentioned Gip.

Brother of Chris also.....from Massillon Oh. Browns going back to their roots? Paul Brown, born in Massillon.

Note on this: Go back to the 1980s Browns. We had:
Ernie Accorsi: POFO
GM: I believe we had Chip Falivene as GM (Director of Player Personell
HC: Marty Schottenheimer
QB: Bernie Kosar
See there.....all we need are 4 people in this organization to get it straight again. It can be done.

The 2 teams that seem to have the owner making a lot of the football decisions are Dallas and Washington. And they both have done nothing for many years.
As soon as Dan Snyder took over, the skins have been bad, even when they had Joe Gibbs come back.
And as soon as Jerry Jones couldn't stand Jimmy Johnson getting all the credit, the Cowboys have been bad. Even when Bill Parcells was there, the boys weren't very good.
SO having a Superbowl winning, Hall of Fame coach doesn't work when you have a meddling owner. IMO

Well, certainly a number of teams probably operate without a POFO.....the GM being considered to also be the POFO.
See these structures:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_current_National_Football_League_staffs
Sometimes the "President" is the business side guy......like Scheiner with the Browns.
Sometime the owner is the President, and they have a VP of Business, and a VP of Football Operations. OK.
Fine....if the Browns get a VPOFO....it doesn't matter what he is called.
And check this out from Ernie Accorsi's wiki page:
Consultant work[edit]On November 9, 2012, Accorsi was hired by the Carolina Panthers as a consultant after general manager Marty Hurney was fired.[11]
On December 29, 2014, it was announced that Accorsi has been hired by the Chicago Bears as a consultant for their general manager search after Phil Emery was fired.[12]
On November 25, 2015, Accorsi was named a consultant for the Detroit Lions's search for a new General Manager.
When he is done with the Lions, the Browns should consider bringing him in here to consult. That is the least they should do. (note: Lions went on 3 game winning streak....broken only by the Motor City Miracle.....Rodgers to Rodgers 65 yd Hail Mary)

The Browns need someone that the GM and coach report to, and it can't be Jimmy

No shit Sherlock. You DO sound like a Trump supporter with that simplistic answer.

So as long as it's a somewhat insulated layer. And the only name that has real experience and wants to get back in the game... Mike Shanahan.... And I am not advocating that...just the only real experienced name I can think of

As long as he does not bring Kyle along again, Mike may not be that bad.
Do you see what is happening to Matt Ryan with OC Kyle? He has turned into a complete mess.

Farmer traded up to get Gilbert Manziel and Terence West. Then last year he drafted Vincent Mayle.
In the meantime West and Mayle are gone, Gilbert sucks because either he can't play or they don't want him to play cornerback. We have an issue with evaluating talent and drafting. Farmer just sucks.
There are rookie running backs playing right now who are actually good! Example: Jeremy Langford, Karlos Williams, Javoris Allen and David Johnson. We got Duke Johnson.
There are wide receivers playing from the 2014 and 15 drafts we could have had. Example: Jarvis Landry, Allen Robinson, Allen Hurns, Evans, Beckham, and many many more.
Farmer passed on a plethora of talent from Kahlil Mack to Derek Carr and everyone in between. But he's a genius for finding free agents and late round talent?
The basics for a successful offense are QB, WR, RB, TE and Farmer can't seem to get that thru his head.
He has no eye for talent when you consider what we have and what he passed on.
PS Shaun Draugn another player they cut is helping all my fantasy teams go to the playoffs.

I've seen about 30 examples of that. It doesn't look like wedding bells either. The old man does know the league pretty good.As long as he does not bring Kyle along again, Mike may not be that bad.

I heard a radio sports talking head doing a comparison between the Browns and Bengals. I haven't done any fact checking, but the gist of the argument is the Bengals are better because they have continuity and fewer layers of management.
They basically have Mike Brown who is l think owner and gm, and Marvin Lewis. Granted, Bengals fans have done their fair share of bitching about Mike Brown when things weren't going so well. But they're going well now, so...
-
The bungles don't have a GM in the traditional role
Mike Brown is president
Senior vice president of player personnel... Pete Brown
vice president of player personnel... Paul Brown
executive vice president...Katie Blackburn
director of player personnel... Duke Tobin
They have 5 people listed as front office.
The Browns have 8 people listed as front office. And one of them is Jim Brown

Tony Grossi said it on the radio yesterday: this GM and this coach obsess about the #52 and #53 guys on the roster far more than they concern themselves with the Top Ten players on the roster.
They made Don Jones active because they wanted to be sure that their special teams coverage teams were right......but had Dwayne Bowe and Terrelle Pryor inactive instead.
A guy that might be the #11 man on the punt coverage team was more important to them than two WRs that MIGHT make some big plays. (sure....might.....because yes, its possible they could suck at what they do and not make the plays you want......but you will never find out about them having them sit on the bench.)
