  • Dansby said, "A lot of teams are looking for linebackers right now. One of the best guys to ever play the game is on the market. That's the numbers saying it. Not me saying it, it's just the numbers."

Well the Browns should be commended for employing a special needs adult.

  • holy shit did he just call himself one of the best ever to play the position? Mother of god now i'm really glad this dude is out the door. I know he had a few pretty decent years but nothing that I would thought compared with Kuechly's last two or so years, and he's not the best ever. Ray Lewis is the best ever. Kuechly may one day equal him, but that's gonna take some years of consistency out of him.

Holy fuck. Yeah take him, anybody. Wanna see what 35 year old LB'er that can't read the run looks like?

    The mystery continues

No mystery- it's a full nuclear detonation of the roster.

Thing is- if it's a total rebuild, it shouldn't take 5 years to get it done.

Will the fans stand for 0-16, because it looks like that's where we're headed. I'm calling it our slogan for this year. 0-16 for 2016.

LOL... you still don't get it, h???

We are in full, don't give a fuck about the short-term mode...

Dick Butkus was the best ever,, I know.. I've seen both play... two different eras of ball.. its not even a foot race to Me.. Dick Butkus was a fucking machine and in our backfield every time Phipps hiked the ball.. Ray Ray was great.. but no dick butkus..They didnt record sacks back then...Im sure Butkuses numbers would be every bit as good if not more than rays.. it was a lot harder to play back in those days..

Well if you actually look at the substance of what he said, you'd see he's right. TCPO mentioned it too. Go compare Dansby's numbers to some of the greats. IIRC, Mud posted a comparison of Dansby's stats with Ray Lewis' and they were comparable.

  • Miles Jack looks like he's going to be a top ten pick, maybe top five pick.

But "My guess is some folks still haven't accepted/realized that we are in full rebuild mode.

Public Service Announcement: Don't be surprised if Joe Thomas gets traded." OS

    *****************************

I would be shocked out of my chair. It is too tough to find a solid LT in the NFL. Look at

where Tunsil may go = #1 overall. JT is the glue that holds the locker room and the oline

together. It's far easier to find a RT and a C. JT wants to stay here.

You would just doom the Browns to have to spend a future higher draft pick to replace him,

or pay dearly for a FA that everybody else wants, and the current team won't give up

    without matching.

The only way it would happen, is if Joe Thomas gives up on the Browns and wants a trade, and in

that case, I would probably only listen to the games and keep busy out in the garden on Sundays,

because our qb will get injured pretty quickly, and Wentz will be too, and it will be a disaster not

good for watching in my camo recliner with a cold root beer and a couple of grilled burgers.

Say it ain't so, Joe !

So we're finally good in, say, 2019 (being optimistic here). JT is 35 years old. He retires. We now have a massive hole at LT and we spent $40+ million dollars from now until then to keep him around instead of letting a rookie learn the positions along with the rest of the very young roster for $10 million. There's no way you can justify keeping Joe Thomas around.

Yep....by the numbers, he's right there with the best of em.....I just so happen to have them handy too.... πŸ˜‰

    Yearly averages......Tkls.......Sacks......FF........FR........Ints........TFL.......TDs

    Dansby 101........3.4.........1.5........1.0.......1.5..........13..........6

    Keuchly. 147.......1.7..........1.0.......1.0........4.0..........9...........1

Karlos must have had the amazing ability of making his great play look incredibly pedestrian.

I think Dansby was a victim of those around him... On the field , that is...

  • There are offensive players that would kill to average 6 TDs per year.... πŸ˜‰

Well he's certainly not an elite run stuffer. But he had a lot of picks.

Mud, I think you forgot to divide Dansby's total touchdowns by his years played. Unless he's actually averaging 6 per year, which would be absurd.

Keeping JT around could be justified in that he could act as a mentor to all of these young guys to show them how a true pro goes about his business which, in the FO's view, could be more valuable than what we could realistically get in return.

Just because we're now using analytics doesn't mean we have completely forgone what could be considered more "traditional" team building concepts, such as, in this case, retaining mentors such as McCown and JT.

Take a peek at London Fletcher's numbers compared to Stabbin' Ray.

Fletcher won't sniff the HOF because he wasn't a showboater.

  • You guys are right....The Td's listed for all of them are career totals.....not yrly avg....my bad.....

He did tie for 4th on the Browns last year, with 2 td's......and I hear a lot about how Benjiman "led the team" in 2014 with 3.....HA!

Ha!....agreed....I think Lewis's legend was definitely inflated because of his antics and the quality of the D he played on...though he was a motivator on some wicked good defenses, which I guess cant really be measured....

  • Sad Day, but still will bleed orange & brown after this blood transfusion. Good Luck Dansby, your goal line smack down @ Jets is on my Brownies video on demand. Edit--Dansby is 32? how old was Lewis at his slow down last year? Dansby would have been a FA 2018, I agree with him at the point Shasi should have put these guys out before now, but we have to see our future moves first & hell they got a vision I don't see yet..

Just looked and you're right...Fletcher has better #'s than Lewis across the board....beats hin in every single category except interceptions, which he is only 1/2 int per year less.....

Karlos Dansby will be 35 in early November. IMO, he's one of those guys who has value as a free agent for a team with championship potential that just needs that one last piece.

I wish him well as he represented the Browns well on & off the field, but it seems we are moving toward a young team that will learn & grow together into a cohesive, winning unit. I'm excited about this new, different direction. We'll see.

Dansby has always been an upper-echelon LBer, in my eyes.

Oh, I agree. I understand the move and I am glad it happened. He deserves a chance to latch on with a contender. He's put in his dues and, for the most part, has been unrecognized for them.

It would have been nice to have an experienced vet home down the fort on the interior, but not for what he costs. This works out for both parties.

$12 million for mentoring? Let's just go hire some shrinks. And again, you also have to consider the opportunity cost. Because keeping JT is preventing some other kid from playing for us and learning the position.
