We need an experienced backup QB
-
Do you really think that the Browns are going to go with Josh McCown, and 2 raw rookies at QB?
(your answer may be: why not....they are doing that at a number of other spots).
But....let's assume that is not what they wish to do. Who is out there in the way of veteran backups.
Here are the names I find:
Tavaris Jackson. Had some decent time in Seattle. He is 33.
Josh Freeman. Former 1st rounder for Bucs. Not that old. He is still only 28. Played with Indy last year.
Matt Flynn. Backup in Green Bay....was to be starter for Seattle til Wilson took over. He is only 31.
Chad Henne. Only age 31, but has not played since 2014.
Josh Johnson...still listed as an NFL FA...but not played since 2013. Sounds retired
Ryan Lindley... also played with Indy last year. Only 27. But he is about as bad a QB as I have seen.
Charlie Whitehurs....also played with Indy last year...that is 3 of these guys. But he is 34.
TJ Yates. Backup in Houston last year. Age 29
Michael Vick. The old one of the bunch....at age 36...but did start 3 games for the Steelers last year.
Is he the sort of insurance policy you would want to bring in, given his background? Can we ignore his past....or his age?
At Freeman's young age, he seems a possible best fit as far as the analytics go. But he is just so bad as to be not worth a back up slot.
Anybody else out there that floats your boat?

Yes! Terrell Pryor knows the offense. You need McCown now; if Josh goes down here comes Hogan not Kessler. It ends up Hogan who was Stanford's most winning QB. But having Pryor on the team is an option. Remember when Chudinsky was willing to start Josh Cribbs?

No, not Pryor. And not Hogan (though he may end up better than Kessler).
Can someone give me a legitimate answer, and not all this fufarol.

I don't see the need to bring in a backup unless McCown gets hurt.
These guys will still be out there then.

Pryor is going to be a very good WR. we need to not fuck that up.

I read an article a few weeks ago stating that Hue Was dying to pursue McCarron. I know that for him or a couple other top tier guys the ask will be high but we have a LOT of picks. Honestly if I thought McCown could stay healthy if like our chances this season especially with Josh coming back. Protesting his numbers from last year would give him over 4000 yards passing and 24 td's if my memory is close.

Yes... and my answer is based upon only one thing: WTF would they be trying to save by trading for a back-up QB?
McC will hopefully settle things down for a couple weeks and regain us a measure of respect. Then it's audition time... just a little earlier than it might have been.
Now what would not surprise me is signing another "prospect" to the PS after Hogan is activated. And if either Kessler or Hogan flunks out, then signing one off of another PS to our 53 becomes an option as well.

I don't trust Kessler and I don't trust you for believing that.
It's a JOKE... JHC

Except for the fact that you will need your backup in getting his work in the system. I am going to say that Hogan stays on the Taxi Squad. Anyone that saw Kessler play knows he is not ready. If MC goes down now, then only Kessler will be an active QB on the roster...then you would have to have Pryor be the backup.....which I don't think the Browns, you or I want.
These guys may be out there....but they won't be able to be signed and ready to play in the second half of a game that McC gets injured in.

I am not saying they should trade...but bring one in. And what will they save? The limited confidence that this team may have in its on field general. Kessler cannot project that confidence. Going with two rookies at QB would be assinine from a team morale perspective...and yes, I still think we need to consider that.

And if he gets hurt...which he is likely to do then what.....see above. Auditioning is great. Having a meager chance to win is better. We don't have that now with Kessler/Hogan.

No, I predict, and expect Hogan to stay where he is. So we need to look elsewhere.

Give Bellycheck any pick for the rights to Jimmy G as in Garoppolo & end the QB lottery in Cleveland. (like we know what to do with the pick anyhow) His job ends in Cleveland week 5 on Brady's Return & Brady will play till he's 50. Jimmy G. contract is 820K in 2017 when he will break the bank anyway. Yea, you knew this one was coming...Bark Away!!

McCown with McCoy as the backup...then once McCoy gets hurt, we go with Hulk Hogan until he gets hurt and then we bring in one of those rejects to play. My bet is its one of those rejects we are watching in 8 weeks when the gang makes its annual pilgrimage to Cleveland.
Good thing we didn't commit to paying a shitton of money for our tickets right??
Hi Zombo...

Stick with McCown! Not because they have any hopes to make the playoffs but because it will give Coleman & the offense experience for next year. As for McCarron, I wanted him last year; now not so much. McCown, Hogan & Kessler this year and draft a QB next year.
Can we start a thread in a few weeks to see who's the best option coming out of college?
-
Cant say we didnt see this coming.....cough cough...
Why sign anybody??!!....let the young guys play.....winning aint the goal, player development is.....
Go with McCown, Kessler and Hogan and just call it a season.....
