Why would we waste time and money on getting a one-year deal backup QB?

Because we want to win now! Herpity derp!

Its not winning. It is letting the rest of the young players develop. Having a veteran will help the likes of Drango/Coleman/Pryor/the other Coleman/Higgins/Duke/Crowell/Payton/Higgins etc. etc. have a chance at developing their skill and craft.

Putting Kessler in there will NOT allow these guys to develop. You must give them some ability to gain confidence. Kessler's inexperience and failure will be considered the failure of all these young players.

    Give them a chance.

Also, it could help to give the kids on defense a chance as well.

Having a veteran, somewhat capable QB will help all the young players develop....and that, obviously, is the prime directive for this team.

NFL Network described the Browns FO as having an 18 at the blackjack tables and tries to get a 3 dealt for 21. Just plain stupid for leaving a franchise QB on the table for unknowns later.

And they mentioned Wentz going 8 for 8 when blitzed.

    Using a Euchre deck?

Had to look that one up-a deck that has no 3's (and other small cards). Good one!! 😆

  • Not DA, but would seriously consider BQ to comeback and fill his rightful spot as starting QB......

It has aces though so you need to draw 3 of em for 21

  • Mike Vick - Rumor that Browns are interested. I'll take Derek Anderson however.

    Please say it ain't so.

To spur on other discussion. I spent two years in North Carolina (just moved back to OH this past spring) and the fans of the Panthers loved Derek Anderson. Flame me all you want, but I would take Derek Anderson over any of the "floating" options out there right now. He's experienced and has an arm that could stretch the field and keep up with our receivers.

People are going batshit crazy around here. Michael Vick is not going to be signed by the Browns. Second...The Carolina Panthers, who have plans on heading to the Super Bowl, are not trading their backup quarterback to the Browns. No chance in hell they or any other good team would trade their backup quarterback.

  • Vick could happen. NOt necessarily my first option, but it could happen. A younger veteran would be preferable. I did a whole thread on this.

DA would not happen because he is the Panthers backup QB. That would be as silly as the Browns having traded McCown.

I would say even sillier because the Panthers are actually good and have a chance to go to the Super Bowl and win. The Browns were never going to be that good this year so if we could've gotten something of value for McCown, I still would've traded him even though that would mean at this point throwing Kessler at the Ravens in week 2. Since there's pretty good odds we are going to see Kessler before long anyways.

    Vick is not happening.

Why would our analytics guys bring him off the couch? Why?

IF we are going to need a veteran QB down the line it is not going to be someone whose career is done. It will be someone with a still a flicker of hope.

It could happen because Hue may want it despite the analytics of it. (but otherwise I agree....get someone with a flicker of hope....not the 3rd or 4th oldest player in the league.

Why would Hue want him? They have no connection.

Hue is a teacher. He wants something to work with.

  • So, Vick could be signed......perhaps a fat chance, but if he were, that would give the Browns 2 of the oldest players in the league, along with all those young players. Oldest non-kickers in the NFL (Vinatieri, Dawson in their 40s):

    Tom Brady 39

    Terence Newman DB 38

    Jerome Harrison 38

    Drew Brees 37

    Steve Smith 37

    Josh McCown 37

    Dwight Freeney 36

    Tony Romo 36

    Julius Peppers 36

    Carson Palmer 36

    Antonio Gates 36

    Michael Vick 36

See the WSS theory. Again, I am basically in agreement with you.....but where there is smoke there may be fire.

Why would we have both Vick and McCown on the team at the same time?

Why would we have Vick under any scenario?

  • I think the QBs we have now are the ones we're going with. McCown, Kessler and then either RG3's glorious return or we see what Hogan can do.

    Absolutely.

If McCown can't make it until RG3 comes back then another young vet will be brought in. I'm sure they have their eye on a couple.

No, its the same argument. Just a refinement. This is essentially what I mean by "Morale"....putting the young guys in a position to have some success, to attain some confidence so they can develop positively.

Why do you think there could be a logical answer to your question? Again, I agree with your points, but I am not going absolute zero on the chance of it happening.

We would have Vick because Hue and the FO would want to have Vick. (not saying they do, just giving you the only answer that I can)

  • Note....this thread could just as easily have been: Browns could trade for Kaepernick. Browns could trade for Geno Smith. Browns could trade for Mike Glennon.

All of these things were speculated in the article in the OP. Its just that Vick is the one guy that is a street free agent. (not the one guy....just the one mentioned in the article) The others would cost draft picks.....precious commodities to the boys from Hahvahd Yahd.

  • why sign another qb when the season is lost anyways? crap talent at most positions. FO that has dumped everything (some good, some bad).

i say let all these guys take their lumps. fuck 'em. that's what we're paying this disgraceful shit-show for. then the QBs can go in the FO at the end of the season and beat the shit out of sushi and deport with their walkers and canes.
