Kenny Britt signing with the Browns

Funny how I keep hearing people imply that Pryor is loved because he went to OSU....
which, to me, just shows how ignorant folks can be....
As an OSU fan, I and many many others actually HATED Pryor and wished he'd go away....and when the Browns first signed him, I(we) stepped up to tell folks what an entitled prick Pryor was....(and still is, apparently)....
So Id say....with Pryor.....the homer accusations are way off base......
Couldn't agree more. The other side is when Braylon Edwards asserted that the fans didn't like him because he went to Michigan....
No, Braylon, the fans didn't like you because what you brought to the team wasnt worth what the Browns invested in you, not even close.
Had Braylon averaged 12 TDs a year for a decade, there would be Edwards jerseys everyfuckingwhere.

Both of these are true. Braylon and Winslow II took the wrath of the Cleveland faithful back when fans still believed the organization could be successful. Both played with lackluster QBs. Here's the comparison for both player's first full year with the Browns
Edwards 61 Rec 125 Att 884 yards 16.1 ypc 6 TDs
Pryor 77 Rec 140 Att 1007 yards 13.1 ypc 4 TDs
Edwards was hearing the boo birds a year and a half removed from actually being a top 5 WR and people are disappointed Pryor isn't getting $40 million.

Who's kidding who here? Recruiting the best FA WR available is a piece of cake. We have a 1-15 football team without a starting QB after 3 or 4 different QBs couldn't survive starts (sometimes more than once for those that didn't land on IR like Whitehurst). Our defense ranked with anchors (especially in points allowed) setting up a very reasonable margin of error for all our victims behind Center. We have a 32 year old TE that runs at the speed of park, after our most talented WR was told he was finally cleared to play football again - he didn't play football again for another full season. What could possibly go wrong here on NFL Easy Street? Line up to sign up WRs. All that considering, we could have done worse than Kenny Britt like Dwayne Bowe...
At least we have Crow attracting some respectable FAs on the Offensive Line while we're also getting Bitonio back healthy.
Whos' kidding who where?!....... your point is exactly what...???

I was having a little fun in pointing out what FA WR looks at a team that finished 1-15 with 4 of of 4 possible different starting QBs that couldn't survive starts along the way and says I need to prioritize me some of that.
I'm not mad at you for seeing that Pryor and Britt weren't that different believe it or not. Having said that, I still don't understand the Rosenhaus rationale that the only team willing to give his client a job when none of the other 31 teams were the least bit interested in giving his client a chance to play WR. Is he now making way more than the 8 million $ the only NFL team that said we believe in you offered him? Considering only 1 other team wanted him - I'm okay with knowing former 1st round pick is coming off his best season in receptions and yardage while he had more TD receptions than Pryor despite starting 1 less game.
Like the kids say today, we ite....

No denying that Edwards and Anderson combined to produce one magical season... but every time I picture Baylon in my mind he's dropping a pass.
Have I mentioned more than ten times that I wanted to trade them both after that magical season?

But no one can deny that the last time this team was any good was 2007. I don't think it's a coincidence that the year Anderson had a very good year, Winslow was good and Edwards & Lewis were great.
Some solid receivers drop balls, currently Kelvin Benjamin & Demarius Thomas come to mind but that doesn't mean they can't be very effective.

Yes. Is it because he is OSU alum? For me fuck no

He is an entitled prick, and that's why i'm glad we didn't give him a monstrous contract. He definitely has sick athleticism, but does he have the work ethic to be an all-pro WR? I think he'll have a sub-par season in washington next year. You saw what washington did to desean jackson, so pryor could have problems too, plus hes NOT a #1, hes a #2
-
He's very inconsistent, which could also be because he's only played the position for a couple of years. I would have been happy to keep him as a high upside potential kind of guy but that's not really who you give $13m contracts to.
-
Here's the thing: His contract is not that bad. In essence, it's one year with 10.5 guaranteed in the first year and then it's year to year with minimal cap hit. His contract calls for a 6.5m base on the third day of 2018, but if they cut him, it's only a 4.875m in dead space and then in 19 and '20 his base salary is not guaranteed. in case you are wondering, he is the 20th highest paid receiver thus he is being paid like a low end 1. So essentially if he is good this year, then they are getting a number one WR for cheap and if he is bad, it's easy to cut bait. This is what I think is what makes this browns management group special. They have a great way of writing these contracts so it does not kill them in the future.

It's basically the same we paid Dwayne Bowe......except 1m more......for a guy that is just as old, with as many seasons, but much less production.....
So, lets hope he is better, eh?....(good news is that it wont take much for him to be better)......
Personally, Im no fan of signing guys coming off "career" years.....9 years in and only one season over 1000.....so lets hope he lives up to last years numbers....(they rarely do).....

But if he doesn't because he settles into a solid #2 role as Coleman emerges.... I'm good with that.
If it's because JG returns to wreck this league and Coleman emerges, then I'm even more at ease with even Britt being a solid #3...

You know....I dont hate the deal......just dont think it's a "good" one either.....10 mil guaranteed for a #2 or 3 aint any kind of bargain.....

A favorable take on landing Britt...
The Underrated Signings of the NFL’s March Madness
Kenan Goyette @TheKenanGoyette — Fan of all things NFL. Carolina Panthers Writer for last two years
Kenny Britt WR — Cleveland Browns (4 yrs/$32.5 million)The rebuild is on in Cleveland. In the past two seasons we’ve seen their strategy and, to this point, it looks rather promising. Signing key building blocks and role players along with collecting draft capital is the name of the game. With their current roster, signing a veteran wideout like Britt looks like a solid move.
The Browns need as many play makers as they could get and, even though they let Terrelle Pryor walk, Britt might actually be a better option. He’s only 28 and has the size, speed and skill set to be a dynamic weapon. He also fits the same receiver spot that Pryor occupied and does so with much more experience. Britt isn’t an elite wide receiver but he still has plenty of strong years ahead of him. If his time with the Rams showed anything, it was that he has the stuff to live up to his potential, especially under Hue Jackson. -

We also have to bear in mind the Jeff Fisher penalty - any offensive player eventually gets beaten down by Jeff. Look at Todd Gurley, or Jared Goff for example. Or Tavon Austin.

I guess Pryor just had a career year as well...
Maybe....but you need a career to have a career year.......
Britt has 8 years of 600 yds per year......then one of a 1000.......THAT is what I consider a career year.....
I dont subscribe to the Fisher theory either.....he was below average to worse under Munchack ......didnt even earn a starters role till years 4-5......
We had the same guys with Hartline and Austin......except they were much cheaper......
Sashi threw that $$$ at Britt just to show Pryor......my theory.....

Anybody else find it odd that the Browns are still going after FA receivers, when they drafted like a dozen last year?
-
I already said this is another d Bowe. or Stallworth.

Not anyone that wants to add experience to a position that sometimes needs to have 3 or 4 WRs in a given formation.
This isn't the only franchise that will sign a veteran FA WR 1 year after it drafted more than 1. What's the average percentage of draft picks that pan out or stay injury free in the NFL?
NE drafted 2 WRs (Malcolm Mitchell and Devin Lucien) in 2015 but they brought in a veteran like Chris Hogan from Buffalo in 2016 right? In fact, they've always added veteran WRs like Danny Amendola, Randy Moss and Wes Welker from other teams despite continuing to draft WRs.
