Big Deal...or Not?

The Browns Board

  • No big deal.

  • Let him go, fill the spot through the draft.

Loaded draft even with RBs, a possible way to go for a fresh horse. Too bad they will "use" a first round pick on a QB or they could get Barkley. ...still might you never know.

Agree, make him token offer. He won't take it anyway. Plenty of RBs in this draft to replace him.

    From NFL.com,  ranking free agents:

    #71

    Isaiah Crowell
Crowell can be the lead back in a committee attack, but he's nobody's idea of a dynamic playmaker.

  • Crowell is a decent starting RB, but replaceable.

I'd rather try and extend Duke now before he becomes a free agent after next season, and draft a RB or two to replace Crowell.

  • Per Yahoo....the Browns are likely to lose all 3 of their FAs this offseason:

The Cleveland Browns have only three unrestricted free agents - running back Isaiah Crowell, guard Marcus Martin and defensive end Lavar Edwards - and will not use the franchise tag or transition tag. The Browns are unlikely to re-sign any of them, either, unless they can get any or all of them dirt cheap. The perception around Cleveland is Crowell wants out because he was dissatisfied with the number of carries he got. The fact is he carried eight more times in 2017 than in 2016 when he carried 198 times for 852 yards. He carried the ball 206 times in 2017 yet finished with 99 fewer yards than the year before. Crowell will follow the money and sign with whichever team offers him the most.

    So...Crow....and 2 little use backups.

Crowell, of course, to me, is the only one that matters. The other two have already been replaced or are eminently replaceable.   Crow on the other hand was the Browns workhorse RB...and something significant would have to be done to replace him.

    What are the Browns options?

    A. Hand the hammer duties over the Duke?  Ah...NO.   Duke is more valuable where he is and what he does.

    B. Hand the hammer duties over to Matthew Dayes?   Who knows if this could work?  Is he that kind of guy...and if he is, can he handle it?

    C.  Get a FA?  Who is out there as a FA that could do what Crow does?

    D. Draft a guy?   But who....and when.  We know what one guy here wants...whose lasciviousness is disgusting.....that guy who we all know and who shall remain nameless is one draft option.  But I suspect there are many others. After all...what do they say about RBs?  You can get a good one in the mid rounds.

    A) No, Agree  B)NO! (Dayes is Duke's back-up with same game. Not a run between T's power back.Dayes has never been the banger at NC State. It's the Same NC State that will have Samuels as the Banger vs Nyheim Hines as a Duke talent in this draft. C) Carlos Hyde with a proven physical. Frank Gore maybe out with Colts/taking Barkley? more RB's will get cut.Jets Chris Ivory just got cut Saturday. D)After Barkley, Trust Dorsey, he's proven to find them. In a much deeper RB class than last draft. Am a see-saw teetering with Crow. Is Crow equal to Mark Ingram with Saints paying market value of 5M/year? Ya can't change the market Price. It's the price for now. Ya can change the Player. Crow wants the Bellcow Contract. No better place than here, but we gave him the keys solo with no back-up on roster last season & he proved nothing with his carries but to blame play calling. I'd love to start stacking building Blocks on top of one another with drafting a Banger behind Crow. And I could see T.Haley agreeing with me maybe? But that choice is on Dorsey & the deal maybe still alive.

  • Crow is decent, but not a bell cow.  We can replace him.

With who? Terrance McGee again? hell he even got picked from OUR PS 😛Crow leaves ya need 1 Plus a rookie..

  • Tons of RB talent in this draft. Find one or possibly two. Keep Duke as the change of pace/third down back.

  • Barkley will likely be gone by the time they pick a RB, but Michel, Guice and Penny will be there.

I'm pulling for Penny or Michel.

  • Michel or Guice. Have not really watched Penny. Think we have to trade up into the low end of the 1st to get either of those two though. Barkley #1 overall is a mistake.

Give Penny’s games against Stanford and ASU a glance over. The kid stepped up against the better competition.

I would be happy with one of Michel/Guice/Penny with another back taken later. Duke is good at what he does but not at having to be a RB1 if the starter goes down. Scarborough, Freeman, and Ballage will be available later on.

  • This draft is stocked with talented backs, we have three 2nd round picks, and John Dorsey found the leading rusher in the league (as a rookie) in like the 3rd round last year. I trust him in finding us a back, and I also trust him to extend Duke. Let Crow fly away.

Well......rather than Monte Python...this is more of a Beetlejuice situation.  Or Voldemort.  You say his name and either the Ghoolie lookalike PoG/Beetlejuice shows up......or a bunch of Deatheaters do.    So, best not to say his name...unless you want to wade through PoGs drool.

Or, maybe that is what you want:  like You....PoG, and Cal all digging it together based on a mutual admiration society

Well they passed on HOFer Ladanian Tomlinson- (zero Super Bowls BTW) and I was over it long ago.

Well....they MIGHT take him at #4.

And, no....I don't think it would haunt them....any more than having passed on like Bosa/Elliot/Wentz etc.

It would only haunt them if they passed on him...and he went to one of their AFCN rivals.    And considering that the Bengals draft #12...and Barkley is by no means likely to last that long.....it will not haunt them.

As, I am of the opinion that if they do pass on him...they will likely get a RB likely in round 2.  And from all reports....there is actually little difference in talent between Barkley and the guys that are ranked behind him.

In other words....one of them could turn out to be just as good or better.

The whole problem is the quarterback situation (with NO FA signing) if they take a QB at #1 they might miss LT2 or the next Payton or what ever they're calling the Penn State phenomenon now, will he make it to #4? If they pick LT2 at #1 will the QB of choice be there at #4?

Is Barkley really worth a #1 pick, probably not, #4 maybe but RB might be a real need position in Cleveland......sooner than later. -BUT- there are other stud  picks out there NOT QB or Barkley.....just see every other post I've put up over the last month plus.

So what to do? D'UH trade up and get everything!  EUREKA! THE ANSWER HAS COME TO THE FAITHFUL!!  Oh too strong? 😆

Ghoolie even suggested it. If the G-men were amenable to a trade, here's what it would (realistically) cost. We move from #4 up to #2. New York gets our #35, and a future second. Deal? Anything more than that, I'd pass.

check the bears from #3 to #2 with 9'ers last draft..we'd be reaching deeper than those 2 picks..pass on moving up from #4 but from #33 or #35 could make sense jumping back into 1st round.(if they target a player)
