Jonathan Paul Manziel
-
Personally, I could care less what Manziel does with his time off. This is just one more example of our lifeless coach looking like he doesn't have a clue what to do and is waiting for public opinion to make the decision for him. I want Pettine and Farmer gone before the season ends.
-
Sadly I think this spells the end for Pettine and maybe Farmer. Ironically, not Manziel though.

This is just so exhausting....
....exactly how I feel.....

-
Pettine is suffering from confirmation bias. He is looking for a reason to keep Manziel on the bench.. IMO.

Johnny needed to stay in Cleveland and focus on his game during the bye.
Ya, everybody is allowed to drink, and travel, and see old friends. And all the young unmarried players are going to do it.
But this guy was just handed the keys to the franchise. The season is over in two months. Just fucking commit yourself to the Cleveland Browns for two months, then you go party your ass off with your buds.
He couldn't do it.

I'm confused. So he is allowed, but he's not allowed?

Sure as shit he's allowed. But he looks like an ass when he was just in rehab for drinking.

Yeah, I'm sorry but fuck Pettine for this and fuck the idea of trying to police him. Mike, you're not Manziel's father. He's a grown ass man who can make decisions, and as long as those decisions don't directly detriment the team it doesn't fucking matter. Why don't you say you're dissapointed in how your shitty ass fucking defense whom you select arbitrarily based on who you like and who you don't? Seriously, I am over this clown man he's just an absolute joke.
Manziel was out in the club but he was also volunteering with the community. He's playing well on the field but under this regime that doesn't matter as long as you rub Mikey boy the right way.
Sure as shit he's allowed. But he looks like an ass when he was just in rehab for drinking.
Again, find a source that directly says he was in rehab for drinking cause it was never reported that was why he went officially.

This particular player, that was just handed the keys to the franchise and had vowed "No more distractions" should have wanted to stay here and be the best Browns QB he can be.
There is a higher standard for starting Quarterbacks, and there is a different standard for someone who has been a distraction in the past and has vowed a new commitment.
He's "allowed" as an adult. He's idiotic as Johnny Manziel, freshly minted starting QB for starved franchise, to not hold himself to a higher standard until the end of the season. Or at least the end of the week.
When you have a dream job (NFL starting QB ... 1 of 32 in the world) and you have to toe the line for little bit longer, and sacrifice some fun for some commitment ... you just do it.
Prove yourself as a player, prove you are committed to the franchise .. and then go party.

A lot of over reaction here... not that that is anything new. Personally I can give it 24 hours before I consider freaking out as an option.
Here is the presser for those who have not seen it.
The problem Pet continues to have is after fending off multiple questions successfully as "internal matters", he suddenly deems a JM question worthy of a thoughtful answer.
Once Pet moved the presser onto other topics, his "energy" improves dramatically. Easy to understand why...

Ha! Really? And OJ was innocent.
-
This is just so exhausting, I can't imagine how Pettine feels.
And that is likely the why behind deeming a question answer worthy
-
Manziel can't keep his shit together. Just don't go to clubs. It isn't that difficult.
-
LOL... well... he was posing for someone.
Doesn't appear to be trashed so no biggie.
Aside... at least his 'stache is really coming along...
Hmmm, well the kid gets in his own way and I doubt this will ever change.
If he plays, I hope he does well and the Browns win. Then trade him in the off season to Dallas or somewhere. This Browns team doesn't need the distractions he brings, neither did the Browns team of last year.
-
I'm with you Mudfly. I have never LIKED JM but I was trying to root for the progression he was showing. (and I don't believe the coaching staff has gotten enough credit for bringing that dumpster fire up to speed in just under a year). But this is just exhausting. IMO I start the little Phucker. If he struggles the least bit hes done. All this just a week after someone told him all the right things to say on the radio and TV. Hell McCown was even embrassing the idea of moving forward with the position and excepting his new role of backup/Mentor. And IMO Manziel has ALLLLOOOOOTTTTTTT to learn from "career backup" Josh McCown.
IMO Josh McCown has talked the talk and walked the walk when it comes to being a professional QB and laying it all on the line for his teammates, his bosses, his fanbase, and himself. All that I have seen from John is a stubborn kid that might have left college a little too early. McCown has outworked, outplayed, and simple outclassed this Moron. So I completely agree with Pettine with what ever he decides. Cause truth be told having McCown in the game gives the browns a better chance to win and probably always will.

Hold the presses!
Cleveland Browns coach Mike Pettine said Tuesday that he's considering benching Manziel for the game against the Baltimore Ravens. This comes exactly a week after Pettine said that Manziel would be the starter for the rest of the season.
"To whom much is given much is expected," Pettine said ominously.
Pettine repeatedly said that he will address the topic more fully on Wednesday once he gets more "details" on the video. But it's clear he wanted to send a message Tuesday to Manziel and possibly others in the organization.
"When it's a repeated pattern of behavior, it's a concern," Pettine said of the video.

What concerns me is Manziel promised to keep a low profile during the bye week. From the reports, that wasn't the case.
Sadly I think this spells the end for Pettine and maybe Farmer. Ironically, not Manziel though.
Pettine is done, as of Black Monday.

Manziel should have known- if he went out- he was paparazzi fodder. That's on him. Did Pettine specifically tell him "don't go party"?
One thing is for sure- the general public may never know why Manziel went to rehab- but you can bet the ranch the Browns for damn certain do.

Watched the video Tour- looks like Mike is going to start crying at any time..... the wife claims I can be oblivious, but Pettine's disappointment is plain as mud.

Let me ask this honestly of you and others. What harm does a picture or small video of Manziel in a club doing karaoke do to the Browns or this team? The Browns are quite literally the laughing stock of the NFL. I could not care the absolute fuck less what guys do in their free time save illegal activities if they actually provide quality play on the field. The thing hurting the Browns isn't some picture of a guy with a beer in this hand, it's decades of terrible football play.
Pettine is acting like his father when he's the coach. He could have easily said "We understand Manziel was in certain places but we don't regulate players during their free time. He's been here when he's expected to be here and has been improving on the field". Instead, he just acts like an upset dad who found weed in the sock drawer and is threatening to not take him to Disney World. Fuck that man, sorry but I'm tired of overreaction of seeing Manziel in public WAY more than the fact he's living his life.

When the kid basically lost a season of learning how to be a QB to substance abuse that resulted in rehab, you would expect Manziel not to be seen in bars by team leadership. It shows that the kid can't listen because I guarantee they have told him to keep a low profile.

I hate this. The sad part is that Johnny is ready to start, and it will be devastating to him if he doesn't... And yet, he couldn't seem to help himself.
Part of me wants to say this is no big deal. And for almost everyone, it would be no big deal. "22-year-old has fun with friends"... No big deal.
And yet, he said things would be different. - no distractions. And here we are again...distracted.
So where to go from here.... Start Johnny, see how he performs. If he does well, tell reporters you're not johnny's babysitter. If he's doing his job well, and not breaking the law, then let it go. He is allowed to have a life, and he can legally drink, even though he went to rehab.
Now, if he has broken some agreement made with the Browns, that changes things. Other than that, let him play. He has just started to show the potential he has, see where it leads.
