You're mocking the 1st round draft pick of your team. The future starting QB, before he even comes close to playing in a game.

Honestly, what kind of fan is this?

Shouldn't we all be Johnny Manziel fans? Why would a Browns fan ever be mocking Manziel?

    This is total insanity.

I think I've made it pretty clear I didn't particularity like Manziel befroe the draft, I didn't care for his off-season partying either. But really- you're right- it would be insane to root for yet another first round draft choice of the Browns to bust. That doesn't mean I have to go gushing over every great play he makes. I still don't like all the focus on the QB battle- there's plenty of other positions to be sorted out I happen to be interested in.

And you didn't answer Tour- you have the Browns at 8-8 at best with Hoyer, so what's your bold prediction if JF starts all 16 games?

    @walterwhite said:

I think it's quite obvious that Hoyer will be the starter.

Johnny is in no hurry, he only played 2 years in college and could sit for a year or two to get caught up.

Johnny is only 21 years old and still has a huge learning curve ahead of him.

The preseason is going to be crucial for Manziel because the starters in preseason play fairly soft.

It's the 2nd and 3rd team guys fighting for roster spots and starting time who bust their fucking asses and Manziel will see a lot of that.

I just think it will be good for JF to sit and watch for awhile. Our departed Shepster did have one interesting stat- there's a fairly high correlation between how many starts a quarterback had in college, and his ultimate success in the NFL. Doesn't always work- Colt McCoy started all 4 years. But only 2 out of the top 17 in yards last year weren't 4 year starters.

  • All hes doing is betting against Manziel, which isn't a stretch. Hoyer isnt the long term guy in any scenario and he knows that. So if he doesn't think Johnny will translate to the NFL then its an easy call to say Browns will need another QB soon.

For all the good words out of Camp about Hoyer, not much is about his actual play. They said he looked sharp on day 2, heard he looked bad today. Joe Thomas said he's like Tom Brady but then later commented that if it looked like the first team defense was destroying the first team offense so far in camp, its because they have been.

So how great could Hoyer have looked if the defense is destroying the offense so far.

Several reports would indicate that if you watched today's practice, you wouldn't think there's a NFL starter on the team.

dude, you are such a dick.

    shut the fuck up already.

Charley Casserly... says it's his "gut feel" that the Browns will use both 1st round picks this year and combine them to "grab our QB of the future".

Saw that as well. Charley is not shy.

    @txdawg said:

    i think it's possible-manziel/browns doesn't look like a fit.

but Charlie is an idiot trying to coattail the manziel name.

Not a fit? JM doesn't fit in Kyle Shanahan's O? Serious comment or the beginning of the excuse making?

And Charley is just doing what he is paid to do... comment on what he sees.

  • After four days in training camp I think people are jumping the gun some.

So he knows about Hoyer, but is only thinking (implied guessing) about JM... got it!

Love the "its because they have been"... so authoritative...

Since the Hoyer reports are not about his play, are about how he dresses?

It's commonly held that D starts faster then O.

For every report I heard/ read saying Hoyer had an "off" (not bad, but off) Day 4, I heard/read one saying he looked good. For the record it was 2 each...

Walter, you are dangerously close to becoming a voice of reason around here.

Agree, but would rephrase as "no reason to hurry Johnny". Two years puts him right on schedule to graduate with his A&M class. While I doubt that he sits the full two years (or even this full year), it wouldn't hurt if he did.

  • Once again you guys dont seem to understand professional sports. Browns are talking about Hoyer to get M anziels attention the same way you hit on the fat girl to make her hot friend pay attention to you.

I feel bad for Hoyer. I really do. Hes a lame duck.

You can take everything in the Browns have said about Hoyer but their actions say otherwise. If hes "Tom Brady" then why'd they pick a QB in yhe first round? Its not even about Manziel, it couldve been Teddy B and the point remains. The Browns believe in Hoyer to the extent they took a QB in round 1. Thats reality and the only message that you know is fact.

Saying the majority don't understand something and using a conspiratorial statement based off of hear say and gossip always succeeds in changing opinions.
  • Ok let me try it this way.

EVERYTHING being done right now is to get Manziel prepared. EVERYTHING.

The minute, very second, the Browns drafted a QB in the first round, Hoyer became a lame duck QB. Its not if he loses the job, its when. The Browns are not wasting one ounce of energy on Hoyer because top to bottom they all know Manziel is the future starter. Everything is going into getting him ready ASAP. EVERYTHING.

If you dont understand that, then you do not understand NFL football. The decision on Hoyer has already been made, at the NFL draft. How thr Browns really feel about Hoyer is reflected in that pick.

Yeah Manziel will be the starter eventually. Nobody is debating that. Would we like to see Hoyer light it up? Of course. It would be good for the team.

Would most prefer the Hoyer plays well to keep Manziel on the bench to allow him to get acclimated to the speed, playbook, and work ethic needed (please no more articles about his work ethic at A&M, we get it. I'd rather see him learn it, along with his innate ability, by watching professionals who have done this for years) to succeed in this league? Yup.

I'd rather wait for JM to be ready to start then to let him figure it out on the fly. It's all about his long term viability.

  • I love this thread.

As a fan of both Manziel and Hoyer, it is pure gold watching Browns fans rip apart one or the other 4 days into their camp battle.

This is going to be the best season ever.

  • Andre Reed sure does have some opinions about things....I prefer "Johnny Eightball"

    via deadspin

Andre Reed wants to tell you how he feels, how he really feels. And it probably will involve copious amounts of "fuck" and one drop of "motherfucker."
We know this thanks to a lengthy New York magazine takeout by Reeves Wiedeman about how much people in Buffalo hate the idea of Jon Bon Jovi buying their team. It's chock full of delightful details, but the spotlight belongs to the newly minted Hall of Famer from Buffalo. He is pissed.
    First, on Bon Jovi:
"Man, fuck Bon Jovi!" Reed said. "You might as well just take this city, throw it in the river, and let it go down Niagara Falls."
During the interview, ESPN showed a tweet from Johnny Manziel calling LeBron James "my guy." Reed, seemingly unprompted, weighed in.
"Who the fuck is Johnny Manziel?" Reed asked. "LeBron ain't your guy! You're not 'Johnny Football.' You're 'Johnny Rookie Bitch.' "
So tell us, how would Johnny Football do in Buffalo?
"They'd boo that motherfucker outta here," he said. "The fans would put him in his place."
Yeah! That's right! The crowd of Buffalo Bills fans goes wild!
Despite the fact that most of Reed's venom is reserved for those who would move the team to Toronto, he can't deny that Toronto can be a pretty fun place.
"Now, I ain't gonna lie to you," Reed said. "One year I went up to Toronto, and man, I had a good-ass time up there."
    "Off the record," Sabuda said.
"Off the record—I had a great time," Reed said. When I asked if he would continue being a part of the franchise as he had in Buffalo, he paused, then admitted that his allegiance to the city wasn't ironclad: "If they paid me."
We ain't gonna lie to you either, Andre. Don't be surprised if Toronto asks you to put a dollar figure on your loyalty.
  • I read that yesterday and found it to be a very odd interview.

    Very Very Odd.

  • Odd, but funny.

Hoyer should be a lame duck given that JFF was a first round pick.

But what we DON"T know is if JFF is just Brady/Colt/Brandon Jr. Whether he is all smoke and mirrors, of if he has real sum and substance. We don't know if JFF is just the fat chick's fat friend.

We don't know that. You don't know that. The coaches don't know that. Maybe the Gods know it...if there are any Gods.

  • Youre right, and I've said it over and over, Manziel might not be any good. However just like the other guys he was drafted to start and he will start at some point.

My point has never been that Manziel is amazing, the point is Hoyer is not going to be the starting QB of the future. The fantasy land that exists in this thread about Kurt Warner and Brian Sipe is my problem. The Browns drafted a QB for a reason, now they can tell the media how much they love Hoyer all they want, but their actions are that they traded up in the first round to get a guy to replace him. Thats exactly what the Browns think of Hoyer.

Again, you don't know what the future holds. The fact that there has been a Brian Sipe and a Kurt Warner in the past means that somewhere, somehow there will be one again in the future.

I am not predicting that for Hoyer. I agree that they got a guy to replace him......

but, be aware that until that guy that they got to replace him shows he has the stones....he won't replace him, yet.

Not sure why you are getting your panties in a bunch about it. Let it play out. It doesn't matter what anyone here says about the situation. It only matters what JFF and Hoyer do.

Lets actually observe each of them doing something before worrying about it.

So riddle me this Batman- if the Browns thought Manziel was all that great, why didn't they take him @ #4? Then they trade down and take a cornerback @ #8. Obviously they thought Gilbert was more valuable to the Browns than Manziel at that point. Yeah, a f**king cornerback.

The only reason Manziel was still on the board was because Jerry Jones (by his own admission) had a senior moment- more like an Al Davis moment, and passed on him. Tony Romo is coming off back surgery and he isn't getting any younger.

The Browns took Manziel (most likley) because he was BPA according to all the draftnicks rankings. I- and a bunch of others here- have said taking a quarterback at all in the first was hedging their bets. They liked what they saw of Hoyer- but the sample size was too small, and he's coming off an ACL. Maybe he is a career backup, and will flop now that teams have more tape on him. He deserves his chance to show what he can do- we haven't even played any preseason games yet. Yes Manziel was drafted with the hope- and I emphasize hope he will eventually be the long term solution. If Hoyer lights it up, and Johnny sits, so much the better. You're one of the few who isn't willing to admit it's at least a possibility. So calm down, it will all sort itself out in due time.
