  • The difference between Wilson and Manziel was that Russell was an accomplished pocket passer in two different pro style offenses. Johnny, not so much.

  • if manziel breaks through and proves me wrong.......i consider that a bonus at this point and time.

i just don't have the patience anymore for these kids like manziel and mccoy and whoever else you want to throw into the mix, to 'develop' or give him some time bullshit.

either you have it or you don't. that should be pretty easy to see in anyone's second year.

  • first in and last out..........it sure hasn't been reported about manziel, in any season.

Browns OC says Manziel's work ethic 'fantastic'

New Browns offensive coordinator John DeFilippo also recently heaped loads of praise on Manziel, using the words “great,” “fantastic” and “awesome” to describe his work ethic after spending 10 weeks in rehab.

“All I know is this: From the moment he stepped in this building,” DeFilippo said, “he’s been nothing but a consummate professional. He’s spent every hour that he’s been allowed to spend in this building.”

BEREA: Browns strong safety Donte Whitner has been monitoring the main parking lot at team headquarters in recent weeks, and he’s noticed a specific car is usually there earlier and later than the others.

It belongs to quarterback Johnny Manziel.

“He’s taken the steps that it takes to be a good quarterback,” Whitner said Tuesday after the first practice of organized team activities.

Another difference is that Darell Bevell gave Wilson and Flynn the same playbook, and Wilson executed better than Flynn and legitimately won his position. Manziel didn't learn the playbook and didn't earn his position.

Then, when he did get the start, Shanahan tried to change the playbook, which is fucking stupid but unsurprising because Shanahan is a fucking stupid guy.

Point is, stop comparing him to Brees, Wilson, Tarkenton, whoever and expecting him to follow in their footsteps. He'll either win the job or he won't. Either way, he's not going to do it like anyone else.

i saw that when it was written 3 weeks ago. to me just another PR response given by a coach to reap praise on a player.

let's see how it translates to 'on the field'.

    'go johnny go'.

  • For me it's about his (Johnny's) decision making. Even when he was making highlight reel scrambles, there were smarter and easier throws available. Mechanics can be improved, footwork can improve, understanding defenses can improve. What your eyes see and how fast you turn that into a precise and safe play rarely improves from college to pros.

Well yeah people are going to be more negative about the guy. The team invested a first into a guy who chose to get smashed instead of learning the playbook. People are going to scrutinize the hell out of him. Deservedly so.

Plus, he's a quarterback. We will bitch and bitch about the QBs until we get the right one. Then we still bitch a little bit about him.

    They are lightning rods.

If McClown goes out and stinks it up, we will be unforgiving to him and the Farmer who rode him into town.

So JF brought in by Street Bum and A Farmer (Tex or Jed) rides in Josh as A Mentor or Bridge OH MY.. This is a Caddy Shack "Cinderella Story" now isn't it 😉

  • it will be an interesting season. I am optimistic because I believe In Pettine and Farmer and what they are trying to build in Cleveland. I don't know if Manziel can develop into an NFL qb or not but I give him credit thus far for his work ethic. I would agree with the assessment below:

    http://espn.go.com/blog/cleveland-browns/post/_/id/13970/josh-mccown-brought-in-to-play-not-to-mentor

NFL teams do not win by signing and paying millions of dollars to players to be mentors.

So it’s wise to consider that Josh McCown is not the Cleveland Browns quarterback because he’s a mentor to Johnny Manziel. He’s the quarterback because the Browns believe that with a strong defense and good running game, it can win games by not asking McCown to do too much.

The Browns believe they are a better team this season with defensive improvements, with run-game improvements and with McCown. Many disagree. That will play out. But at this point, the team is not counting on Manziel to start. If he plays well enough to seize the job, that will be a bonus. If he plays well once he seizes the job, that’s a bonus with a slice of banana on top.

But way back in February, coach Mike Pettine said this of McCown: “We would not have brought him here if we didn’t feel that [he could win].” And this: “We’re not just looking to bring in a guy to be a leader and a mentor.”

I agree with this whole statement....think McCown is who they've planned on playing all along...

Id say the real QB battle is actually gonna end up being for back-up....Manziel vs Lewis vs Shaw......

Last year we only carried 2 QB's, so assuming we do the same this year, there is only one spot available....

Shaw can "maybe" make the practice squad again, though I have to believe there's a very realistic chance someone would grab him.....Manziel would never clear waivers.....and Lewis is 5th year, so isnt eligible....

I know the Browns want to win now......So the #2 QB better be ready to go game 1.......cause I dont see us keeping 3......

yeah can we get something recent?

sorta like the espn splash about winston being the first in and out of camp reported last week? something a team expects from a rookie first round QB........

oh wait! manziel isn't a rookie anymore. got it.

  • So they have to say it every couple of weeks?

  • Well I'm back from 2 weeks in Hawaii so I may as well post this little gem about the Browns mishandling JM. LOL! 😆

Actually we heard the same thing last year. Said at the time it was not simply the quantity (hours), but the quality of the time spent. Same applies this year...

    Yes, there was that.

Hoyer 2.0... The continuing search for a game-managing QB. And this candidate has a stronger arm. Say what you will about Johnny, but of all the adjectives used to describe him, game-manager ain't one of them.

As for the back up... I can't recall which of our team's newfound fans arrived here last year saying that the biggest risk would be to not start JM because he couldn't control his idle time. Anywho... not a great trait for a back-up so if nothing else came out of rehab, changing this had better have.

  • And then there's this.

    vTGTd88.jpg

Can't wait til we cut this asshole.

  • Background story on that picture?

  • Reportedly got into some sort of altercation with fans and/or cops at the Byron Johnson Tournament. This tweet went out this morning. Other reports that he was detained by cops, chewed them out, then that he left in an uber. His agents say that he was being harassed by a fan. I don't have any idea what actually happened, but his pattern of fuckery continues, so fuck him.

That looks like a 2-4 year old picture from his College Station days so I guess you don't give a shit about his rehab attempt now. Nice way to support a Browns player.

  • So, in any event, the guy is still a fucking idiot.

Oh fuck off. Why are you even here? Johnny Manziel is a no talent ass clown. He's short, too slow to evade NFL DEs and LBs, his arm isn't as strong as he thinks it is, he's too stupid to read a defense, and he's too much of an alcoholic to ever be the leader of an NFL team. The guy was given every opportunity to succeed and he's blown it time and time again. The sooner this asshole goes back to Texas, the better.
