It's funny that Browns Fans want to fight about their QB spiking a water bottle in the direction of some douchebag, but Steeler Fans defend their raping QB. The sooner Browns Fans get on board and tell the media and other teams fans to shove off, the sooner we get rid of this non-sense... although I half suspect the ones that claim to be annoyed by the constant Manziel droning also like it very much...

  • the fact that you don't see it as a problem kinda amazes me. sure if names were different it'd be a non-story but given it's manziel it's like another paper on a stack of papers (as someone else mentioned earlier) of the johnny 'mess'.

you might see it as a non-problem but i assure you there are people in the ranks of the browns including those who to choose to pay him that do.

What's the problem? Some punk fan heckled Johnny. He handled it like an adult for a while, then he became flustered and threw a water bottle when the fan followed him back to the hotel. Security stepped in, separated the two, the end.

How is that a problem? I assure you that there are people in the ranks of the Browns, including those who choose to pay him, that don't view it as a problem, including Mike Pettine:

Q: What are your thoughts on the incident that Johnny was involved in over the weekend with the heckling fan and the bottle-throwing?

    Pettine: I have no thoughts. It's a non-story.

    Q. Does it worry you in any way that …

    A. It's a non-story.

    Q. These non-stories keep happening.

    A. Is that a question?

    Q. Are you concerned that these non-stories keep happening?

    A. No. I'm not.

    Q. Why does it become a story? If Donte Whitner threw a water bottle at somebody … would Donte Whitner throw a water bottle at somebody?

    A. That's a hypothetical. You could insert any name, I think under the right set of circumstances everybody standing here could get to the point where they would do something along those lines. Again, I don't see it as a story.

    Q. Given the world we live in now, did you talk to Johnny? You don't want to deprive him of the ability to be in public or whatever, but did you talk to him about taking a lower profile, specifically now because of what he's going through and he's a little bit more of a target than he's ever been?

    A. We've had a conversation. I'll keep those details private.

    Q. This is what he brings, a lot of attention. Anything that happens becomes a quote, unquote story, whether it's a non-story or not. How do you deal with that in terms of the team and keeping it from being a distraction?

    A. I don't see it as a distraction.

    Q. We don't know if he actually threw the bottle at the fan or whatever, but does that concern you that if he can be provoked like that socially that maybe he has a ways to go on the football field where people will be heckling him and harassing him and those kind of things?

    A. I have the details of what happened, and in my mind it's a non-story.

Here's a few more takes on the Manziel story by a certain well loved member of the Browns:

Cornerback Joe Haden called the story "overblown." Haden said the fan at the tournament was badgering Manziel for two hours and that once Manziel said no to an autograph that should have been the end.

"He had been heckling him for two hours," Haden said. "Can somebody please get the kid away from [Manziel]? It gets annoying. It gets to the point where people are just out to just say stuff to just get a reaction out of people."

Haden said when he goes out in downtown Cleveland he has security with him, but he said people are nicer to him than they are to Manziel.

"We may be leaving a restaurant. We're walking back to the valet going to the car and then you hear, like, 'How was rehab?'" Haden said. "I'm like, 'Dude. You're just getting at him and we're just chillin' leaving the restaurant.'

"It's just negativity that people are trying to get a reaction out of him."

and we all know that a coach/gm/owner would not lie in response to protect their player but actually have another opinion altogether?

i'm sure when the coaches and the other higher up's open their newspaper or read the news on their tablets or pcs they are thrilled to see manziel's name attached to another screwup.

    give me a break.

It's a non story but it doesn't look good and Manziel doesn't need this kind of publicity. I don't think Manziel should have been forced to leave the hotel because someone else is acting bad. The one acting bad is the one who needs to leave. Manziel should have just had the hotel security take care of the problem. They could have warned the 18 year old who was harassing Manziel to stop and if he continued I'm sure they could have escorted him off the premises.

You ask for something. I give it to you. You discredit it and ask for something else.

That's why this conversation is over.

  • and if you look at the national map, which shows sales by state, you'll see Johnny was #1 in 3 states.....OK, KY and OH.....and considering he was 5th in Cleveland, it's pretty apparent his sales were vastly inflated by "new Browns fans".....

Using the map, it's obvious almost ALL areas are buying jerseys for their local players(closest teams)...except OK.....

    http://www.dsg.com/pages/best-selling-nfl-jerseys-by-state

and if you use the map and go by TEAM sales, you'll see OK is unique as one of only 2 states who favor a team far far away (as arkansas likes the Stoolers)....

    http://www.dsg.com/pages/best-selling-nfl-jerseys-by-state

So, if OK has JFF as #1 and the Browns as #1, we can assume that they sold a HUGE amount of JFF jerseys.....

And KY sold more Cinn jerseys, yet had JFF as #1 too......so.....more PROOF that JFF's jerseys sold more elsewhere...

As an Oklahoman, I'm surprised Dez doesn't have the lead. I would give it to Bradford or AP but Bradford plays for the Eagles, and unfortunately this is Cowboy country, and, well, AP speaks for itself.

As for seeing Brown's jerseys here, I believe I've seen a grand total of 5, including my own (it's a Braylon Edwards jersey, not sure if that makes it any better), within the past what 5 or 6 years, none of which were JM. Maybe it is all those 12 year olds that Z has been talking about.

  • yeah cuz when the term 'bad boy QB' is used the first image that pops into your head is johnny manziel, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It wasn't the term I used originally. I just threw it out so we could distill what we were talking about into one, easy-to-use phrase. For a guy who can't argue and who tells me to take it easier, you sure do like to pointlessly prod me a lot.

Hahaha. And if he had left after a half hour, you'd say he should have left after 15 minutes (as you said would have been the case were it you, only 3 posts later. Like I said, people's prism affects how they're going to view the situation.

It's funny because I could probably find a half dozen posts from Mik praising Pettine for being a straight shooter and not blowing smoke up our rears.

Please refer to Post 93 on page 5 of this thread where the term "bad boy QB" was introduced.

Irrelevant to the point we're discussing. Browns fans, despite your claims, proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that they wanted to be fans of a bad boy QB.

Just go ahead and own it, it'll be easier for you.

Most would have thrown the water bottle after 15 minutes. As it is, Johnny got pushed out of his chair, scrambled around for an extra 90 minutes looking for someone to throw the water bottle at, eventually found a target and took 15 minutes to release it, hoping for the best.

You know, the more I read things from people about the guy I'm convinced they'd rather see him and as a result the Browns fail. It's very possible at this point Manziel is a bust and won't work out, but who the hell wants that? I'd rather have a "punk kid" like Manziel actually turn into a damn franchise QB than sit and watch another wandering veteran QB lead the team to 4-7 wins.

Is it crazy to think we are the source for their news?

  • Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, is overreacting about Manziel. Johnny Manziel is a competitor and a heck of a good QB. He could be on any NFL teams roster right now. We should be happy that we have a QB like him waiting to get out there and take control of this team. That is his goal and that is our hope. It will happen. Last year it was Hoyer's team, there is no question about it. Since the McCoy handling on the QB spot with Weeden and everything else, when Hoyer showed that he was capable and then went down with an injury, it was his team... everyone knew that. When they drafted John Manziel is was expected that Hoyer would be the starter barring an injury or supreme excellence from Manziel that proved otherwise. When Hoyer hit the wall and Manziel was called on to get in there, he did so with limited reps with the starters. Manziel will win the Starting Job by week one and get his shot. McCown is an insurance policy that was necessary to have, Johnny may need more time, he may sustain injury with his 'never say die' demeanor and his ability to make plays on the fly with his legs. McCown thus has a task of always being ready to step in, to mentor Manziel in the ways of a veteran QB(which is something Hoyer would not do because he wanted the job for himself). That is the end of the story. Manziel is our QB, suck it up and accept it and shut the fuck up, it is what it is..

Third stringer Conner Shaw was more in command and looked more like an NFL QB with less hype and even FEWER reps with 1st or 2nd team than johnny football.

I just see a bunch of angry, fed up and disappointed people.
