RunThe9@tjRT9sSpiritually, these are similar ideas. Great self scouting from Shanahan & Co.
Defenses are clued to RBs crossing the formation to flat against man/match in the redzone.
How do you fix it? Invite the overpursuit & punish it.

Sam Monson@SamMonsonNFLThis is a filthy route to call.
Nakobe Dean had absolutely no reason at all to expect that route to break back inside.
Miracle he got as close to it as he did, which is nowhere near. -
There's that word again fans love to toss around- "scheme". They can't explain it, but somehow it's a catch/cure all for the football IQ.
RunThe9@tjRT9sSure, if we ignore that HOU...
- calls C4 & C6 3x-4x more
- runs nearly half the rate of man 1
- blitzes on 3rd down at nearly half the rate CLE does
- They run more BOSS fronts, we run more MUG
...but yeah, *EXACT* same, bud.

Tony Grossi@TonyGrossiTroy Aikman said there's no defense in the NFL like Houston's. He hasn't seen the Browns this year. Same exact scheme. -
Carter Smith is not an NFL OT
RunThe9@tjRT9sBuilt my QB, WR & OL watch list.
Starting with the trenches for the two teams playing in the natty.
- Carter Smith of #IndianaFootball
* TL;DR. Measurements & lack of technique necessitates a move to IOL at the NFL level if he is to challenge for starting snaps. *

Good breakdown. Actively always looking for work too.

Great job sharing your analysis Tuesday on the discord. As someone that played OL for 9 years - I think you looked at all the right things starting with his base. His unique pass pro set sure doesn't make it easy on himself. He'll probably get thrown into the pretty big group of Tackles with shorter arms this year making NFL shoppers not comfortable. As I've pointed out the month or 2 this is a VERY SMALL class of guys that will play LT in the NFL (hence my urgency to hope Berry understands the importance of draft preparation for the teams biggest need).
Despite all that, Carter Smith has given up 0 sacks. Therefore, beyond the good luck - there's a scrappy volume of work worthy of praise IMO. Hopefully I didn't just jinx him; because I want them to beat Miami. They can't do it without getting Rueben Bain Jr blocked though.
I'm pretty sure Smith will get drafted by somebody; but I don't know if it will be to play LT (which you pointed with not an NFL OT). Interestingly enough, the Bears drafted 6'8" Tackle Ozzy Trapilo from BC in round 2 in 2025 (who took over the starting job at LT in week 12 before getting injured in the 2nd half of their playoff game vrs GB) but the biggest thing that surprises me here is his short arm length for a guy that height shown below. This guy became pretty damn good for a rookie despite that 33" arm length handicap that give NFL scouts panic attacks. I'm guessing he does some things a lot easier with more fluidity than Carter Smith - but I admire Carter Smith's effort. You don't accomplish giving up 0 sacks as a LT if you're not willing to work for 60 minutes. I wouldn't use a 1st or 2nd round pick on him but in round 6 or 7 to kick him in at OG or try him at RT or maybe even Center? Why not?

in a later round, Smith will make a great guard, who could
stand in as a tackle if needed.

We've turned our QBs into morons, by and large. ALERT the go, based on key. This is the limit to PP systems.
RunThe9@tjRT9s- Formation strength (quads?) to boundary.
- We want a crystal clear read to the field 1v1 pre-snap.
- If you like the safety leverage presnap, we double check post & take the shot.
- We don't like the leverage pre/post, read is muddled, we don't take the shot.

Richard Sherman@RSherman_25To all young CBs if you are playing COVER 2 and you have no FLAT threat continue to sink with your vertical!!! This is text book! Love to see great fundamentals rewarded. -

RunThe9@tjRT9sI love watching Makai Lemon and compare him so favorably to an all time #Buckeyes great, Anthony Gonzalez. Much like with Gonzo, I'm convinced the only thing that stops him from being great in the NFL is (god forbid) injury.

One more on Taylen, for you. This is batshit insane, yet he pulls it off.
There are serious coaching points and development to be done here. But at the same time, you have to be a *little* impressed.
RunThe9@tjRT9sFor what film I could find on Taylen Green, this rep from the senior bowl stands-out to me as the one which highlights both his weaknesses and his gifts all within the same play.
- Raw footwork that needs serious refinement.
- Questionable & inconsistent throwing mechanics Show more
