Position Groups of Need

And with 12 picks,
....we should be able to move up the board somewhere to snag a player that we liked that has slid down the draft a bit.
-
Have no fear, the latest overall #22 is just waiting in the wings for a call from Depo/Jimmy.??
lol...Actually I was thinking something like moving back into round 2....or packaging up a bunch of our 6th round picks (I think we've got 5 of 'em) to get back into round 4 or 5.

no no no ,we need to move back again to get more 6th and 7th and maybe a few 5th rounders in the 2026 draft

I got as far as TE. I was pleasantly surprised with Akins this season. I looked up his stats and he got 40 catches and 2 TDs, and was good for almost 10 yds/catch last year. Those are solid numbers for a 2nd string TE. I think he iron manned it through the whole season too. Maybe missed 1 game?
He’s north of 30 years old and l believe a free agent now. I wouldn’t mind a re-sign.

...well...let's put it this way...we probably don't need a Punter.
QB - We should view the position as having an empty room.
RB - This will be a position in transition. I've certainly seen enough of Pierre NotSoStrong and Fumbling Foreman. Ford will be here and Chubb deserves a shot.
TE - Need someone besides Njoku that can block and catch.
WR - Could use a little help. That Travis Hunter kid could be some help........enough help?
OL - IMO, every position group could use help. LT being at the top of that list.
DL - DT & DE, 1 ea.
LB - Yes, How many? Is JOK going to play anymore? (hoping he's doing ok...football or no football)
S - Yes, very weak position.
CB - Yes. We have Ward, and then some high picks that aren't playing to high levels. That Travis Hunter kid could help here.
K - Yes. Apparently the Chargers knew what they were doing when they replaced him.
-------------
QB is the highest priority whenever you don't have one. It's just that simple. Having said that, if you don't value either of the top 2 QB's in the draft.....that Travis Hunter kid possibly checks two boxes for ya.

LB & OL would be my priority outside of QB
I haven't really looked into the other 31 teams due to laziness lol, but I seriously doubt there's another NFL team that has its 3 leading tacklers as DBs. AND, most of our DBs simply cannot tackle outside of Delpit ( who sucks in pass coverage).

Man, this really spells out Best Player Available throughout the draft. Virtually every group is a definitive need.

The good news is Ohio State is no longer further away than Siberia for the Browns. Here's some well deserved news that may end up with 1 or 2 of the guys mentioned wearing a Browns uniform in the very near future. In a way, it's good news that Downs won't be available until next year - but this is a weakness that needs to be addressed this year. That said, Donovan Jackson and Seth McLaughlin offer flexibility to an aging and injury prone OL.
Ohio State Safety Caleb Downs Becomes A Unanimous All-American, Donovan Jackson Also Named First-Team All-American by Sporting News
Caleb Downs is officially a unanimous All-American.
The Ohio State safety became the 34th different player in Ohio State history to earn unanimous All-American honors as he was named Wednesday as a first-team All-American by Sporting News.
Donovan Jackson also earned first-team All-American honors at guard from Sporting News while Seth McLaughlin was named a second-team All-American on the offensive line.
Downs becomes the fourth safety in Ohio State history to earn unanimous All-American honors, joining Malik Hooker (2016), Mike Doss (2002) and Jack Tatum (1970).
Downs, who transferred to Ohio State after one year at Alabama, is the first-ever transfer to earn unanimous All-American honors for the Buckeyes. He and Seth McLaughlin, Ohio State’s other consensus All-American this year, are the first two transfers to earn consensus All-American honors for the Buckeyes.
Already considered to be the best safety in college football when he transferred to Ohio State, Downs has lived up to the hype in his first season as a Buckeye. He recorded 62 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, one interception and three pass breakups during the regular season, leading the way for Ohio State’s defense to lead the country in both points and yards allowed per game with his excellence in both coverage and tackling. He also had a 79-yard punt return for a touchdown against Indiana, Ohio State’s first punt return touchdown in 10 years.
Overall, Downs’ unanimous All-American season is the 39th in Ohio State history as five Buckeyes have earned the honor twice: Marvin Harrison Jr. (2022-23), Orlando Pace (1995-96), Archie Griffin (1974-75), Bob Ferguson (1960-61) and Howard “Hopalong” Cassady (1954-55). As a sophomore who is still a year away from being draft-eligible, Downs will have the chance to join that illustrious group if he performs up to expectations next season.

Downs seemed like the best player on OSU. He's a beast.

He had a solid season. Let's see if we can make him TE3.

A definite argument could be made that he is.

I always really try to temper my OSU homerism when doing mock drafts, etc...
But sweet 8lb, 6oz baby Jesus, the amount of Ohio State players this year that I would love the Browns to draft is staggering. I totally forgot about McLaughlin, he'd be a great interior OLineman along with Donovan Jackson... And of course Josh Simmons at LT.
There's the entire Buckeyes DLine, I love me some Cody Simon at LB, both RBs Henderson and Judkins, safety Lathan Ransom and CB Denzel Burke and WR Emeka Ebuka.

No Homer, you'd be better with Michigan's DL

I'd have no problem with TTUNs DLine prospects either... I said recently that I'd be fine if all of the Browns picks were from Ohio State, Penn State and TTUN.

If you are only a player or so away from a realistic SB shot, then you can think about positional needs. Other than that, accumulating as many stud players as you can has to be the goal. You can never have too many good players.
