I think the Martian 'air' is starting to get to ya. That wouldn't be at all glitzy. No, the draft is where one can get maximum glitz.

It'll be Arch (Max Glitz) Manning.

“Dee and Jimmy Haslam really want a winning football team for that city. It is no doubt about it. I know there’s questions about whether they are too hands-on and they need to back away, or whatever it is, but at the same time with some of these circumstances, I would never say that it’s just black and white,” Landry said. ...actually, I'm usually a pessimist...that way I'm not as disappointed.

If Monken actually chose Watson because he was the best of his QB Crop, then the question actually is: As badly as Watson has played, how bad must Sanders be to not get the call to start? He'd have to be pretty bad.

Haslam has always struck me as the guy that wants Glitz! He wants the Glitzy guy. I would argue that Watson is not the glitzy guy in comparison to Sanders. Sanders is far more popular with the fans. Heck, his father is Prime Time! I would've thought that Haslam would've liked nothing better than for Watson to be mostly invisible on the bench this season and then put the Watson deal to bed next June.

I suspect Haslam will resign Watson and not draft a highly rated QB

I suspect that you will obsessively post about Watson for as long as this board lasts

    @Dutch-Oven re-signing Watson is no longer a troll though. It's a legit option 😅

I've given only a little thought as to Watson's future with us since being named the starter because there's still 3/4 of the season to play. I've always felt that he'd be a June 1st cut. I still feel that way...but not as strongly as before. I still feel that with two 1st round picks, we try to move into position to take our future QB in next April's draft. But the season has to play out, both for Watson, and the potential QB's of the draft.

Sanders had better be prepared to win games when he gets his shot. Watson and his somewhat fragile body is overdue for his season ending injury. But by winning 3 straight to vault us into 1st place he has raised the bar for Shedeur. Sanders has to prove that he's the better option than Watson...AND that he's the better option than using draft assets to get one of the top QB's in the '27 draft.
Also on the horizon is Gabriel and his coming off of IR. I'm assuming that that decision about carrying 4 QB's is not far off.

I have no idea why people are so hopeful for Sanders. I get that people wanted him over Watson because of Watson's past and sexual assault accusations and all - but Sanders has shown absolutely nothing that should lead anything to believe that he's even a capable backup.

I'd feel a lot better if our backup QB was someone like Keenum.

Also with the trajectory and how weak our schedule is feels like top prospects in 27' are going to be out of the Browns reach.

I'm not optimistic about any of the Browns (3) QB prospects theyre carrying, although Taylen Green has the most potential albeit by far the most rough around the edges.

To be fair... The jury is still out on Sanders... He's young in his career... His day will come... Rodgers sat behind Favre a few years as did Love behind Rodgers..

Right. None of our QB's could really be properly evaluated last year. The QB's had nothing to work with. No OLine. No Denzel Boston, no KC Concepcion, It was a shit show.

Because he's on the team and his college QB stats were right up there with the best in the draft.

Absolutely. But that assumes that you've got your franchise QB in place. We didn't even know who our starter was until just before the season started.

We have two 1st round picks. That alone brings a lot of the draft board within reach.

OverTheCap link to Deshaun's contract -- note the language at the bottom: Needs to be cut by second day of 2027 league year to take advantage of post-6/1 designation.

This is the reason Watson is still on the team. Obviously culture/locker room means he should have been cut years ago.

Note that next season when he does get cut, only 1M of cap savings occur on the 2027 books and there's still 51M guaranteed to eat in 2028, which probably should be done all in that season to be good moving forward.

Sure, just win baby, but Watson isn't actually good -- this is more Nick Foles has one halfway decent season. Browns still need a consistent QB. I don't think they should trade up to the 1 but rather sit and let someone good fall, because they always do. Someone's going to take Checkdown Arch because many GM's are dumb, and that leaves Mensah or CJ Carr for us.

Sayin's accuracy and newfound willingness to scramble will make him a great rd3 backup.

  • I hope it's Sanders for now, I can find plenty of other things to do if watson starts.

    That list is long...

GREAT! We'll see you next year!

Agree, because he still tries to make that extra yard or two head first. It's only a matter of time. I said earlier it will be by game 6 as usual. I'm sticking to that.

@Orion Watson seems to be getting better every game so far. An injury would be the only thing that stops him from starting. Shedeur is NOT better, but is a serviceable back-up.

With the 4QBs and next years picks, I do see us being open to offers for any of them.

Insider Benjamin Solak of ESPN said he believes the Browns are one position away from truly competing, and an upgrade at quarterback would make them much better.
“Cleveland Browns are 4-2. They are atop of the AFC North. I really truly believe the Browns are a quarterback away from being a good team. I fully do. What are we talking about being a quarterback away? Because at halftime in this game, Deshaun Watson had two completions. The best game Deshaun Watson has played this year was the prime time game against the Steelers, without question. The last two games he’s played, a loss to the Jets and this win over the Ravens, have been horrible, horrible football. Deshaun is not playing good quarterback.

We seem to be right exactly where we didn't want to be...again. Trying to evaluate our starting QB in relation to the upcoming draft while him having an excuse of poor OL play. An entirely new OL, including OL coach, exactly the same result. Uncanny.

I think this year differs in that we're not evaluating a 22 year old rookie. This is an older veteran. The bar is going to be set higher. He's going to have to play to quite a high level in order to keep us from drafting a QB in round 1. And he's certainly not playing ANYWHERE NEAR the level he needs to play at. We're now in the second 3rd of the season. So far, we're not just drafting one in the 1st round. We're bundling picks to move towards the top of the draft. I have to assume that Monken saw what he needed to see from Sanders in TC practices & preseason to know that having him on the team is no reason not to get the best QB you can in this year's draft. If not for our D so far, we'd be sporting a top 5 pick.
