I've been saying this current front office is building the Browns for the new stadium in Brookpark all offseason,

Yes you have.  And now media pundits are saying it.  And it's true.  But I also think that they're just playing the hands that their dealt.  The Rams just kept calling back and sweetening the deal until the scale tipped.  Also on that side of the scale was Myles' behavior of wanting out last year and again now.  And, of course, his value isn't going to go up at his age.  So, they got a good young player to replace him, sort of, and a 1st round pick for the annual QB Draft Derby.

Myles was vocal about his displeasure of Monken's hire over Schwartz...and kind of snubbing Monken by not stopping in to say Hi while he was in town for a Cavs game...I'm assuming that Monken didn't think to highly of him, aside from his ability to rush the passer.

I do not like that he doesn't become a Jim Brown or a Joe Thomas, Otto Graham, etc. and walk from the Browns turf to the HOF door.  But when the scales tip...

Someday he will be like others have done with various teams and come back to the Browns just to retire shortly thereafter.

When is Ward out the door?

  • A 1st and maybe change, but a first is on Andrew Berries bingo card.

  • A little more Verse spam.

  • The sooner we can draft another guy like Verse to pair with him the better.

One thing that I always wanted the Browns to do was to take another DE high to pair with him. He never really had a really good complement on the other side.

Can't tell if you're talking about Myles by 'always'... because we had Clowney at one point.

If you meant Verse -  then you're not giving Byron Young the credit he deserves.  Honorable mention to Braden Fiske.

If you're looking for a pass rush duo, the most likely, immediate, and preferred (by myself) would be Mason Graham taking that next step to becoming a great-to-elite 3tech.

And considering how well he played with rib injuries, I can see that happening.

Clowney pretty much was a one year hired gun.

I wanted the Browns to take a DE in the first round to pair with Garrett for years. Hell, I wanted them to take Bradley Chubb in 2018 not long after taking Myles. (Glad they didn't and went with Ward though).

He was.  Though that was sort of my point.  Having oustanding edge talent is great.

But the pass rushing duo doesn't exclusively have to be edge-edge.  The most effective defenses have a notable interior presence, if not great-to-elite.

Clowney was good.  Freakishly quick.  He didn't like it here.  After leaving he said, You were there to help Myles get sacks.

Even coming out of college, his ability was never in question.  The questioning came from his inner chest showing up as inconsistency in his performance leading his critics to feel/think he lacked the desire to ever go down as one of the all-time greats.  He contributed 9 sacks here in 2021, which isn't anything to complain about. In 2022 he had 2 sacks.  All that said, it just felt/seemed like if there was any small/last minute excuse not to play here - he made sure he found it...

  • Anybody who wants out finds their excuse, including Myles.
