How is Cleveland one of the fastest dying cities?
-
some of it is simply people leaving the city proper and moving to suburbs. But not all of it.

I don't understand how our cities are on the fastest dying lists. Are you losing population like Buffalo supposedly is?The entire Cleveland metro area population is declining. Same as Buffalo and Pittsburgh.
Portland, Oregon's metro area population is now larger than Cleveland's.

You can find that, but can't find a mention about Derek Anderson on a 49rs message board any where on the net?

Portland has - without question - the worst traffic planners on the planet. Somebody was smoking some serious grass designing those freeways. I am there once a month and the morning and afternoon traffic sucks.

Just liked to share my Cleveland story. Cleveland is a nice city with great landscaping.
Compared to Buffalo, it probably is.
I am a Clevelander, and always will be even though i don't live there anymore.
It is near dead because there isn't any tax money there anymore while keeping it affordable....just like Buffalo.
Industry is leaving and people don't have jobs that pay adequate taxes.....it isn't hard to figure out.

On my first trip to Cleveland last year, I was amazed at how empty dowtown was all weekend. Me and G-Man got up early on the Saturday and "hit the town" at 8am. I was kind of expecting a New York / Chicago experience. Man, it was a ghost town, just some shady looking dudes clocking us pasty out of town white boys walking round looking for somewhere open for breakfast! (which we couldn't find) I put it down to people working in the city but not living in the city. Is it also that quiet in the week?
As Shep says, it has much to be excited about re hotels / sports / music venues / museums etc etc so it would be sad to see it decline. Re the feral gangbangers, does downtown Cleveland have major issues here? I have to admit to complete naiveity here, me and the G-Man walked everywhere at all hours, usually intoxicated, last year. Were we being stupid, are taxis the way forward next week?

I would take them after 9PM or so. A few bucks spent on a cab is better than getting punched in the face and robbed.
There really are no late night spots to eat as you found out...best keep a little something in the room if a late night snack is in order.

I can think of a few other places that meet that description too!Unfortunately traffic planning is usually an afterthought of economic development. And no one designs for rush hour traffic (if we did, we'd have MASSIVE highways that are underutilized all but 6 hours a day).
I haven't been to Cleveland since...man...I don't remember. It can't be much worse than it was back in the 80's.
I went during the afternoon and reminded alot like Buffalo
morning though... its dead
luckily in new york...our bars are open until 4 am so its pretty busy at night time
Thank you NYC laws
