IMO there is no way the chargers keep him he might be one of if not THEE worst post-season kickers in NFL history when it comes to being clutch

    8-14 total in post-season games

missed a game winning kick vs the Jets his Rookie year (2004)

in his 3rd year missed a kick that would have sent a game vs NE to OT (2006)

came into todays game making like 67 straight kicks, today is 0-3 in a game that SD is down by 10 with 5 minutes left

the Chargers need a kicker who can be successful in the post-season if they want to win Kaeding isnt far off 50% while

Dawson is getting older he might not be around when we make the playoffs but Kaeding has another 7-8 years so if

we dont show improvement at leas we know we can count on him in the regular season

I was just going to post this. He is gone. Watch for Vinatieri or Stover in San Diego next year.

I would love to see him have to make another and miss. Dude looks like my 13 year old cousin.

On another note, Dawson is money. He should be a Brown for life.

Dawson is only 34, which is really young for a kicker, he's got another good 10+ years left in him, barring severe injury.

1st you assume the Browns will want to keep him around after next year (contract expires)

2nd he's turning 35 next week which makes him the 7th oldest starting Kicker in the NFL which isnt that young

ok and then a lot of those kickers will also be a year older, which would slide Dawson down more spots, he'll still be reliable for years to come.

What will kill Dawson's longevity in the NFL isn't his Field Goal accuracy, it's his rather weak leg as NFL kickers go. He's already way down on the list in average yards per KO.

we can just have Zastudil do kick offs, Dawson is great for normal FGs, it seems like he hits it 65-70% of the time on those really long FGs, at least from my experience of watching him.

For a kicker it's young. He has a few good years left. Look at "Lou the Toe Groza". Now there was a kicker! (Most of you probably don't even know who I'm talking about).

SAN DIEGO -- The Chargers' Nate Kaeding, 27, attempted suicide in the locker room after a loss 17 - 14 to the New York Jets. A source reports Kaeding was about to hang himself by placing some ropes, standing on a chair and kicking it, before Vincent Jackson came into the room because he forgot his cellphone. Kaeding reacted by quickly trying to kill himself, but couldn't kick the chair.

83% last year. 6 from 50+ and a 56 yarder. Has missed 9 games in 10 years. Dawson holds the team record for most consecutive field goals made (27), and most field goals in a game (6). Dawson is currently the 7th most accurate kicker in the NFL.

considering there are roughly 32 starting kickers, being 7th oldest isn't that bad. that makes him younger than almoast 1/5th of the starters, or 20%.

thats not too bad at all.

Man I feel sorry for kickers anymore, they are expected to make everything. Dawson talked about this a couple years ago how fans expect every kick to be made and it just aint as easy as it looks.

Compare today's kickers with even guys like Cockroft let alone The Toe, it's ridiculous how good they are now.

No doubt Kaeding felt the pressure, his last kick he leaned back trying to guide it. As a former long snapper, let me tell you that is a thankless position too. You can only screw up. We are in great hands with both Dawson and Butchie's famed 5th rounder. Dawson has years left and is one of the best, especially in our stadium that scares the crap out of opposing kickers come late in the year. I think he may still be looking for a contract though, I don't think that was resolved this year but he got hurt which didn't help him.

                                        Is a pig's ass pork?

1st you assume the Browns will want to keep him around after next year (contract expires)

2nd he's turning 35 next week which makes him the 7th oldest starting Kicker in the NFL which isnt that young

For a kicker it's young. He has a few good years left. Look at "Lou the Toe Groza". Now there was a kicker! (Most of you probably don't even know who I'm talking about).
