Nate Kaeding?

SAN DIEGO -- The Chargers' Nate Kaeding, 27, attempted suicide in the locker room after a loss 17 - 14 to the New York Jets. A source reports Kaeding was about to hang himself by placing some ropes, standing on a chair and kicking it, before Vincent Jackson came into the room because he forgot his cellphone. Kaeding reacted by quickly trying to kill himself, but couldn't kick the chair.

For a kicker it's young. He has a few good years left. Look at "Lou the Toe Groza". Now there was a kicker! (Most of you probably don't even know who I'm talking about).
when your the 7th oldest kicker your not young
when your the 7th oldest kicker your not young
when you don't skew facts and know that there is an entire long off season of birthdays, you are.

but its clear you wont listen to anything but your own pure ignorance

Man I feel sorry for kickers anymore, they are expected to make everything. Dawson talked about this a couple years ago how fans expect every kick to be made and it just aint as easy as it looks.
Compare today's kickers with even guys like Cockroft let alone The Toe, it's ridiculous how good they are now.
No doubt Kaeding felt the pressure, his last kick he leaned back trying to guide it. As a former long snapper, let me tell you that is a thankless position too. You can only screw up. We are in great hands with both Dawson and Butchie's famed 5th rounder. Dawson has years left and is one of the best, especially in our stadium that scares the crap out of opposing kickers come late in the year. I think he may still be looking for a contract though, I don't think that was resolved this year but he got hurt which didn't help him.

1st you assume the Browns will want to keep him around after next year (contract expires)
2nd he's turning 35 next week which makes him the 7th oldest starting Kicker in the NFL which isnt that young

I remember Master Chief.
RIP Louis Roy Groza January 25, 1924 November 29, 2000
Often imitated...Never duplicated....As good a Brown as there has ever been

considering there are roughly 32 starting kickers, being 7th oldest isn't that bad. that makes him younger than almoast 1/5th of the starters, or 20%.
thats not too bad at all.

yeah but he skewed the facts because he says he turns 35 soon, well guess what, a ton of kickers from now to next fall will be a year older, and then he wont be the 7th oldest anymore, it's completely arbitrary.

Right you are Rif. At least in one respect, the old timers just can't measure up to the current crop of kickers.
Lou "The Toe" is one of my childhood heroes, is in the HOF- and he'd be run out of the current NFL on a rail for his FG accuracy & distance.
For those young 'uns who don't realize it- the goal posts used to be on the goal line not the back of the endzone, and kickoffs used to be from the 40, not the 30. In the current NFL-if they played by the old rules, if you got to midfield, you'd be in FG range, and 99% of kickoffs would be coming back to the 20 yard line.

I'll never forget being on the field in the old stadium during "Final Play." Standing on the 20 yard line, those goal posts looked about an inch apart. I seem to remember watching fans trying to make a kick. lolol.

this one's tough....
what phil may have lost in distance, he's made up for in the clutch imo. he doesn't rattle easily, he understands how wind and field conditions affect a kick, and he can kick in poor weather. just knowing this eases my mind when he lines up.
however, this creates a bit of a problem with the current incarnation of our offense. when 5 yards is a challenge, distance on a kicker may be more important......dunno.

maybe that's why he co-led the nfl in scoring in 1957

I got it from a disgruntled Charger's fan.
