Coach Chud Fired -
A Ratbird Hanging It UpI hate the Ravens but have a great deal of respect for Ray Lewis and he's not "pathetic as a man". Do a little digging in to the guys current day to day dealings. How he is as a father, how he is in his community. How he gives back. All of which doesn't address he's a future hall of famer. He was a "innocent" bystander and the charges were dropped. If you want to take issue with something, take issue with the justice system.
This is a great, great watch. It's long but worth watching.
Jock Sniffer!

Weeden's AttitudeIs it me or does Weeden have a much better opinion of his performance than he should have for the end result? I listened to his post-game press conference & he seems to minimize his mistakes. I can, also, not stand the way he praises the opposing team's performance & was I the only one to see him exchanging pleasantries & a few smiles with the opposing team DURING THE GAME on the playing field? This is the heat of battle! These guys are your sworn enemies until the clock runs out! It's no wonder we lose season after season if a rookie feels he can have a happy session with the opposition during the game. Things have got to change! New owner, Jimmy, light a fire!!
Tim Couch used to act the same way.

Can Shurmur Do Math?Going for 2 or not is not the real problem there. It's that putrid offense! Do you really think they could have gained 2 yards on the goal line with one try? Hell no.

Injury Update Thread15 players still not practicing 3 days after 1st exhibition. That's bad.

Rumor Going Around ... Haden Failed Drug TestIts adderall. It doesn't really effect your body unless you OD. The effect of it is that it gets you really focused.
Yah, no kidding. The issue is not what the effect of adderall is. It's that it is currently a banned substance by NFL rules and why is he taking it. If he truly has an attention disorder then that is another case but if he is just abusing it like many people do these days then that's the problem.

Verified: Browns May Be Soldthen find another habit....like meth or a domestic violence scheme. no need for fans who just fall off a bandwagon, pick themselves up and move to being a steelers fan or cowboys fan.
"hit the road jack. don't you come back no more no more. no more no more. hit the road jack, don't come round here no more."
1 more season > loyalty none.
Say what you want. Doesn't bother me. I think you are trying to say I have no loyalty. So you should have used = not >.

Verified: Browns May Be SoldThis coming from the guy with the name "1 more season", who if I'm not mistaken, said he was quitting on the Browns last year. Always with the negative posts.

New Team NameI do understand the history. I just don't think it is all that good of a name for a sports team. I guess I believe that because it does come from a somewhat obscure historical situation that it is too subtle.
Fair enough! As a huge PENS fans I kind of like the name Bluejackets.
-
New Team NameYes, lets get back to the true premise of this thread....teams that need a name change.
Columbus Bluejackets to....Derechos????
Why would you want to change the name of the Bluejackets? A man with an appreciation of history such as you should recognize the significance and reason for the name Bluejackets.

Cribbs Role To Be Diminished This Year? The dumb kickoff rule has really diminished his role in the gameplan. It's one of the big advantages that we had over teams like the Steelers and Ravens in that our return game was better, and we had a better chance to control field position. When the NFL took away the return, they might as well kicked Cribbs out of the league. I feel like we need to keep him on offense, but DON'T force the whole "WildDawg" plays into the game. So many times I'd see Cribbs in the backfield, and we all know the draw is coming. Which is why the end result is always a 2 yard run. I think he's perfect for more of a screen pass or slant pattern, but not a deep threat. His strength is he can find open space after the catch, not before.
Excellent point! My thoughts exactly.

Cribbs Role To Be Diminished This Year? This is basically to give the Browns rookie WRs a chance to get in the game. We all know Cribbs is a decent reciever, but he's proven to be inconsistent over the years, not topping more than 40 receptions for a season.
The depth chart would feature Cribbs as a #4 reciever behind Little, Massaquoi, and Norwood/Cooper to recieve sufficient time. Maybe Travis Benjamin will be squeezed in there also at some point.
Cribbs will still remain the returner of kickoffs and punts, and will be starting on all aspects of the special teams unit.
I love Cribbs, but I also believe he is in a right place at #4 on the depth chart, he still can impact games by making our special teams unit sorta threatening.
Im also excited to see what Norwood, Cooper, and Benjamin can do this year. If Weeden has the accuracy and arm strength, these recievers could do some damage. I for one am most excited to see the recieving core play and develop this year. Holmgren took a big gamble not drafting a TOP 50 reciever, but his strategy seems more to be sticking with a core group of young guys, and wait for them to bloom. Hopefully our WR core has a couple flowers bloomin in it this fall...
Wasn't an argument similar to this made last year about this time?
Either way. Cribbs is not a real WR yes he is a incredible athlete but not a real WR. IMO his skills have been misused.

Revisionist HistoryEndymion said:
Say the NFL decided when the current CBA is up that enough is enough. They are getting sued by every former player for concussions and the NFLPA is demanding way too much. So in 2020 the NFL just ends. The public will still want football, and eventually a new league will form, we'll call it WFL (World Football League). The WFL will have less teams than the NFL and will struggle for some time attracting an audience. Assume that eventually catches on, and reclaims the popularity the NFL once had about 10-15 years down the road. They have a championship game called the "Madden Bowl" and a trophy called the EA Sports Golden Pigskin (GP).
At first everyone will be like, this GP means nothing the Lombardi Trophy (LT) was the "real" item of value. Eventually, as the WFL becomes more and more popular, the historical LT will diminish in value and glory (that it holds now) and the GP will replace it. Like the LT, the GP will be the penultimate goal/prize in professional football. Super Bowls of yore will fad to distant memory. They will become an interesting footnote for a few franchises. As long as the Madden Bowl is played, the GP will increase in value and importance. It's what's of value now, even though there was only one definitive winner in the predecessor league.
The Browns victories of yore were a foundation for the leagues of the present, but those victories are not of the same value as a Super Bowl victory. The Browns also played and won at a time of competing leagues, further diminishing the achievement. Further, the leagues the Brown's played in were absorbed the current league, aka the NFL. While you may not like the perception, the perception is the surviving league was more important than the league that died, even if the league that died had "better" teams or played "better" football.
Wouldn't fewer teams created out of the same available player pool naturally create teams with a higher overall skill level at any time?
