Independence is near Cleveland...and I don't remember this guy.
There is also and Idependence High School in columbus which he went to then went to the university of cincinnati.
Deangelo Smith was actually a brown last year for a brief period of time. He was signed at the end of the year when mangini was playing musical chairs with the bottom end of our roster when the injuries started to amount at the end of the year. I believe it was week 11 or 12 then was released a week later. He is a local boy from columbus, ohio i believe he went to Independence High School in Columbus then went to play at UC. Like ClevelandBigDawg said he is more of a bottom end of the roster guy if he sticks. Good news is more competition at the corner postition in training camp and another player who could help to make sure that we no longer have to see hank got beat or brandon Mac wear the orange and brown again.
Just saw schefter report that he is visiting with Kansas City on Wednesday. Interesting though he mentioned that the browns showed interest in trading for him earliar and that they did in fact contact the jags about acquiring him. Just thought it was interesting that he confirmed that we had contacted them before to trade with him and now that he has been released and could be had without giving up any draft picks probably means we are still somewhat interested. Biggest thing would probably be what his asking price is to sign. If we can get him for a bargain price then i would definately entertain him coming to cleveland. He would be a defensive end in our scheme.
Anyway rememebered this great old video of him that i thought was great and dug it up to put on here.
I question that as well, are you sure he said that he is more physical, or was he saying that he's not as physical as Revis because I thought I heard him being envious of Revis' physical play.Great to hear about all accounts (physical play, and 'Dawg-like' chatter)
Ya that is what was said. I think that what he was talking about though more specifically was up around the line of scrimmage helping against the run and being more physical than him in that department.
Joe Haden was giving an interview to espn recently and said some things that i loved to hear. Sounded a little cocky but at the same time sincere. I like My Db's to be like this. Some interesting statements were that he said he would be the best cover corner in the league. He said with respect to Revis whom he watches film on all the time and envisions himself modeling his game after he see's himself being just like him in many aspects. He said the differences between him and Revis is that his game is much more physical and is in your face. Basically he said that he likes to get right into them the minute they walk on the field when the game starts. That he likes to get really physical with recievers and that he likes to have a little fun and constantly talk with them and get in their head where as revis is more of the quiet type.
I dont know about you but this got me a little excited hearing him talk. We could use a little attitude and cockiness on our D. He seems to have a lot of swagger and a lot of class to go along with it. I Love it!
Hah, I feel the same way. You may be right that it is just his name sounding like a household name or something, but I too have that same hunch that for some reason this kid will be a gamer.
I agree some guys just have that name that just sounds good and just sounds like they are destined to be great. Larry Asante for some reason is one of those names and just sounds cool. whats better is his nickname is the Assasain! Cant think of a better nickname for a safety.
Steptoe is still a brown. He has not officialy been released yet. Still shows up on the current roster on the browns website and is listed as a brown on nfl web site. His situation is somewhat similar to what we dealt with with Bentley and Stallworth where we know they will be gone it just hasnt officially happened due to some technical things. Mccoy is probably waiting for mr. steptoe to officially be shown the door before he gets his college number if he so chooses. Though he did wear number 4 in high school. I dont know i dont put much stock into wiki when they post stuff early like this. Have seen them been wrong on things like this many times. Its not listed anywhere else and is more of a rumor. Should be official when rookies report on wednesday. Im not big or dont usually care what number a guy chooses. But ive always hated the number 18 on a QB. Plus we dont need anymore reminders of the failure number 18 Mr. Stallworth was for us. Based on that alone no brown should wear that number for quite a while.
he couldn't get a word in between gruden riding tebow's dick and steve young continuously blabbing bullshit. i know tom jackson was ready to wring young's neckas for the 2nd rounder i'd really like to see the FO finish what they started and draft mays at safety to solidy our once weak secondary. i think mangini and holmgren would be able to straighten the kid out if he really had a problem.
Im with you brother. If we dont like Mccoy in the second round im all for selecting mays and letting Mangini and Ryan have some fun with him. Did just hear on espn that they were projecting us to select mays.
I think Kam Chancellor would be a good third round pick for the Browns.. maybe, there are other safeties....but Brown moves to safety? Wow. Dynamic new secondary !
The Browns second pick, proving all my mocks completely doofus, except for the one or two I picked Haden, GGG
will be Colt. I have wanted an OT like Veldhees sp? ... but it seems that McCoy is meant to be a Cleveland Brown after all,
it seems Ballpeen has been right.
I thought he was very "short", and it seems he is actually 6' 3".
but, he has the arm Lefeavor sp? (it's early), Charlie Frye, etc, wishes they had.
I'm starting to figure that Holmgren and co, love this kid for GOOD REASON:
It's Colt McCoy, if he's even there:
I agree cal on your take on Mays. Those were kind of my feelings also on him and i too am not sure he is our front office's type of guy. As far as the hardwork goes i think he's one of the hardest workers in the draft when it comes to working out but i think the question on him for our front office is just how much of a student of the game is he? That i think is the big question on if they feel he will be a good fit. I do think though if he puts the time into his game and is willing to be coached up he is a great fit! We will see but i dont think it matters if Colt McCoy is on the board because i think he is almost definately ours if he is.
The other thing is this draft is so loaded at safety they can proabably wait till the 3rd or 5th also and still get a possible starter. As far as Kam Chancellor goes i have watched him a lot the last few years and always thought he would be a nice addition for us. But i havent been as high on him anymore after hearing most nfl scouts dont project him as a safety but as an undersized linebacker who needs to bulk up. He is projected to be a 5th or 6th rounder now due to the fact that most teams dont know if he will be a line backer or safety and his lack of speed in coverage. I think in the sixth or late 5th he is worth a chance but im not that big on him anymore. Another option at safety though that i wouldnt mind is major wright. Im starting to think that he may be a solid fit for us too.

Ive been thinking kind of the same thing. How awesome would it be to be able to pick up an early extra second round pick and keep ours. Land McCoy if Holmy really likes him as it seems to be the case and then use the other pick to help sure us the defense either at defensive end or Safety preferably! Talk about Happy Endings for everyone!!!! DQ and a pick or two are probably our pawn pieces to get this done. I say get it done Holmy!
The more and more i think about it the more i think i want mays really bad which surprises me because i wasnt that big on him before but now the circumstances have changed. With the talent at corner now we will be able to cheat a safety up a lot in the box. And how perfect could mays be for that role playing like a 5th linebacker which he already basically is but with the speed of a high end defensive back. With the mind of Ryan this would give him another nice piece. Im starting to think its the way we should go and would love to see it happen. I wouldnt mind seeing something happen at defensive end either!
As far as reciever goes i dont really want to spend our second round pick on a reciever. I hope we stay far far away from golden tate or benn for that reason. Plus anyway i think there are better options out there than these two anyway. Guys that i really like are Taylor Price, Carlton Mitchell, Andre Roberts, and Jordan Shipley, and Jacoby Ford. All could be taken in the second but more than likely at least two of these guys slip to the third. If we go reciever in the first three rounds i would really love to get one of these guys. My favorite being taylor price but he more than for sure will go in the second. Also a wild card reciever that i would like to pick up late in the draft is Armanti Edwards the QB turned reciever from App. State.

I should alter my terminology or at least my proposed definition of Franchise QB. Franchise QB's that have proven they can win the big game when the game is placed squarely on their shoulders. Yes I would consider Flacco a franchise QB, Palmer even though he can't muster a win when it matters most. You then have Matt Ryan, Rodgers etc. Yes I agree but there are only 4 QB's in the league currently with the hardware and the undeniable ability to win football games. As far as his value is considered no team in the NFL would be "taking a chance" by trading for Big Ben. He's not Pacman Jones or Micheal Vick. He can't keep his dick in his pants, all of which should all be corrected at this point considered the no doubt unexpected backlash. Teams want to say his value has decreased dramatically so they can rob him from the Steelers. The fact of the matter is this, the Rooney's aren't going to unload him for just a top 10 pick this year. They are fully aware that he's worth much more and a already went on the record in saying that he deserves a second chance and he's going to work to prove he deserves that chance. It was said in both Art Sr. and Art Jr's press conferences. He's not going anywhere. The Steelers are just putting the feelers out for a Hershel Walker esque trade, one that likely won't arrive. The end.
Im somewhat with you on the franchise qb deal now. Ben is definately a top qb in the league but i dont think there is a drastic difference between him and rodgers and other guys kind of in that same class that arent named brees, manning, and brady. I think the talent around him is what has helped him win those big games not that hes anymore valuable than the rest of the quality franchise tag QB's. He would be a chance. Obviously not by his physical attributes and what he does on the field but by his poor decisions and issues off the field he is a chance. If it was just one bad decision it would be one thing but now we are starting to see a history of bad decisions which means he hasnt learned from his mistakes yet. If you give up a lot for him then he gets caught again in another bad situation hes looking at big time trouble with mr. goodell.
I too find it hard to see him in another uniform but it sounds more and more like there is more than just smoke to these trade talks. They are actively shopping him and they arent asking for the farm from what reports are. Just a pick in the top 10 will do from what is being confirmed. Now if they can get two teams in a bidding war then maybe but that is unlikely going to happen for a guy who is skating on very thin ice.

Umm the Steelers were going to cut Holmes so the Steelers organization devalued Holmes all on their own. Plenty of people on this message board labeled it "the biggest rip off ever" so who the hell are you trying to fool? 4 Franchise QB's in the league and Ben is one of them. If he's traded for anything less it's highway robbery.
First there are more franchise quarterbacks in this league then just 4. You are kidding yourself. Look, to quote you you are "football Retarded" if you believe that. There are more than 4 in the afc alone. Second its all the other teams in the nfl that set the value for what benjamin is worth not the steelers. He has become damaged goods now that the dreaded charactar issues have piled up on him. No team in the NFL, (acception the raiders) will have him valued as being worth two first rounders and a current starting player. Now if i were a steeler fan and we were looking to shop our franchise quarterback i would want everything that i possibly could in return and would probably over value him too. But this is reality not what you would wish to have. Thats why from what schefter is reporting the steelers would want to trade him for a top ten pick and thats all in pretty much a heart beat. They realize what the realistic value is of him now. Now before everything then yes he would have been worth possibly 2 first rounders but now his value has decreased dramatically. A team that would take him on now would be taking a big chance.
Oakland, Buffalo, Jacksonville seem to be the likely candidates. Oakland seems like the perfect fit. I could easily see Oakland or jacksonville with buffalo being a dark horse.
Schefter seems to think something may get done before or during the draft.
Schefter reports on Espn that Pittsburgh is trying to trade benny boy for a top 10 first round pick now. Says that if they can get a top ten pick he will more than likely be shipped out. Very very interesting.
Bout what he should have gone for. Wouldnt even come close to calling it a steal. Worth a chance, yes, depends on what you are trying to get him for. If you need a returner than this it is a good deal. If you are expecting him to be a receiver then probably wont work out very well. Ginn is not an NFL caliber reciever. You might be able to put him on the field a few downs and run the deep ball and use him as a gimmick guy but as a true reciever he is a liability. He has always been an athlete with raw receiving skills that never amounted to much. Glad we passed. I think our front office knows as far as ginn the receiver goes we can do a lot better! Now if we needed a returner then yes he would be worth a 5th but we obviously dont need that.
Here ya go. Im all for giving ginn a second chance to see if he can turn things around if it costs us a 5th rounder or less but here are some good reasons why the phins have all but given up on him as a receiver for them. He is like their braylon edwards when it comes to the big time dropsies minus the charactar issues. Seen enough of this with braylon. Funny Video with fitting song though!
HAHA, spot on.. yea just look at our late round picks and how many of them are still around or making a difference.. ie "big hitter" Beau Bell, "great receiving tight end" Martin Rucker, Hubbard... a 5th for Ginn would be a steal, hes better than any receiver we have now. but I think that picking one that we really like in the 3rd would be ideal
A 5th for ginn would be about equal value considering what he has done in his first three years i wouldnt quite call it stealing but a 5th would definately be worth a chance on him. You'd have a hard time though finding one team in the nfl that would give up more than a fourth or a fifth for ginn. His performance through three years in the nfl has been average to below average at best and a borderline starting receiver at best. Could he change things around sure. But do you want to count on that if that is our only upgrade at the wide receiver position. I would take Massoquai over Ginn any day of the week as far as ginn being better than any receiver we currently have. I agree with you though on taking a receiver in the third. I would much rather if we are just planning on adding one more receiver draft a receiver in the third than trade a pick for ginn. Its not so much that i wouldnt trade a 5th for ginn. Its more that i would hope that we would have our sights set on something better at improving our receiving core.
