please wonderlic..
lot of HOF qb's had low wonderlic scores BUT does show if you can learn a playbook your 1st year...real test is personality and vision very few of these kidsacan a pass to a te in the red zone in the backof the field...even fewer have the touch to make that pass and fewer still have the guts to try
IMO my world Peterman, Watson and Mahomes comes closest in a bad draft year.
my top 3 on my board
#1 Allen
#2 Lattimore
#3 Garrett
agree with Sapp elite pass rusher if you are a 4-3 team and need a rde but a one trick pony
Solomon Thomas DE/DT Stanford was a 10 at the combine but only produced slightly above avg at Stanfordf...sort small for a dt,doesn't run an elite arc at de so I'd guess solid 5 tech with avg production
Thanks for the reply... it helped...
On "character"... what sources are available to the general public that you use for your determinations?
I always start at a players bio before I ever look at them playing...incredible amount of info...any relatives played in NFL/NBA? college major, any academic awards. leadership awards...then I do a search looking for interviews either on internet or on youtube. quick way to find if a guy is an extrovert or introvert...how verbal/quick thinking the kids are...instagram is gives you a peak in what these kids think is important. Some show their degrees others show off their tatoos. ditto facebook or twitter I always look to see who are their friends on social media because we are our friends
ends up a lot of work but some of these kids are so special as people you find yourself rooting for them wherever they end up...just so much more fun then just looking at some highlight tape...also want to had if you have time to watch entire games watch how they react when a teammate makes a play. Have seen some olineman with character issues run 40 yards to high five a teammate who just scored... Had Roby Rated higher then D Dennard because of character. Saw Roby run his butt off to catch a wr on the other side of the field never saw anything like that with Dennard
don't confuse high character players with passionate players. both will succeed in the NFL just some guys are borderline nuts who love the game....Foster is one. He is football..like watching Butkus ...Westbrook is another. The crazies jump out at you when they watch them play...Stefon Diggs succeed as a 5th rd pick..very rare..but team captain, kicked out one game for hitting a ref, refused to shake hands with Penn st players at coin toss...good not great combine but played, lives, with a chip on his shoulder. Love guys like him...
passion and character both matter...like to find high character kids with passion but sometimes just get passion
top 300 is based on ranking/character more a generic ranking
top 60 is based on pff stats who end up becoming above avg starters each year and the round they were drafted.in. maybe 20 in rd one maybe 20 in rds 2 &3 and 20 from rds 4-udfa will ever become above avg starters after rd 4/udfa might only have 5/6 kids who will avg becoming above avg starters out of 700 kids...look to see what traits previous later rd picks had that helped them make it and look for those traits in this years draft
some of those QB's will be drafted higher then Peterson but IMO has a better chance to develop into a solid starter...best passer in tight windows and a personality that is very similar to Kurt Warner
called Dak Prescott a foxhole player and a winner last year and had a 4/5 qb's ranked higher
http://www.nfldraftresearch.com/
do a board based on character/passion...have coached for over 20 years..son was an all American in soccer just know the best athlete isn't the one who usually succeeds in sports
In my world character/passion equal 50% or more who succeeds or fails...spend that much time reading bios, looking at college majors, watching interviews and looking at prospect facebook/instagram posts to put together my list.....expect to find some players out of orders vs other boards that just use game tape
also post my list of the 60 who will succeed..1/3 of 1st will fail ., 1/2 of 2nd and it only gets worse..
Well it didn't take long to go from "hey guys, what do you think about this?" to "browns suck they should do my idea!"
respect is respect..saying shut the fuck up or calling posters McFly defines posters and boards,,,
obviously there are some internet tough guys on this board.who lack the intelligence or maturity to have serious discussions without calling others names..
also not a football fanatic..fanaticism.in all it's forms is scary. do know logic and logic says if the top qb's in the draft or available in a trade have mid/ late 1st rd value and you need a qb then move to the back and draft/trade for one.
feel free to check the Rams record the last 3 years after drafting a HOF DT. Real discussion on this board should be on Gararppola or McCarron. or another backup. like Foles career 56 td with only 27 int and has had only one bad year in his 5 year career.
where are the draft guys? none on this board? Davis Webb? If Jackson liked Goff he should love Brad Kaaya..basically the same player with Brad Kaaya having bigger hands Peterman has some Kurt Warner in his game...maybe the best small window passer in this draft.
watched Goff all year..those small hands are an issue..really struggles throwing the ball on the move or when his feet aren't set. So skinny that he was knocked out of one game why an average hit and almost knocked out of another. Shy kid with an Indifferent work ethic...he has a long way to avoid being a bust
reading a few threads that gipper guy should be booted off along with a few others...worthless and mean spirited. They remind me of the fake tough guy in the bar in Tombstone that drove out all the regulars. Mods need to do something..sure a lot of normal, intelligence posters avoid this place but that's their problem. not mine .
last I looked QB's are sort of important...and this draft is filled with mid rd qb prospects and will likely need a late 1 for Garrappola..trading down for a mid #1 makes sense to fill your greatest need
Donald didn't make the Rams a winning team and neither did Bosa make San Diego a Super Bowl team..till you fidna QB the Browns will keep losing.
my question was fair but received a lot of scary stupid answers..hopefully the idiots will post elsewhere or I will
1. Pat Elfein Ohio St ..6'2 1/4 300 3X 1st team at guard moved to center to help his draft stock. every year get 3/4 players who get a WOW! out of me Elfein this year. Junkyard dog, mean run blocker..loves football and hitting. loves to finish. quick feet. solid not great in pass pro. all academic/team captain. I'll be giving him a late 1st rd/2nd grade....only drawback a tad short for a center...
2. Jon Toth Kentucky 6047/308. majoring in mechanical engineering. very bright day one starter 4 year starter senior bowl confident/self assured flexible athlete runs well stout vs run/bull rush
3. Ethan Pocic LSU 6'6 309 like don't love Pocic from LSU at a tad under 6'6 an outlier at the center position and it shows on the field. taller players struggle to collect their feet in tight areas. See that in his game..still talented just don't like outliers as a rule still very solid vs run and pass
4.Tyler Orlosky Pittsburgh 6'3 295 . He gave up just one sack, one hit and four hurries during the entire 2015 season and his pass blocking efficiency of 99.0 ranked first in the nation among returning centers.per pff elite person/character elite production, team leader very bright. downside avg athletically at best..thick trunk can't be bull rushed
Chase Roullier Wyoming 6'3 1/2 323 very smart solid center/also plays guard
1.Cam Robinson improved in pass blocking in 2016.perfect build. strong, very competitive kid with all pro upside
2.Ryan Ramczyk OT Wisconsin tall, very comfortable in pass pro..quick feet lacks upper body strength so struggles in run game and vs bull rushes
3.Garett Bolles OT Utah 25 years old..lacks ideal height but junkyard mean as a player
4.Antonio Garcia OT Troy solid LT prospect good week at Senior Bowl long arms good feet
5.Dion Dawkins OT Temple early starter at RT big body, thick trunk very smart little top heavy and loses balance at times
1. Dan Feeney Indiana 6040/304 w/ 10.25" hand and 33.13" arm 305 started 45 career games and has allowed just two sacks (3,278 snaps).elite character/brains and production 1st tem All American 4 year starter Richie Incognito type blocker/build strong hands arms..locks onto defender and it's over very clean looks to be an all pro type player
2. Forrest Lamp elite LT kicks inside..not a sure thing inside lacks power/punch at guard but elite pass protector
3. Dion Dawkins Temple Temple 6'4 5 320 criminal justice major all academic LT prospect Senior Bowl solid OT prospect but feet might force him to RT/G strong hands finishes blocks. little top heavy/loses balance
4.Taylor Moton 6'5 327 Western Michigan heavy legged RT will play G at Senior Bowl. likely best at guard smart business major
5. Damien Mama USC 6'4 325 junior big time upside powerful, loves hitting and good in pass pro sleeper
6 Dorian Johnson Pittsburgh 6'5 300 runs well competitive lack strong hands wonderlic?
7. Jermaine Eluemunor Texas A&M 6'3 1/2 330 played RT in college senior season after rg junior JC kid quick feet for a big man wonderlic?
He's an intriguing pick. Still have to look up more about him.
What's his biggest flaw? Best attribute?
slow release...not mobile in that regard like Sean Mannion of the Rams another uber productive gym rat who received 2nd rd grades from scouts as a junior.
. best attributes are also like Mannion, hard working, smart, gym rat with perfect size and and solid arm..what he does very well and better then all the qb's in this draft is screens....has a real feel for it...underrated skill lot of qb's struggle with it..sucking dline in, waiting, throwwing from different angles and leading the RB. Goff couldn't do it when he was at Cal.
from St Louis and was wondering any talk in Cleveland about moving down? as good as Garrett is adding more picks sure makes sense. Thanks
from St Louis..Williams does a great job of coaching his system based on the talent level of his players..changes game by game based on opponent and his injuries. also coaches his players to play chippy or outright dirty..lot of personal fouls, late hits...and head shots to qb's
very good but not great D coordinator
I have read and heard a lot of speculation about this year's draft. Most people seem to think that this years draft is deep on the defensive side; but, how good are they really? My opinion is that this was not a very talented year in college which is why there were so many upsets and ranked teams falling back; while, unranked teams passed them up. The DBs looked good this year but is it because they were that good or because the receivers and quarterbacks they played against were not as good as years before this last year. I still think that DB is one of the deepest and most skilled for this draft; but, their competition makes me worry if they will do as well at the pro level. What do you think?
wr, te and cb..crazy talent this year...lot of solid backup rb's awful at OT and QB below avg dt
Don't forget Pettine's first year as HC the Browns had a 7-9 season (nothing great but it's the high water mark in recent memory).
Also, keep an eye on the Farmer draft picks and see how many of them have a great career in the NFL.
Most of them will be selling insurance soon.
other then Manziel(had as a 2nd rd pick) thought Farmer ,made solid picks
like I said you x-coach sucked
Pettine was the problem..watched the Rams play the Browns and was shocked at how slow/poorly coached the Browns were when the Rams played them
his my way or the highway bs went out 3 decades ago...Carroll has them doing tm before games why Pettine refuses to play the players who are athletic enough to actually have a chance of winning....Madden would play the crazies who were cut from other teams as long as they weren't in jail on Sunday
good news is Jackson will play the crazies...and the Browns will win
Recently the media has gone out of their way to print as many stories about Justin Gilbert as humanly possible AND the coaches have made every effort to make sure he knows that he has a "clean slate". Many of the stories mention the previous regime's method of "tough love" and how it didn't work, and how some of the departed veteran players practiced a similar style of trying to whip him into shape.
But here's the thing, where there's smoke there's fire. I've read multiple reports of Gilbert adjusting his stance to help with his back-peddling skill, and Gilbert appears to be taking to his new coaches like he never did with the others. Perhaps the only good thing to come out of Joe Haden's unforeseen ankle surgery is the fact Gilbert gets to take virtually ALL of the first team reps and gets to work against the best WR's we have (which isn't saying much at the moment). It's safe to say that our new GM and coaching staff isn't keeping players that they don't think help our team in the long run, so if they REALLY didn't feel Gilbert had potential, you have to think they would have cut him long ago. They have made multiple mentions of Gilbert's attitude and work ethic, and said that he has done "everything that we have asked him to do." No reports of being late, nothing about a bad attitude, and virtually nothing negative at all.
Gilbert isn't our new regime's boy, and they have no reason to pump him up. I'm starting to think the reports are true, and the kid actually has a chance. Nobody ever doubted his physical skill set, and the popular opinion is that Gilbert now feels loved and part of the team. Just think about what Gilbert could actually mean to our team for a moment. The #8 pick of the draft that basically provided nothing last year, but could potentially START this season. It would be like getting another first round pick this year because let's face it...most if not ALL of us wrote him off after last year...and why wouldn't we?
We still have much to prove at the safety position, but if Gilbert can progress, we start to get some depth at a VERY important position (CB). All of the sudden we have K'Waun Williams, Joe Haden, Tramon Williams, Justin Gilbert, Pierre Desir, Gaines, and a free agent that escapes my memory. We obviously need Haden to make a strong comeback, but it's not like that is impossible.
Listen, we've all heard this rhetoric before, and we Browns fans are rightfully in a place of "show me before I believe". But this feels different. I'm reading too many articles, too many quotes, and hearing too many good things about Gilbert for it just to be "preseason bluster". He must really be showing something, and lord knows we need a boost. This kind of thing is how bad teams start to make the turn. They have several things go their way at once, and different aspect of the team begin to come together. For us, it could be the triumphant return of Joe Haden coupled with the emergence of Justin Gilbert and K'Waun Williams able to avoid concussions. That has the potential to be one helluva corner trio.
I know we're all sick of hearing things like "potential" and "there's a new attitude in Cleveland". I am too, but I just don't feel like being negative right now. We need an astounding amount of different team dynamics to change and go our way before we're competitive this year, and we all realize that. What I don't think people realize is, those dynamics CAN GO OUR WAY. Gilbert CAN turn into the corner we need, Pryor CAN develop into a red zone target that we sorely lack, Orchard, Ogbah, Kruger, Nassib, and Dez Bryant CAN GET TO THE QB, and RG III or McCown CAN get us enough points.
A new coach can go a long way in terms of reaching players, and Gilbert appears to be a guy who needed someone like Hue Jackson. Our team getting a new talented cornerback basically out of thin air would go a LONG way in helping a defense with a ton of needs. We won't know a damn thing until the pads come on, and we have a LONG time to wait for that. But I have a feeling that Gilbert has a new lease on life, and while I admit to being skeptical, I have to admit that my feelings are changing. Do not be surprised to see Gilbert play well in training camp. I'm NOT saying the guy will be picking off every pass and turn into Deion Sanders, but I'm fairly certain Gilbert will be a guy we can count on this year.
from St Louis and don't follow the Browns as a fan..but do follow the draft very closely...your x-hc WAS the problem...period
sually go to 300 but bad draft this year

as a St Louisan watched Snead closely...at the top always goes for the most athletic player...that would be Wentz
Goff would help sell tickets but against the grain..hope you guys draft Goff or tarde down a little and end up with Lynch and extra picks...even Jones at the top of the 2nd
Exactly my point. In the very same article, read about Wentz - who was given COMPLETE control pre-snap.
Goff's own OC admitted that Goff was allowed to change between only two plays pre-snap, the called play and one alternate. Conversely, Wentz was given carte blanche to change any play, at any given time, to any other play he wanted.
Goff's own OC admitted that Goff adjusted his protection on "about 10%" of plays. Conversely, in the very same article, Wentz is credited with changing his protection on 100% of plays.
Goff really only had full control to change routes on designated passing plays.
So, if you want your quarterback to walk to the line, read man off 2-deep shell coverage with a blitzing weakside OLB and then call off his run play, slide his protection to the blitz, audible his slot WR to a deep post, hot the TE, and send his RB on block and release...don't expect Goff to be able to do that off the bat.
sure it will take him the exact same time it will take Wentz and maybe one week more for Lynch and Jones......that ain't a reason to want Wentz
Browns are in a major rebuild and will be lucky to win 5 games....you want the best qb over the next 10 years if you think that's Wentz ok but say so
Marino fell because he was dumb, Bradshaw was Bradshaw, Reeves questioned Elway's ability to learn a playbook and Favre spent his 1st season drunk in Atlanta and was never accused of being a brainiac....forget the wonderlic guys it'sall ego/intstincts for qb's
yeah to the other stuff the last couple weeks before the draft get old...think all fans(and teams) are ready now
know I'm tired of looking at videos/reading interviews
No....
..Bradshaw played terrible for a couple of years.... but then he rebounded.
and, it's good to know that Goff had more responsibility at the los. They are both
very, very smart.
Wentz is still my pick.
my question would be why sign RG3 if you planned on drafting the most pro ready qb?(your words) RG3 doesn't play well with strangers or other qb's
looks like RG3 starting, backed up by McCown with a high pick developmental qb. are there a lot of trade down rumors in Cleveland?
