Terry Francona will miss Friday’s series opener against the Tigers due to a minor medical procedure. DeMarlo Hale will manage in Francona’s absence. Francona is expected to return to the team on Saturday.José Ramírez was getting imaging on his right shin after Thursday’s 4-2 loss. The Guardians will have more information on his status Friday. After fouling a ball directly off the shin in the eighth inning of the game, Ramírez opted to finish the at-bat and ripped an RBI single to right. He was immediately replaced by a pinch-runner. Francona was impressed by Ramírez’s ability to drive in the run despite being in obvious pain. “It shows he’s not only really good,” said Francona, “but also really tough.” -- Anthony Castrovince
