  • Not much good has ever come from a Browns visit to Seattle. Get out of there healthy.

  • You would like to see the starters look good for at least one series on O and D to go into week 1 on a positive note.

Not sure what the status is on the starters playing or not. Stefanski seemed to say the starters will play, but wouldn't say if Watson will play.

Not that anyone here cares, but in Green Bay it will depend on how the joint practice with the Ravens goes tomorrow, for whether the starters play at all on Saturday

Personally I would prefer they all play some. I think it would do Watson good to get some live game reps. There was no joint practice this week and "general arm soreness" should not be an excuse not to see the field.

Yeah, I just think Stefanski is ultra-cautious and is looking for excuse to sit Watson. We shall see.

Cowboys coming to town on the 8th. You don't want to start the season 0-1.

Same reason you are here. To talk football.

I go on several NFL Fan forums. Was actually recently on one of the Seahawks boards discussing how Mike Macdonald was handling the last preseason game.

If I trigger you then put me on ignore. Simple.

    Have a nice life! Toodle-Loo!

  • Here’s a little cut and paste job from a recent article in the Athletic.

Seven Browns Players to watch in preseason finale vs. Seahawks.

The Cleveland Browns will play some starters in their preseason finale in Seattle on Saturday night. It will be well into Sunday morning before the team returns to Cleveland and the folks in charge start to finalize the initial 53-man roster ahead of Tuesday’s deadline.

There aren’t a bunch of open spots on this roster, but injuries have provided more opportunities over the past four weeks for some of the team’s younger players. And while the Browns will dress all their healthy players for the preseason finale, they still won’t play everyone — and will focus largely on the backups trying to lock up roster spots and emerging players trying to make a final impression.

Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said after the last practice of training camp that he’s not ready to make any final decisions or announcements on playing time for Saturday. Specifically, he was addressing the uncertainty at quarterback after arm soreness led Stefanski to sit Deshaun Watson for most of Wednesday’s session. Stefanski said the move was made out of caution, but Watson threw in a team drill early in practice and only missed one team drill all of camp when participating. Watson was given one full day off from throwing in early August as part of the long-term plan of recovering from season-ending shoulder surgery last November.

Cleveland’s offensive line shortage caused Stefanski to hedge from his earlier announcement that Watson was in the plans to play for the first time this preseason. It’s unlikely that the Browns would play stalwarts like Myles Garrett, David Njoku, Amari Cooper and Joel Bitonio, and Pro Bowl cornerback Denzel Ward remains in concussion protocol. But most starters will play at least a little, and we don’t yet know if the starting quarterback will be Watson or Jameis Winston, who took the No. 1 reps after Watson left practice Wednesday.

Who are some off-the-radar names you should know ahead of the preseason finale? Which players might be playing for jobs — with the Browns or elsewhere across the league — this weekend? Here’s a brief list of players to watch Saturday and track in the days that follow.

    Germain Ifedi, OT

With starting left tackle Jedrick Wills Jr.still on the physically unable to perform list after knee surgery last December, Ifedi has become the Browns’ No. 1 left tackle for now. Ifedi has played in 102 career games and made 83 starts, but he’s never played left tackle. He played guard for the Browns in the spring after he signed in April, and until nine days ago he was switching between left and right tackle on the No. 2 and No. 3 offenses.

James Hudson III was the No. 1 left tackle for most of camp, but he has an ankle injury of unknown severity; it’s severe enough that he’s out at least this week. Ifedi might have been making a real roster push in the early part of August, but now he’s at least potentially in line to play left tackle in a real game. The Browns’ first four games are against top pass rushers Micah Parsons, Josh Hines-Allen, Brian Burns and Maxx Crosby. Every full-speed rep will be a valuable one for Ifedi.

    Lorenzo Thompson, OT

The undrafted rookie from Rhode Island is second in line at left tackle and likely in position to at least land a spot on the practice squad. Thompson had never been to an NFL game before he played in the preseason opener against the Green Bay Packers. The trip to Seattle will be the longest one he’s ever taken. Cleveland is the furthest west he’s been to this point, and Thompson said he chose the Browns after going undrafted because the team showed interest in him throughout the process. Thompson always knew he might have to go the long way to stick in the NFL, but injuries have presented him with an opportunity to show he’s worth further development.

    Jameis Winston, QB

Maybe he was going to start this game anyway. Certainly, Winston has impressed the Browns with his leadership and unselfishness since the spring. And while the obvious goal is for Winston to never have to play in the regular season, the 2015 No. 1 pick has to prepare as if he’s going to be needed. The Winston experience in training camp included the occasional perfectly placed laser of a throw and occasional wild miss, but when Winston jams one into traffic, he seems to believe it’s going to land in the proper hands. The Browns trust in Winston to handle the huddle for the No. 1 offense when called upon. They just hope Watson will be ready to play when things really count.

    Kahlef Hailassie, CB

Hailassie is making the team. He’s spent the back half of camp playing with the starters at outside cornerback, and he’s at least in line for real snaps when the regular season begins. The Browns didn’t claim Hailassie until late August last year, so he was still getting comfortable when he saw spot duty as an undrafted rookie on a new team in 2023. His acquisition just over a year ago is a reminder that while an established team like the Browns probably isn’t going to be looking to make four or five additions around the final cutdown/first waiver window, a surprise move could be coming — and that sometimes the best scouting comes from an up-close view in the preseason or joint practices.

    Jamari Thrash, WR

The fifth-round rookie has had three catches in each of the first two preseason games, and he’s been getting reps with the No. 1 offense this week with Cooper and David Bell out of practice. Thrash seems to be playing with more confidence and consistently finding holes in the defense. Stefanski said Thrash is a player “who’s progressing. He’s still a rookie, he’s going to make mistakes, but I think he continues to get better with more exposure.” It’s hard to view Thrash as one of the best 53 right now, but if he continues proving to be reliable during game settings, he could make the active roster.

    Jowon Briggs, DT

The Browns made a bit of a surprising pick in the seventh round in April with Briggs, considering their draft started with the selection of defensive tackle Mike Hall Jr. But the Browns not only want quality depth, they want different styles. Hall is a pure pass rusher, while Briggs is a people-mover — and veterans Shelby Harris, Maurice Hurst II and Quinton Jefferson are all signed only for 2024. From a body-type standpoint, Briggs is most like the Browns’ top defensive tackle, Dalvin Tomlinson, who’s spent all of camp rehabbing from arthroscopic knee surgery. If Cleveland thinks Tomlinson will be limited early in the season, it may have to keep Briggs — and play him right away, too.

Hurst is dealing with an undisclosed injury. Assuming he’s going to be OK, it might come down to either Briggs or 2023 third-round pick Siaki Ika for the last spot in the defensive tackle group. Both Briggs and Ika were playing on the No. 3 defense and getting scout team reps in the final open practice of camp Wednesday, so neither is guaranteed anything. Defensive tackles Sam Kamara and Chris Williamshave also impressed in different parts of camp, and both are practice squad candidates but are auditioning for the entire league Saturday night.

    Aidan Robbins, RB

The undrafted rookie power back scored a touchdown in the preseason opener, and he’s in line to get a Saturday night showcase. The Browns were already short-handed at running back before Pierre Strong Jr. was taken to the hospitalafter suffering a rib contusion Wednesday, so Robbins figures to play at least a half — and maybe more — against the Seahawks.

Veteran backs Nick Chubb and Nyheim Hines remain sidelined while rehabbing from knee surgery. Jerome Ford is the No. 1 back, and D’Onta Foreman has returned from a neck injury to show he’s going to be in the rotation. But even if Strong gets back soon and can play in September, Robbins can still show he’s at least worthy of a practice squad spot and further development. If Strong misses any significant time, the Browns might have to re-think things and pursue outside help at running back and in the return game. Strong is one of the team’s fastest players and best overall special-teamers.

"Lombardo" Ohh, burn? What are you, 12?

You will learn when you grow up..that you have to earn respect to get it.

I do respect the legacy of Paul Brown. As I respect the Browns franchise. Been some pitfalls along the way, but all in all a quality franchise.

Just saying it doesn't compare to the Green Bay Packers. Winningest team in the history of the league. Sustained success like that is unmatched.

Should be fun Saturday against the Ravens..I will be there at 8:30 a.m. drinking a Bloody Mary and setting up the tailgate. Love the noon kickoffs.

Hope both teams come out of it healthy.

    Here's a crazy story.

    Packers @Browns 2017. The infamous 0-16 season.

We are tailgating at our usual spot. A group of young Packer fans comes by, they join us. They were all pretty cool it seemed.

These fans ended up right by my son's seats. When you're 0-12, there's seats available on the secondary market.

So it's 21-7 Browns in the 4th Q. The Packers fans are of course restless, they don't want their team to be the Browns' victim of course.

Ok, Deshone Kizer starts Kizer-ing. Packers cut it to 21-14. Browns punt. First play from scrimmage, defensive PI. Next play, defensive holding. Tables are turning. Alcohol is a factor...next thing you know, security is up in our section...guess who called them? Yeah, Packers fans....after we fed 'em, had a good time with booze etc.

Never ever in my life did I hate GB. Until that day. They were welcomed to our tailgate, probably paid $20 for $50 seats, and called security on Browns fans in our own stadium?

Probably too broad of a brush but it wasn't a good look for "cheese heads."

Of course, Browns lose in OT on another Kizer-ing moment.

The Packers have multiple head coaches with quality resumes. Even look at Matt LaFleur's record against some of the Browns coaches.

Again, both legendary franchises. We don't need to have a pissing contest.

Sounds like young wannabe Packers fans to me. There are a lot of those at away games. I've been bleeding Green and Gold for over 50 years. I know a real Packers fan from a wannabe. And your story has wannabe written all over it.

wow you sure in a state of denial, Lets take a closer look at the numbers shall we ?

Paul Brown was 338-127-15 Thats (72.0%) He won 7 league championships (4 in the AAFC and 3 in the NFL).He also won A National  Championship while at Ohio Statte. He also won 4 High School national championships and 7  state championships.

Now Vince, well you got me there he doe's have a higher winning % at 73.8 but in far less games. 146 games coached .

If you want to look at games coached, look at Curly Lambeau: 229-124-22. He also played 10 years before he became head coach.

The Packers have multiple head coaches with quality resumes. Even look at Matt LaFleur's record against some of the Browns coaches.

Again, both legendary franchises. We don't need to have a pissing contest.

quick question, You married to a steeler fan ?  Oh I forgot to mention Paul Brown doe's have a franchise with his namesake. But that's O.K. the green bay lombardi's really doesn't have a good ring to it.

Thing is they were from NE Ohio. A side effect from all the losing the Browns have done since Modell moved to Ratbirds City is some locals gave up.

I'm like you. Went to my 1st game in 1971 at CLE Stadium.

    Right.

Remember though (please), we are jaded around here. Lousy ownership since 1963 will do that to you lol, and the constant reminders of "never been to a Super Bowl," while our whole division has been to it, and the damn Ratbirds won it twice. (Tagliabue was so upset that the City of Cleveland got the team back, I think that's why he put the Rats in our division (twice a year we have to see that crap, it's not easy, I'll never get over it).
