How many games will Watson last?
-
DTR can't be worse than watching this guy shit in my cheerios every game he plays.
I don't know, after they screwed Baker Mayfield, something inside of me died. I barely follow along anymore.
I never thought it would happen... but I can't even stand Madden. I may be too far gone. Maybe it was all a dream...
but there's a whisper on the wind ~~~ it's saying something ~~~ it's saying chubb, yes! that's it, it's saying Nick Chubb.
Play DTR and let Chubb get back in there. I don't know how you could even think about a new stadium when the guys in charge can't even manage the football team correctly.
Let's trade Watson for a happy ending and rebuild the offense with somebody who is not washed up. It's a shame too because I could have watched Baker for the next 10 years win or lose and it wouldn't matter. I know he's somebody who understands the game, where to go with the ball, and will give us a chance, rain or shine. With Watson it's like I don't think it's he actually washed up but maybe more like he never had it. I think the team around him and his athletic ability were the perfect storm at that time in the NFL. Now he seems super vanilla. and not even with the vanilla bean specks, just walmart bucket vanilla... with a flimsy red handle and a little crack... and freezer burned...
I'm going to go with he's gone before the trade deadline. They'll eat his contract for a 2nd or 3rd rounder. Ugh. What's Colt McCoy up to?
Great to hear from you.
Thankfully, Zomblow and Hoorta no longer shit all over this place, and people are again free to express themselves without bullshit bans and censorshop.
Talking about Baker for sure would have gotten you attacked by those two assholes.
The Browns deflated many fans in letting Baker go, but you should not feel bad because, it isn't a feeling caused by worship of a single player, it is because we have ownership who just does not understand the bond we have to this team. Getting rid of Mayfield was just another in a long line of stupid, disrespectful moves.
Regarding Chub; I feel they should have released him after he got hurt. The offense sits limp awaiting his return, and at 28, with his knee being exploded twice, there is no possibility of him returning with the same punch he once had.
I believe this will be his final season.
We will see.

Looks like old Zomblo is still lurking- as you just got a kiddie timeout. As I alluded to in the other thread- No moderation eventually equals anarchy. As the way in the past USENET devolved into. BTW- I well remember we got Ghoolie a treasured "Kook of the Month" award along with the memorable posters Admiral Meowcat, and Copyright Flame Giant.
But I digress... Po, glad to see you again and another part of the reason I'm not posting much is I feel the same way as you do. Just lost my interest after 60+ years of watching crappy Browns football. I still have my season tickets, but I don't know for how much longer, the ever increasing extortion for them is pricing me out of the market. Taking the trip up to Cleveland to see the game live now costs at least $500 bucks- and yeah- to the goober who mocks me in that regard- that can buy a LOT of wine.
Now, regarding Baker- we've been down that road far too many times PO. He's one of the very few successful reclamation projects in the NFL. Needed to grow up after getting ditched by the Browns, and then the Panthers. Really... you don't think that the guy who had GF issues, and then seen swigging a 1.75 liter Don Julio straight out of the bottle at 7AM didn't have some problems? Yeah, I threw up a little when I checked his stats this year. But that ship has sailed, we've beat that dead horse too many times.
And regarding Chubb- I really do fear Ghoolie may be right about him. That's the second time he's had knee surgery, and the second one was even more extensive than the first one.
Finally- Watson had better start playing like the the franchise quarterback he's being paid to be, or it's going to be a LONG season. Terry Pluto wrote a schating review of the Giant's game... Hope it's not blocked... https://www.cleveland.com/browns/2024/09/browns-offense-is-nearly-unwatchable-no-excuse-for-that-terry-pluto.html

I can only imagine how much that trip would cost if they actually build the dome in Brookpark!?
Season ticket prices will be bananas.

The #Browns are not the only team whose large investment at QB isn’t paying off. Here’s an NFL reality check for the QB position:
-—————
Jaguars paid Trevor Lawrence $275M ($55M average), and they’re 0-8 in their last eight games.
Bengals paid Joe Burrow $275M ($55M average), and he’s finished 50% of his career on IR and the Bengals are 0-3 to start the season.
Dolphins and Packers both paid their QBs $55M/year and both QBs are currently injured and not playing.
Chargers paid Justin Herbert $52.5M/year just to hire a run-heavy coach. Plus, Herbert continues to suffer and potentially miss time with injuries.
Eagles paid Jalen Hurts $51M/year, and he’s been extremely hot and cold. Hurts is currently T-3rd most INTs in 2024.
Broncos traded 2 first-round picks, 2 seconds and more for Russell Wilson. They’re currently paying $53M for Wilson to be the backup QB in Pittsburgh.
49ers traded 3 first-round picks to get Trey Lance. He made 4 starts.
Panthers traded 2 firsts, 2 seconds and D.J. Moore for Bryce Young. He was benched after 2 games this season.
Going back further, Eagles paid Carson Wentz $32M/year for 4 years in 2019. He was replaced by Jalen Hurts less than 2 years later.
Rams paid Jared Goff $33.5M/year for 4 years in 2019. Two years later, they traded Goff and 2 first-round picks for Matthew Stafford.
-—————
The bottom line is the QB position is the most important position in sports, and teams will do some pretty wild things at the mere chance of getting it right.
Hindsight is always 20/20, but when teams makes these decisions, they’re making their moves for the ultimate upside. More times than not, it doesn’t work the way they hoped.
But that doesn’t mean you quit trying. -

Purdy has a far better and intact OL. He has enough time back there to make soup from scratch. Our QB is lucky to even get 2 seconds with this poorly conceived and now replete with injuries sham of an OL.

Shit happens. This is a piece intended to make Browns fans agonizing over Watson sleep better at night.
The only one near the same level as the Browns debacle was Denver with Russell Wilson.
Except that Denver didn’t help build a Super Bowl contender in Houston .
Except that Denver didn’t take on a criminal inundated with legal matters who never wanted to be in Denver in the first place.
Yes, it doesn’t mean you quit trying. For this franchise this means not to quit trying being a respected organization, rather than continue being the most ridiculed franchise in the history of professional sports.

I agree the Browns should draft and develop "their guy." But until then I am riding with Deshaun, in my somewhat slight support of the Browns
Not sure Purdy is a "star." Just a cat that benefits from being in Kyle Shanahan's offense.
Interesting take. Especially considering all the offensive philosophy overlap from Shanny to Lefleur.
I assume that means you don't believe Love is a 'Star' because he benefits from having similar coaching and structure then?

Well, I do think there are benefits to being in LaFleur's offense. But I don't think we would argue over the fact that J-Love is far more talented than Purdy. And J-Love could flourish in any offense, while Purdy could not.

Well you'll be riding DeSuck to a 6-11 record or worse..
So, the Browns the fortunes are all dependent on Watson? If they indeed go 6-11 or worse, no one else would be at fault but Deshaun?
No QB could be successful behind that OL, and with a clown play caller.
But I do think Deshaun has much better chance at helping the Browns get to the playoffs than Winston would. Yes, some here are calling for Watson to be benched after only 3 games, and going with Winston. Sorry, but that would be panicking. Ask Saints fans about Winston. Careful what you wish for.

Purdy operates in an incredibly similar offense as Love, structural, play call, language, etc etc. And puts up numbers every bit as good if not better in a pretty tough division.
Only pointing out that if you feel Purdy isn't a "star* because of Shanahan's offense, yet MFL is a disciple of those same systems, then that would mean your QB is also a direct beneficiary and in the same mold.
I'm only showing you how your own attempt at logic can be used against you. That's all. No need or merit for debate or argument.

So, the Browns the fortunes are all dependent on Watson? If they indeed go 6-11 or worse, no one else would be at fault but Deshaun?

Winston is garbage too...

Then there is Brock Purdy, the last pick of the 2022 draft.
He's a star with the niners. With all the skills, why he was overlooked so long,
is a mystery. The Browns need to find their guy, I don't care what college he comes from, and I don't care if he is rated top ten in the any of the football gurus ratings.
Purdy has a far better and intact OL. He has enough time back there to make soup from scratch. Our QB is lucky to even get 2 seconds with this poorly conceived and now replete with injuries sham of an OL.

I'm not saying our o line is good or not, but is Watson holding the ball for too long?
That'll make any o line look like garbage.

I think the only way you know for sure is put a stopwatch on every play where the ball remains in his hands. Surely some statistician somewhere has that information. I know from watching Purdy that he takes naps sometimes before throwing.??

But I don't think we would argue over the fact that J-Love is far more talented than Purdy. And J-Love could flourish in any offense, while Purdy could not.

I said J-Love does benefit from being in LaFleur's offense. I didn't say they don't play in similar offenses NOW. I stated that J-Love could flourish in ANY offense, and Purdy could not.

With Watson and the Browns, it’s both. The Browns OLine is in shambles, and Watson has ALWAYS held onto the ball too long, dating back to Houston.
