Browns sign new QB
-
Why? This team isn’t making the playoffs in a million years. Let DTR play, confirm that he’s nothing but a career backup, get as high a pick you can, rinse and repeat next season too. Eat those huge cap hits the next two seasons, start with a new slate in 2026. I know no one wants to hear this, but it’s what needs to happen.
I completely agree, but realistically they won’t tank intentionally - NFL players that want to continue their careers don’t realistically do it, and the locker room may throw Kevin in Lake Erie if he trots out DTR week after week and he performs like he did in his brief stint Sunday.
We all know that somehow the browns will win 7 games, just enough to cut themselves out of all their top prospects. Then they’ll do the same thing next year ?

You think this team is going 6-4 the rest of the way?

On paper, I see them winning 2-3 more (saints and bengals maybe)
But I could see them somehow managing to go 6-4 and tanking their draft position just because that seems like a Browns thing to happen.

The thing is, the D is pretty good. And we will have some games where the opponent has taken a bit of a breather week thinking that we totally suck and they've got it in the bag. It'll take 'all we can do' to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory in some games.
Not for nothin' but Zappe sucks. Play DTR.

I'd now drop one of the other two and sign Tannehill. He's better than all of them.

Don't worry - Jed Wills has our back. Which means we can count on him to repeatedly not have his QB's back on the blind side. Practice makes perfect.
Even if he makes a mistake and actually blocks someone for once - we can still count on others to false start, lineup wrong and make sure there's at least 2 guys in motion before and throughout the snap.
They got it covered!

Blasphemy! ?
Frank was the best... No one went unscathed with Frank... He pissed off everybody in the establishment one atom at a time it seemed.... I miss Frank in a huge way.. He had an incredible way of handeling court judges... His psychology and the way he used it was masterful.. Read his autobiography "The Real Frank Zappa"... It's hilarious from the first paragraph to the last... I'm laughing my ass off writing this because Frank was generational... I can harken back to a time when my buddies and I would smoke mass quantities of MJ and sit around picking out guitar licks from various tunes.. Frank had a vicious perverted style of guitar playing.... Controlled wrecklesness... Steve Vai is in that same vein of style.. Steve toured with Frank and was on a couple of Franks records..... It's weird because I have a living soundtrack in my head.. like when some unforseen dilemma pops up... Franks Zylophone parts shriek into my mind... For people who have heard Frank will get what I'm saying...

The stupidest part is that they still, on paper, have more than a chance to rattle off wins to get back into the postseason picture. Only two losses are from the AFC to include the Raiders who likely aren't serious contenders in H2H. Will that happen- absolutely the fuck not, but it's crazy to consider.

I was literally yelling at my tv multiple times “What the hells are you doing Wills?” last Sunday.

I'm not sure how you can see 2 more wins on paper. The Saints and Broncos, which are both away games, may be our only hope. We are sitting 15 our of 16 teams in the AFC. We are only above the Patriots due to tie break over New England based on best win percentage in conference games.
I don't know what you're seeing that I'm not.

He's pretty good ain't he...
I remember thinking when he was drafted, 'Hmm...there are some other Tackles that have higher ratings.'....but I figured that He Must Be pretty good anyway because he was highly rated.

He had the tools to be fair, he’s just one of those dudes who wanted to collect the payday and party - with little interest in football. Think Wirfs outdid him in every metric at the combine, but our brain trust is just dumb and saw him as a guard or something.

Blasphemy! ? I know but close enough.
Wow, one of my favorite Zappa tunes!!!

Denver? Uh, nope. They've quietly become average, unlike the Browns

We've started the season going the first seven games without scoring twenty points once.
I'd walk down Euclid Avenue in a thong after the season ended if they even managed four more wins.

I guess I have a theory that with a semi decent QB this team is not as bad as they are on paper. Whether or not that’s true, we will see in the coming weeks.
Sure our OL sucks, but they graded pretty well this past week outside of Dunn and Wills, our receivers can’t catch (fire Chad o shea already Jesus Christ), but they’ve had separation and a lot of openings that Watson missed (by not throwing their way at all) or misfired (every time he did throw over 10 yards). We kinda said the same thing last year about the crap OL killing Flacco, and receivers being awful - then Flacco came in and spread the field. I think this team isn’t that different.
I’ll eat my words if I’m wrong, but I kinda think the Winston part of the year will have a resurgence in overall team competence. His garbage time drive just reinforced my thoughts on the matter.
But I’m gonna hold you to the thong thing

2 bad is still 40% of your OL.
The open target rate is high, and Jeudy has been the biggest weapon not being used on that end.
The OL was so-so at spots last year but we ran a lot of 6 and 7 man protections to compensate with Joe under center.
Worked well ... Until it didn't.

You are right, we will see how this plays out.
If Stefanski shifts back to his offense, there's a chance the offense gets more productive.
But this season really, really reminds me of the 1990 Browns season. The 1989 Browns cobbled together an AFC Central division title and made it to the AFC Championship, losing AGAIN to the Denver Broncos. The next season the team absolutely imploded, specifically the OLine fell apart due to age, and the team limped to a 3-13 finish.
I'd be somewhat shocked if the Browns drafted outside the top 5.
