I think it will pass and it's a huge mistake.

You guys don't know who's behind it, what if it's a conservative special interest group? What if the Republicans want it to pass?

Bleed gets it, you don't just put people in charge you know nothing about and haven't been voted in.

Right now our elected officials are held accountable, after this they will not be.(whoever they will be)

You guys are so quick to give away our freedoms and protection.

We know Republicans aren't behind it because they're currently behind fighting it and continuing to gerrymander.

The folks will be vetted by a committee of retired judges. The group will be split evenly across party lines.

The current system of "accountability" is a joke. The people in charge are stacking the deck and making it increasingly difficult to hold them accountable (the gerrymandering). Having fair districts isn't something that should be up to politicians. They should just be a fact of life.

Honestly surprising to me that conservatives have convinced the base to essentially be pro gerrymandering. But I imagine they realize they're voting more to keep Republicans with an advantage and not really concerning themselves about how.

For the record I don't care which party this would or wouldn't benefit. I see it as an obvious change that needs to happen. Like ranked choice voting and fixing our electoral college

That's what makes your opinion worthless.

  • I voted for every Repub except for 2 in my district and no on everything else.

It's always going to be considered gerrymandering by the side with less power.

Giving in to fear mongering as always.

Except .... No ... That's not how this works.

You're dismissing everything as gerrymandering so you can defend... Gerrymandering.

Look, man, if you only goal is to vote for whatever gives Republicans the most power, regardless of any fairness or anything else, then that's your choice. Just don't pretend you're doing anything more than that.

You support Gerrymandering, just trying to hide it with a Yes vote which supports Gerrymandering.

Try to follow along hammer.  Gee, I've only said this around a dozen times here.  I happen to be pro life, and anti abortion... I even donated fairly regularly to the (now defrocked) Father Frank Pavone's Priests for Life- until he devolved into trying to hit me up for contributions every two weeks.  And sold my name and address to every anti abortion group in the country.  FYI- I do keep a spreadsheet of who's asking me for money, and how often. It's now 210 lines long. ?

Go figure Cal... I'm not a one issue voter...  FWIW, one of the preeminent American Catholic Prelates- Bishop Robert Barron recently said it's OK to not be one.

Well- I'll give you my thinking on abortion. Even though I consider it seriously morally wrong, let's assume abortion was 100% legal (BTW- after birth abortion- killing a viable fetus outside of the womb is considered infanticide). Should a woman choose to have an abortion, I've never heard of a case where someone put a gun to her head and told her she had to have one.

It's a tough, divisive issue - I find it wrong - but in some special circumstances, I understand it.

My disgust with the issue is women getting pregnant, and wanting to wait til the 4th - 9th month to decide

to destroy the child for no legitimate reason. why? so they can get those federal single mother checks coming in as long as possible?

    I don't get it.

Your perception of why women get an abortion and the reality of why and when women get abortions could not be more different.

But living in an alternate fantasy reality isn't new for you either...

you didn't read and understand my post, dumb ass. There are a lot of reasons for women deciding to have an abortion.

MY DISGUST... why do we always have to define words for you? Read the article below - one example - 23 weeks. That is over 5 months. So, mothers who decide to keep their baby past 5 months, the have 4 months of fed assistance coming in, only to wait til the ninth month to decide to destroy their child? Outisde of some health of the mother crisis, what other reasons are there?

Dec 13, 2023To be eligible, women must live in the specified region, be at least 18 years old, 23 weeks pregnant or less with your first child, and have an annual household income under $52,000.

I understood your post perfectly. They aren't that hard to follow.

Again, what is actually happening and what you think is happening are very different. You just have a very emotionally charged view on this issue.

I'd invite you to read up on the topic. Less than 1% of abortions are happening past 21 weeks.

  • yes, woodpecker. percentages sound small.

The reality sets in and twists your beak. One percent of 1,026,700 is 10,267 babies being born after 21 weeks.image.thumb.jpeg.6c4a299e79d8caddd2710946060c67da.jpeg

    https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2024/03/19/1238293143/abortion-data-how-many-us-2023

More than a million abortions were provided in the U.S. in 2023. That's a major finding from a report published Tuesday by the Guttmacher Institute, a research organization that supports access to abortion.

To be precise, researchers estimate there were 1,026,700 abortions in 2023. "That's the highest number in over a decade, [and] the first time there have been over a million abortions provided in the U.S. formal health care system since 2012," explains Isaac Maddow-Zimet, a data scientist with Guttmacher.
