There's no 1st rd talent (generational imo) at QB. We have 2nd pick overall. What kind of haul could we get for that. Would have to be pretty good.

Agreed. Generation talent means once in a generation.  You rarely have those in the draft.

Cam Ward is very good and could become great if the Browns organization was top notch, presently it is too disorganized to nurture talent. Lamarr Jackson wasn't considered a great QB in his draft but look at where he is now with a stable organization and good coaching.

I'd 100% take Cam at #2.  I wouldn't be surprised if the Titans take him #1 though.

  • Trade back and build up draft capital

  • So... initial games and rough charting of Cam Ward done.    Hear me out on this Cam Fans.

Cam Ward - 6'2 (ish) 220lbs.  Elongated slow throwing motion, slow mechanics, inconsistent delivery and questionable footwork.

Mystery QB - 6'1 3/8(ish) 219lbs.  Elongated, slow throwing motion, slow mechanics, inconsistent delivery and questionable footwork.

Both have a release that tends to push the ball out with an inconsistent nose trajectory that either has it drive downwards or upwards with too much air, sapping downfield accuracy and velocity.  Both have a style that leads to batted passes at the line with a flat release, the mystery QB slightly more-so.    Both have a similar athletic profile with similar first step take-off speed and aren't great at navigating decaying pocket integrity with intent to distribute off-schedule but to initial read-side structure.

Both played in the same conference and put up amazing numbers.

One is viewed as an initial mid-round pick, the other possibly as the #2 overall QB and I'm sure with "whispers" of #1.

Both faced a schedule of defenses that rank in the bottom 1/3 in all of CFB collectively.

    Who is the mystery QB?

You've earned yourself one Milk Dud, sir.   Go treat Yoself.

edit:  Watching and charting McCord.  I'm willing to hear compelling arguments on how Cam Ward is head and shoulders above Kyle....  But I'm not seeing it.   This likely speaks to the shallow QB class that this will be.  Because Kyle is a late to UDFA in any other year.

Both have incredibly similar games within and outside the pocket.

edit:  Let me be clear by saying both are physically capable.  However their passing mechanics are going to hold them back in the NFL.  They also both need quite a bit of work on the eye side of things.  'Cuse offense really let Kyle rip and tear with volume.

Neither are day 1 starters and need significant time to revamp their footwork and delivery fundamentals.

Ward had many games where the game was on the line and he produced.  That's not really a stat that is tracked so far as I know.  It would be interesting to see how many of these QBs were able to put together drives when needed.  It's subjective and hard to quantify but I'd be curious if it was analyzed.

I can work on it, but I can also tell you that that Miami and 'Cuse have faced a defensive strength of schedule that floats near the 60's.

  • Haven't read through the whole thread but what do you guys think about Abdul Carter, the edge from Penn State for our 1st pick? Wouldn't he be more of an immediate  impact player opposite Myles and also insurance if Myles demands a trade?

I would take him at 2. There are scouts saying he is a standup outside backer in a 3-4.  I think he is a physical specimen with elite speed to impact a game especially partnered with Myles.  Scouting reports say he could use his hands better - something I’m sure that can be coached up at the next levels   For Carters sake Cleveland would be an ideal spot for him.

    Has a character issue though.

i want no part of these QBs. I like Will Howard middle end of Day 3. Dart looked really good in his Bowl game I don’t this he’s worth a first round or even a 2nd round pick though.

Lamar had an elite NFL tool coming into the NFL run and escapability that he relied on to this day until he developed years later as a passer.

Believe it or not, when he won the Heisman at Louisville - most of his highlight reels weren't for his scrambling like the NFL likes to show - they were more about his big plays in the passing game.  People forget that about him.

Wasn't valued by the draft "experts" though. Only Baltimore did their proper homework and selected him 32 in the draft.

There was a Louisville Cardinal fan who used to be on here, and in the off-season of Darnold vs Baker vs Allen vs Rosen this guy was the only person pimping Lamar. I don't recall anyone else on here even remotely giving Jackson a second look.

If there's a market for the QB still on the board at #2 (assuming it is Ward) yes, yes and yes.
