Keeping in mind that's 2 different schools over a 5 year span - my guess is any interested NFL teams aren't thinking durability is an issue.

His physical attributes - his size, arm and athleticism - are all pretty ordinary, but it hasn't affected his ability to show up every game.

Russ and Pickett should allow you to punt on that position in the draft and build the support pieces (OL, RB, TE, WR) after we draft Carter at the top that can gain experience in 2025 and help a rookie QB in 26.

Where will we be drafting in '26 with Wilson at QB for '25?  14th or so?

There aren't many reason why you don't draft a QB with the #2 pick in the draft.

    1)  You don't need a starting QB. - not us.

    2)  There are no QB's available at pick #2 worth drafting in the top dozen or so picks. -  and that's a fine and valid reason...but you have to be right.  If one of the next teams drafting picks the QB and he turns out to be good while your team remains floundering around...then you have to fall on your sword.  So, as Clint Eastwood would say...'Are ya feeling lucky?'   -  Ironically, here we are having recently signed one of those QB's that shouldn't have been drafted so high.

of course he did. But the NFL is bigtime.

the college defenses of N D State, Nebraska, Colorado State, Baylor, UCF, Kansas State, Arizona, Cincinnati, Texas Tech, Utah, Kansas, OK State, BYU, aren't like the NFL defenses he will face, and a longer season.

We watched Colorado a lot of the season - he's terrific, but there are concerns in some NFL circles. And Shadeur is very close to being the same size as Baker Mayfield.

I hope Shadeur has a terrific, long career - I hope he goes to an offense where he doesn't get banged around, doesn't run qb sneaks,....

Former New York Jets scout Daniel Kelly has raised questions about former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders’ medical risk ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft.

"Shadeur Sanders’ Medical History Could See Him Drop Out of Top 10 in NFL Draft

Sanders is expected to be an early first-round pick, but SI Colorado Buffaloes said “he was complaining about numbness in his extremities” back in 2023 following a fractured back. That resulted in him being pulled mid-game and is something that could make or break a team’s decision to select him."

"However, teams are clearly more than aware of the medical risk and that a fractured back can lead to further issues later on. Front offices will want to be absolutely certain he is their long-term QB with what is expected to be a strong 2026 draft class for those behind center."

Daniel Kelly? That dude has some big time wiffs for a professional.   And not just a few either.   Something I've learned, especially in the last 8 years - to be more measured with our words and evaluations.

If Sanders checked out physically for the last year and a half with no issues, then health concerns aren't a flag.  Especially considered he played behind one of the worst power 5 OLs for two seasons and missed only that one game.

true, but most draft experts have "wiffs". and it isn't just Daniel Kelly.

Shadeur should be drafted high, he's terrific - and again, he isn't going to be a qb sneak guy in the NFL, more like a Tom Brady guy, a Dan Morino type guy.

    not just Kelly:

    https://www.essentiallysports.com/ncaa-college-football-news-nfl-warned-about-shedeur-sanders-major-concerns-after-coach-primes-son-sent-clear-message-to-jerry-jones-cowboys/

    "However, lead NFL draft analyst

doesn’t seem to agree with the fact, as he thinks if Shedeur Sanders enters the pro league as a starter, he might end up ruining his career. As he says, “I think that if he’s a starter in the NFL and goes to the right system, I think he’s more of a mid-tier starting quarterback at the NFL level, but he plays the game in a way that you can start him and feel good about him with a high floor. The big question is, does he have the physical gifts to really be that kind of a quarterback to take you into the playoffs and beyond?”

    ****************************************************

"Look Shedeur Sanders’ accuracy and toughness speak volumes, but in the NFL draft, grit alone doesn’t earn gold stars. His physical attributes, compared to other top prospects, raise some concerns that could make teams reluctant to use a high draft pick on him. Amidst this uncertainty, his draft stock is suffering. Mel Kiper of ESPN has moved him down to No. 4, with odds at +500, while Cam Ward remains a steady -140. The latest concern? His physicality is now a new red flag."

    ***************************************************************

I hadn't read this, but my point about Tom Brady is also made by this author:

    "

But that doesn’t mean Shedeur Sanders is not good. He possesses accuracy, pocket presence, and sharp decision-making—qualities that could potentially make him a dependable NFL starter. In today’s NFL, where dynamic players like Mahomes and Allen excel, the question remains: does Shedeur have the physical attributes required to compete at an elite level? This uncertainty looms large. The NFL values quarterbacks who can dominate games, a mold that Shedeur doesn’t quite fit.

Then again, neither did Tom Brady, who was marked less for being slow, unathletic, and lacking arm strength. Shedeur could defy expectations. Brady’s unimpressive 40-yard dash time of 5.24 seconds led him to be the 199th pick, far from being seen as a generational talent. Fast forward to today, with seven Super Bowls under his belt, those initial doubts seem absurd. It goes to show that the right system, mindset, and relentless effort can change the narrative."

Actually, I would choose Sanders #1 overall....or at 2 if he's available.  But I'm pretty sure he's going #1 overall.  And you're afraid that DePodesta sees it that way too.  (trade up)

Ward?  He could be good.  I see his style of throwing being loosely tied to Mahommes.  Sling it from anywhere, any position.  However, my confidants could persuade me from one side of the fence to the other   -  I like Sanders' respect for protecting possession of the ball and for willingness to work within the framework of the system.  And I'm betting that in his genes is enough athleticism to do what you need your QB to do in today's game.  That's purely from a football perspective.  Outside of that there's personality and family.  After all, we have had problems with a player's Dad before.  🙂

If the Browns think Sanders has “IT”.  You do whatever it takes to pick him including moving from 2 to 1.  That’s the strategy that I hope for next year if/when we don’t take a QB with that pick this season.

I am not so sure any QB is going to be all that good in the pro's.  I really want Dart, but to get him we will have to move up.  I mentioned Milrow simply because he is probably 4th on the list of draftable QB's.

Let me rephrase. I lean towards taking Hunter then a QB who the Browns feel is the best available.  Insert any name that makes you happy.  I don't say that in a snippy way. I don't think any of the QB's are going to be great QB's but there are probably 5-6 who can become good QB's.

As fans we all want the next HOF QB, but that doesn't happen all that often. A good QB is all that is needed to compete for championships if he is fitted with the right team and scheme.

I wouldn't call Terry Bradshaw a great QB except he has all the bling. He was fitted with a team that had good to great players across the board, on both sides of the ball.  Make no mistake, I think Terry was a good to very good QB but had he been strapped to the Saints for his career I doubt he would have all the bling and a gold jacket.

In a more modern context, look at Geoff in Detroit. Did he all of a sudden look really good on his own or was it because he landed with a Detroit team who has really good players around him and a coaching staff that helped unlock his potential?

I think it is easier to identify and pick good non-QB's than it is to find that QB who can lift the whole team.  Get some good players around a decent QB and all of a sudden he is going to look like the Ritz.

From a talent standpoint, Hunter is the best player in this draft IMO.  If he is there, we just need to take him and figure out the rest as we go.

Yeah I know our new offensive coordinator or QB coach worked with Milroe, so familiarity helps. He just didn't look great in the few games I saw him play. He definitely does some things well though.

Regarding Hunter, it's probably the safest pick but with the Browns needing help in the trenches, I'm not sure they take him.

Dart is intriguing as well. Critics say he's a "one read guy," I don't know.

With 5 of the first 104 picks, I'm hoping they draft at least 3 starters.

This is becoming my feeling also... I know a lot of teams draft for need..  But I have always felt... BTA at said pick... as long as you keep "stacking the best" as it were... I think in the end you wind up with a better team in the long run... But I guess there's more than one road to mecca...

What veteran QB available is making Myles say that he's happy with what they are going to do? Possibly over-the-hill Kirk Cousins or Russell Wilson?

I think he was told that we have the #2 pick and that one of the two top QBs is coming here.

if we talk about this current regime do or die this year and this is for their jobs.  This is most logical pick.  Myles and Carter likely equals at least a turnover a game.

We become elite on the edges. Carter has a motor and some get off and he played as an off ball linebacker for a couple years - he has versatility.

And if your Stefanski you made old man Joe good so show us once again you can do it with a guy at the end of his road that can still make good decisions.

Was he?  Negative turnover margin per game.
