2025 Mock Draft from Athlon Sports NFL Draft Preview...

The Titans sent everybody except the ball boy to Ward's Pro Day today. Seems like they'll be drafting him.
They very much could be...
But then again, if the Titans were interested in possibly trading down, making everyone think Ward is definitely an option for them to take would make sense too.

I wonder what it would take to pry will levis from them ? maybe our 2nd overall pick and maybe a 3rd ?

Yes, then they're just driving up the price. But the Titans need a QB as bad as we do. I can't see them having the pick of the litter and not taking the best one. The rouse would only be to try and make the Browns trade up to #1 because they think the Browns want Ward...and all along the Titans really want Sanders. I wouldn't think that the Titans would want to be picking after us...because that would mean both QB's are gone. We would pick the other or possibly trade with someone else who'll pick him.
I just feel that the Browns & Titans need a QB...and neither can pass up the two best in the draft.

Yes, you've made this point quite a few times.
Nothing like having the #1 or #2 overall pick of a draft only to feel like you have to reach for a QB in a bad QB class.

Yeah, I'm like a broken record. It's just that the NFL game is all about the QB. And without one, you might as well go stamp collecting. (there, I've never mad that analogy before)

Browns target Jalen Milroe shines at Pro Day
Milroe finished his Pro Day by competing in throwing drills. The script was created by Milroe’s quarterback coach Jordan Palmer. The two have been in the lab refining Milroe’s footwork during the draft season. Milroe’s hard work paid off. Milroe was accurate in drills, he threw 52 passes completing 45 of them. Milroe has the arm strength to make any throw on the field, but his feet being misaligned is a significant source of his inaccuracy
-----
...and he ran an unverified 4.37 40.
Milroe's arm strength isn't the issue.
His athletic ability isn't the issue.
When he sets his feet and steps into a throw, it's not an issue. He can throw a pretty pass at times.
He is an average processor of defensive information both pre and post snap with little to no year over year improvement. That is his 1st, 2nd and 3rd issue. A pro day is only going to mask that giant red flag.
Johnny Manziel had an amazing pro day, never forget that.

Has Milroe been spotted on a swan in Vegas with a beer in his hand and coke up his nose??

Sign him up!?
Hold on! We need a guy that can strike oil by accident. I think I found a feller.

Speaking of which I just got my oil royalty check into the bank this week. Almost enough to get me one of Ole Jed's cement ponds, though it would have to be on the Barbie Dreamhouse scale since it was barely over $100 accumulated over about 7 months. What's that guy say in the casino game Texas Tea when he gets his royalty check? Yippee!!?

Are you suggesting that, if your team needs a QB, and is probably going to draft one of the higher rated QB's, then going to a Pro Day is pulling wool over your eyes?
I believe that type of environment, painting a bed of roses, has convinced many a NFL front offices to pull the trigger on QB's that had no business taking as high as they did.
Is it good for interviews? Probably.
To speak to the medical team and to clear the bill of health? Yessir.
To see what physical and mechanics improvements might have been made since seasons end? I suppose.
To gauge QB play from the course of a career into how it projects at the NFL level? Absolutely not.
Because you end up getting obsessed with QB's completing timing throws to receivers they know without any variables that would actually include a QB's live-game passes.
Want to impress me? Script a pro day against the scout or walk-on team with certain rules (no pressures beyond 4, 3pt stances, certain motion shifts and coverage shells) Then tell said scout team it's for scholarships. I'd rather see a QB complete 70% against bodies than 95% against air. Even if it's training camp type light. You get a better understanding of the quality of QB you're getting but also the quality of competitor.

Exactly! The combine doesn't show a QB's pre-snap intellect/read as well as the ensuing progression reads after the snap (from that information gathering) before we even factor in NFL DBs covering the targets have much better closing speeds working in tandem with the front 7 hurrying passers.
Every year when they run the quick/short out routes - the leader of the drill has to re-emphasize we're not looking for completions as much as we want to see the timing. When you plant make the throw to where it is supposed to go - DO NOT hesitate/wait for a Receiver that is slow to get there. They know if you wait on these throws in the NFL - these are pick 6s.
You used a term "processor" recently - which ultimately becomes the make or break for these guys. How quickly can you get that pre-snap intellect up to speed so that your throws within the progression reads are on time enough to be accurate. The better the processor is the better the computer is relying on it - same applies to QBs.

I still remember the 2000 draft when we drafted the following edge rusher (Courtney Brown) from Penn State 1st overall. Take a look at what he did below before going to Cleveland and getting injured more than once on those 16 game schedules. Check out the combine results for a guy that big. Now the Browns are considering a guy that has 2 injuries in his first 16 game season. Even worse, Drew Rosenhaus is his agent. Don't be surprised if the Browns draft him only to learn after the signing bonus - he needs surgery before he can play. For what it's worth the only edge rusher here that made the Pro Bowl during Courtney Brown's tenure in Cleveland was his replacement Jamir Miller. That's what injuries can do to even the best of prospects...

I don't like foot injuries. Especially bone issues. Each foot has 20 something bones in them, and most are pretty small. In a high stress situation like competitive sports, it seems like once they start breaking, it never stops.
Bone breaks in other areas of the body can actually heal. In the foot? Your feet support everything else. Once they start breaking...they are small, hard to place pins....naaa, I think I shy away from that.

That 1st 16 game schedule he played took a toll on him. I had a high school teammate that got a shoulder injury during our freshman season. It re-visited him during JV football and he missed about 4 starts total on varsity (while constantly aggravating it). He was a DT that lined up head-up/outside shoulder across from the OT (back in 78-81 line-up location didn't have a technique attached to it). Today, they'd say that's 5-6 technique. He'd be in a 6 technique on the outside shoulder any time we used a 6 man front. He was a great player for us. He said anytime I forget I have this thing - and I have to extend my arm to grab and pull I get a very painful reminder it's still there. Injuries to the feet or ball and socket can be very painful and quite unpredictable.

And on a pro level you know opponents are aware of any injuries and will definitely exploit them.
