Browns Sign Joe Flacco to a one year deal

Good signing. I was not happy when we let him go last year. I think we would have won several more games than we did if we had Flacco.
Whatever QB we draft can sit and learn from Joe instead of being thrown in as a rookie (hopefully).

McShay was running through a scenario today where the Browns draft Hunter at #2 and then trade up into the middle of the first to get his teammate Sanders.
That would be a bold move, Cotton.

Had best invest heavily in fixing the Oline and running game now. But it's nice to see old Joe.

Sweet. Run it back.
Is this what excited Garrett? Lol.
I was thinking about this the other day ironically... "Why did Garrett sign back so willingly"... It can't be because of Flacco naturally.... There has to be a secret trade and sign deal set up with someone,,, It's about the only thing that makes it all make sense... ..

I think all the reasons he gave for staying were rehearsed for both he and the team. He stayed because he and his team figured out they had no leverage in my opinion.

With this news, I think there are two options I'd go with:
1. draft Hunter, but he may actually be taken by Tenn. at one, unless they also trade down.
2. Trade down. I'm not sold on taking Carter at 2 - it's a very strong Edge draft. So,
trade down a bit, and as much as I want them to draft Tyler Warren, I also want them to draft Josh Simmons, LT. I would love Warren at maybe ten, and trade back up into the first round and get Simmons, who may not be there in the second at all. With a trade down, we could pick up an extra third round pick - giving us three. Depending on what we could get in a trade down, maybe an extra pick next year, which would help the Browns trade up to get the qb they want.
Draft a qb with a third round pick, go defense the rest of the way.
I just don't know, it's complicated this year. lol
Absolutely no way Hunter goes 1. If for some insane reason he does you take Ward at 2

Probably, I think they do take Ward at one. But there could be huge surprises in this draft.
There is all sorts of talk. I'm just not sold on Ward. He's very good, but I just don't know.
It will take him some time.
Titans say they won't pass on 'generational talent' with No. 1 pick in 2025 NFL Draft

"Strengths
- Recognizes pre-snap pressure and can protect himself.
- Displays recognition for attacking holes in the coverage.
- Sudden release helps him thrive with quick game and seam throws.
- Can whip throws into tight windows from 25 yards away.
- Release quickness and velocity limit defender’s reaction time to the throw.
- Arm talent to make throws that others in this draft class cannot.
- Alters trajectory and touch for bucket throws.
- Mobility creates longer cover times and second-action opportunities.
- Able to read the front side and get to the back side with his progression.
- Bobs and weaves around the pocket and away from pressure points.
- Capable runner when the pocket breaks down but doesn’t bolt unnecessarily.
Weaknesses
- Too willing to work out of structure and play hero ball.
- Struggled with Georgia Tech’s disguised coverages.
- Needs eye discipline to prevent coverage overlaps against zone.
- Inconsistent tying his feet with his eyes when scanning.
- Gets excited and cuts it loose before the route develops.
- Drop-down, sidearm release creates erratic placement.
- Seam throws become a security blanket when he’s uncomfortable.
- Unjustifiable interceptions from reckless cross-field throws.
- NFL QB-hunters will make him pay for reckless backward scrambles.
- Rears back and rips throws when touch and finesse is needed.
- Completed just 39% of his passes inside the red zone in 2024, per Pro Football Focus."

That might be a good move, (if they like Sanders), but I’d have to see what they’re giving up as to whether I’d like it or not personally.

33, 67, and 2026 second.
Not sure I like it -
Watson will be on a designation of some kind all year. So they can carry 3.
I agree. All teams can do that. I think the 4 comes assuming we draft a QB. Maybe we don't. Next year looks to be much deeper at QB than this.
Edit...this also assumes we are working under the floated Idea we still go after Cousins.

That could very well be the asking price.
It wouldn't shock me if it was the 2026 first rounder.
The price is good for a mid first rounder But I’m not sold on any of these QBs being worth that much. (Even with position value factored in). I do think Sanders is the best project and we do need a QB for sure.
i like Milroe as a project, but I don’t know where he’ll end up being taken.

I wanted the Browns to trade down from #2 and hopefully pick up someone's first rounder next year.
With our first rounder (which could very well be a top 10 pick) and that other one we'd be in good position to move and get a QB next season in what should be a better QB class.
But Sanders stock seems to be stagnant, and I have a feeling no one is just dying to trade up to #2 to take him, so that idea is probably DOA.

2025 Draft Value Chart:
To get to #24 - Minnesota - #2, #94, and a couple 6th rounders.
To get to #14 - Indy - the rest of our '25 draft picks - OR #33, 67 and probably a 2nd (or 3rd & 4th) rounder next year.
I think #2 in Minnesota trade you meant 33 right.
I would do that trade if Sanders fell to 24. Easily.

NFL draft: Could another team’s misfortune unravel the Browns QB plan? (msn.com)
NFL draft: Could another team’s misfortune unravel the Browns QB plan?
The Cleveland Browns made news on Friday morning by announcing they had reached an agreement with quarterback Joe Flacco. The veteran has plenty of support among the fanbase and some believe that he will be given an opportunity to start next season.
Flacco now joins Kenny Pickett in the QB room as the only two healthy quarterbacks on the roster. Momentum has been building for the Browns to take Travis Hunter with the number two overall pick after months of speculation about Shedeur Sanders being the pick.
That doesn’t mean that Cleveland won’t be drafting a rookie, and most still expect them to take one pretty early. Todd McShay of The Ringer had the Browns trading back into the first round with Atlanta to reunite Sanders with Hunter in his latest mock draft release.
Unexpected news broke later in the day when it was reported that quarterback Derek Carr has a shoulder injury that could put his availability for this season in doubt.
Carr’s future with the New Orleans Saints was already questionable as he was rumored to be a possible post-June 1st cut. Some even wondered if this news caused the Browns to take action to sign Flacco, including our own Jared Mueller.
The Saints could now be more desperate for a solution and many analysts are pointing to Sanders or Jaxson Dart as a possible pick at number nine overall. That could throw a wrench in the Browns plan if they were hoping to land either of them a little later. We could also see Jalen Milroe and Tyler Shough, the presumed fourth and fifth quarterbacks in this draft, be selected higher than expected as a ripple effect.
It will be interesting to see how this all of this plays out with the draft less than two weeks away, but you can count on more mock drafts with the Saints taking a QB in the meantime.

I'd be on the phone seeing if New Orleans is interested in jumping up to #2 overall.
I'd be all over taking their #9 overall pick and their 2026 first rounder.

Even with a presumed healthy Carr I was thinking that the Saints could draft Sanders if he fell to them. But fortunately we had signed Flacco because he'd probably be a Saint.
