Browns Sign Joe Flacco to a one year deal
-
Watson will be on a designation of some kind all year. So they can carry 3.
I agree. All teams can do that. I think the 4 comes assuming we draft a QB. Maybe we don't. Next year looks to be much deeper at QB than this.
Edit...this also assumes we are working under the floated Idea we still go after Cousins.

McShay was running through a scenario today where the Browns draft Hunter at #2 and then trade up into the middle of the first to get his teammate Sanders.
That would be a bold move, Cotton.
33, 67, and 2026 second.
Not sure I like it -
That could very well be the asking price.
It wouldn't shock me if it was the 2026 first rounder.
The price is good for a mid first rounder But I’m not sold on any of these QBs being worth that much. (Even with position value factored in). I do think Sanders is the best project and we do need a QB for sure.
i like Milroe as a project, but I don’t know where he’ll end up being taken.

I wanted the Browns to trade down from #2 and hopefully pick up someone's first rounder next year.
With our first rounder (which could very well be a top 10 pick) and that other one we'd be in good position to move and get a QB next season in what should be a better QB class.
But Sanders stock seems to be stagnant, and I have a feeling no one is just dying to trade up to #2 to take him, so that idea is probably DOA.

2025 Draft Value Chart:
To get to #24 - Minnesota - #2, #94, and a couple 6th rounders.
To get to #14 - Indy - the rest of our '25 draft picks - OR #33, 67 and probably a 2nd (or 3rd & 4th) rounder next year.
I think #2 in Minnesota trade you meant 33 right.
I would do that trade if Sanders fell to 24. Easily.

NFL draft: Could another team’s misfortune unravel the Browns QB plan? (msn.com)
NFL draft: Could another team’s misfortune unravel the Browns QB plan?
The Cleveland Browns made news on Friday morning by announcing they had reached an agreement with quarterback Joe Flacco. The veteran has plenty of support among the fanbase and some believe that he will be given an opportunity to start next season.
Flacco now joins Kenny Pickett in the QB room as the only two healthy quarterbacks on the roster. Momentum has been building for the Browns to take Travis Hunter with the number two overall pick after months of speculation about Shedeur Sanders being the pick.
That doesn’t mean that Cleveland won’t be drafting a rookie, and most still expect them to take one pretty early. Todd McShay of The Ringer had the Browns trading back into the first round with Atlanta to reunite Sanders with Hunter in his latest mock draft release.
Unexpected news broke later in the day when it was reported that quarterback Derek Carr has a shoulder injury that could put his availability for this season in doubt.
Carr’s future with the New Orleans Saints was already questionable as he was rumored to be a possible post-June 1st cut. Some even wondered if this news caused the Browns to take action to sign Flacco, including our own Jared Mueller.
The Saints could now be more desperate for a solution and many analysts are pointing to Sanders or Jaxson Dart as a possible pick at number nine overall. That could throw a wrench in the Browns plan if they were hoping to land either of them a little later. We could also see Jalen Milroe and Tyler Shough, the presumed fourth and fifth quarterbacks in this draft, be selected higher than expected as a ripple effect.
It will be interesting to see how this all of this plays out with the draft less than two weeks away, but you can count on more mock drafts with the Saints taking a QB in the meantime.

I'd be on the phone seeing if New Orleans is interested in jumping up to #2 overall.
I'd be all over taking their #9 overall pick and their 2026 first rounder.

Even with a presumed healthy Carr I was thinking that the Saints could draft Sanders if he fell to them. But fortunately we had signed Flacco because he'd probably be a Saint.

I don't get why the Saints wouldn't have been thinking QB 1st anyway. Derek Carr has been depreciating in value for years. I might get myself into trouble here; but when is the last time Derek Carr led anybody to the playoffs? If the best answer to that starts with "yeah but" - Spencer Rattler would be their current plan. You better play serious Texas Hold Em with that hand...
I know Milroe makes a lot of people nervous; but he didn't make Tommy Rees nervous as his QB Coach & Offensive Coordinator.
I'll share what I'm talking about here with how much the right Coach matters with Milroe in terms of passing:
WITH Rees: 2023 - 11 wins 2 losses 65.8 comp% 2834 yards 10 YPA 23 TD 6 INT 531 rush yards 12 rush TDs.
WITHOUT Rees: 2024 = 9 wins 4 losses 64.3 comp% 2844 yards 8.9 YPA 16 TD 11 INT 726 rush yards 20 rush TDs.
There was a period of time the Browns spent all their energy moving back to add picks, which is a GREAT idea for a team that is prepared for that new draft slot. Unfortunately, when they got to a lot of these new draft slots they created - they weren't prepared for the talent falling to them so 1 analysts kept saying the Browns could have drafted this prospect 2 rounds from now. In response to reaching on all the guys they traded back for - the Browns gave it the old "we're gonna coach em up and develop them the right way." Just like clockwork, that coaching staff got fired at the end of that regular season. Why? Because the Owner and FO needed scapegoats for their inability to compete at the draft. Okay, so what about all these rookies that might not be compatible or needed with/by the incoming staff? Best case scenario, is you confuse them with deprograming what they just learned for a new system.
This was all before they were capable of drafting Baker Mayfield and Denzel Ward in the same 1st round while getting Nick Chubb in the 2nd round. YES, they did draft Austin Corbett (2 spots before they added Chubb) who eventually ended up starting at Guard for the Rams in a Super Bowl for an Offensive minded HC nobody confuses with Hue Jackson.
All that to say, let the draft come to you. Teams should be coming to the Browns hot and heavy for that #2 overall spot. If the Browns are the ones making the calls to other teams they lose half their leverage in how much someone is willing to give them. If they're receiving calls, now an interested team has to compete and give up more if they really want Carter, Hunter or their QB. If the Browns are making the calls - they're pretty much team teams they don't have the interest they had hoped for IMO. I could be wrong about that...

It is definitely a fair talking point, but I'd honestly much more strongly point to the regression of Milroe having tape and other teams being able to prepare. His bad tape is awful, and the thought of taking that level of project in the 2nd round just doesn't make any logical sense to me. His processing ability is just markedly bad, no matter how athletic he may be.
Milroe to me is Kizer 2.0. Of course, given the Flacco/Pickett signings he wouldn't be thrown the wolves like Kizer was, but I just don't see it unless he slides 3rd/4th. Taking him at 33 would be a wild reach.

You bring up some good points JRB. My angle on it all is a whole new coaching staff came in at Alabama in 2024 very late - right after their new HC lost the Natty to The School Up North. I'm thinking a lot of Milroe's teammates headed for the transfer portal but that hasn't been fact checked. Anyway, it was a new offense for him to learn with newer targets for chemistry to develop so the insecurity of it all had him resorting to counting on his legs more.
Kizer reminded me a lot of Charlie Frye. Both seemed like easy guys to root for; but both had a slow processor behind the eye balls. You can be accurate but if your processing is slow - in this league those are passes broken up or INTs or both. A lot of young QBs could really use a football version of Evelyn Woodhead Speed reading. Better pre-snap habits/intellect can also help expedite the progressions reads if you have the right QB coach or tutor. Understanding a leverages and numbers also factor in here. Good offenses communicate with each other when in between series. JMO, the Tommy Rees leadership worked best for Milroe. If memory serves me right, they gave TSUN the biggest challenge the year they asterisked up their Natty.
FWIW, all QBs in this draft have flaws - and if anyone read this board before the 2018 draft Josh Allen's were pointed out way more frequently than Josh Rosen's. I still don't think Shedeur Sanders became a bad QB in the off-season. If those Billy Kilmer spirals at the workout ruined the velocity or accuracy of his throws, I wouldn't be saying this. When you're hailed as the most accurate passer in the draft - my guess is QB Coaches & Offensive Coordinators prefer this kind of prospect to work with. 1 thing that caught my eye though was the height on those deep throws with great touch and accuracy. My 1 concern is that workout was indoors not on the shore of a Great Lake with chilling/swirling winds. As we've witnessed - we haven't always had the right Offensive Staff here to see a QB prospect through development process. Nick Saban sure thinks we have the right guy for that today...

Cousins doesn't excite me at all
You know The Browns only paid Flacco 4 million, That is back up money and i believe a huge bluff directed towards the falcons (as in we are not gonna give you what you want for Cousins) so I would AssuMe that the price will come way down after the draft or even after the 1st round, So do not be surprised if Cousins is starting for us week 0ne
