Here's Your Gov't Run Grocery Store in KC: FAILING!

  • I read the article in the OP earlier this morning, and l had more questions than anything. I’m far removed from Kansas City and l wasn’t aware state run grocery stores was a thing or how this came to be. I found this helpful.

    https://showmeinstitute.org/blog/subsidies/sun-freshs-struggles-were-predictableand-predicted/

Apparently it was an attempt to fill a perceived need in an underserved community (aka poor community) in an attempt to spark some urban renewal, basically hoping others would invest in the area around it with a shiny new grocery store.

It stands to reason that if an actual grocery store that does this sort of thing for a living can’t make it work, they won’t be able to make it work either.

Regardless of what you do or don't follow, you should recognize the biased trash gateway pundit is. But then again, that's kind of the point. These sites exist just to regurgitate ideas you already believe back to you. You may not be a "follower" of gateway pundit but you found it, read it, and shared it for a reason.

Wow your dumber than I feared... What you pay for is your business Goober.. I don't give a shit.. Keep deflecting , Moron...

You led with "unlink you" in your last post.

But we've been down this path before. You seem to immediately forget what you just posted. Or you have lost all reading comprehension ability. Regardless, you seem to get lost like this constantly.

I sincerely mean this but I think you're one of the dumbest individuals I've even "met".

If you want to use gateway pundit as a legitimate source that speaks more about you and your media literacy abilities than anything else.

The argument then becomes it should be done more as a public good, to alleviate a food desert, than it should be to "make a profit". In my first post, that our MAGA reactionaries didn't read, I mentioned how capitalism isn't going to solve issues like this. It's our government's job to step up in those instances

Maybe? Access to good healthy food is a concern l have too, especially for underserved communities, but there are different ways to get to that goal. It’s partially why l liked RFK Jr. last year. He’s definitely a quirky guy but he seemed committed to cleaning up the food supply and making it accessible.

The link l shared indicated there’s already a couple other grocery stores in the community. I don’t know the area so l don’t know how close they actually are, but supply and demand is always going to be an important factor.

Cleaning up the food supply and making it accessible are two very different things.

Yes, with pure capitalism and "the market decides" we're just gonna follow supply and demand. That doesn't always serve all of the people adequately. There isn't adequate demand for many hospitals/the services offered in rural areas, but our government subsidizes them. Same thing with getting mail to rural areas. Not cost effective but it's a function of the government.

No unlike you... I don't follow anything or anyone.. I don't do "Subscriptions" to anything because my $$'s are better spent elsewhere.. I couldn't care less about the "Gateway Pundit" or any other outlet for that matter..

What exactly do I follow or pay a subscription to?

Regardless of what you do or don't follow, you should recognize the biased trash gateway pundit is. But then again, that's kind of the point. These sites exist just to regurgitate ideas you already believe back to you. You may not be a "follower" of gateway pundit but you found it, read it, and shared it for a reason.

You tell me. Something plants leftist ideas in your head.

  • Again, I'd defer to local reporting, or at least much less biased reporting. Quick reading shows millions for the shopping center, and a delay in getting funding to the grocery store. Probably also some incompetence involved, like in most everything. One example in one spot isn't proof of something not working. Though I know conservatives love just running with singular anecdotes.

Food deserts are a real thing. Capitalism isn't perfect. Far from it. Leaving it up to capitalism you get low income neighborhoods without access to fresh foods/grocery stores and just fast food/convenience stores. I think government run or government subsidized grocery stores in these food desert areas makes sense.

The government’s job at what level?

What is more concerning is what you didn’t read.

The real tragedy is that Kansas City could have directed those resources toward improving public safety, supporting neighborhood-scale entrepreneurship, or partnering with existing grocery providers willing to operate without public subsidy. All of those approaches would have been more fiscally responsible and, most likely, more sustainable than what the city did.

As policymakers consider next steps, they would do well to revisit the early warnings and lessons from Sun Fresh. The problem was never just about food access. It was about how we define, diagnose, and address the challenges facing our neighborhoods.

This was a foreseeable failure. Hopefully, our policymakers learn from it.

You whined about capitalism not being perfect. What is? In the end being not perfect is still better than you not having a clue on how to perfect it.

Socialism fails because it has never been applied properly. Yeah that must be it. Then tell us how it could be applied properly.

This is what drove out grocery stores in the first place. Now they want to pretend they're stepping in to help where people have a hard time getting fresh food?

Funny how the class clown steps right in it. 'food deserts'.....?
