  • I am not worried about the backs, at least from an initial look.

A few have been mentioned...another who look stout is that kid we signed from the USFL or whatever FL it is called.  Tua?  something like that.  Stout player who runs with authority.

  • I watched a Panther feed.  I've seen nor heard nothing about the game from media yet.

As someone who is pulling for Sanders,  I think he would've been walking towards the tunnel not being very satisfied with his performance.

I think that he missed some really easy throws, especially while on the move, which has been a knock on him.  And when the pass wasn't there while the pocket was breaking apart he kept going backwards to try and go sandlot, which has been a knock on him.  So I think those plays are going to have him rolling around in bed instead of sleeping tonight.

Having said that, it wasn't all bad.  He did make some nice throws.  He never looked lost or confused to me.  It never looked like the game was too fast or that the stage was too big.  If I were Stef, I'd walk up to him and say something like, You've got stuff to work on!  But you did alright out there.

I'll add this, early in the game he scrambled around the right side, ran upfield, got the first down and hit the ground with a beautiful slide.  My brain said out loud, ALREADY he's smarter than Watson!  🙂

Other stuff:  #49 was always around the ball.  Making tackles, assisting on tackles, just being a PITA to the offense.  Was good to see.

#84 did a  good job.  He caught passes, caught the punts, seems to be pretty quick afoot.  Was good to see.

#80 caught one over the middle and tried to muscle his body towards the first down yardage.  He didn't get it, but the Panthers had to call in the cavalry because they were getting a Thrashing.  🙂   Was good to see.

#53 did a pretty good job I thought...

I want to see our OTHER kicker out there for the next game.  Hopkins missed one extra point, and ALMOST missed another.  The only kick that looked good was the short FG.   - Was not good to see.

And Huntley did well considering he only just got a uniform...and must know that he's got no spot on the team unless multiple QB's get hurt.

It was a good start for Sanders with a lot of stuff to work on.  One thing that would be nice is to see him WITH offensive teammates on the sidelines between series like a leader of men, which this position demands.  He's a confident guy - he can do that.

We all saw the game so we saw why before the draft he was often discussed by some pretty well paid draft analysts as one of the best 2 QB prospects. 2 of those guys (McShay & Kiper) rarely agree on stuff except they both felt the same about Sanders.  I'm not gonna get as silly as the media bandwagon that got rolling last night because there were bad habits that teams regular season opponents would game plan for.  Inexperience even gave a guy like Josh Allen growing pains so it'll be interesting to see how this organization does with this whole situation.  And YES both Deion & LeBron were out there in social media joining in on it.

As you can tell, I've been trying to ask people why they can't wait to spend a 1st round pick on a QB in 2026.  Again, the MAIN reason Sanders wasn't drafted early by ANY of the teams that needed a QB was his father ran his mouth how many of them he didn't want his son to play for.  He made some comment in social media they flashed yesterday that makes me understand why some guys are still going to be interested in the 2026 QBs.

Here's how I think I'm going to proceed.  1 week/game at a time.  This week, it was nice to see him show the good stuff he's capable of doing.  Remember when someone was previously pointing out the fluttering/wobbley passes?  I laughed and called those Billy Kilmer spirals because a lot of them are accurate and completed. That said, 1 of his TD passes to Davis threaded the needle in the end zone with zip and a tight spiral.  Actually both TD passes to the same guy had accurate tight spirals.  What was the 1 thing the draft analysts that considered him as one of the top 2 QB prospects said?  He's the most accurate QB in the draft class.  He's good with the 3rd or 4th best TE so just imagine what he can accomplish with the 1st 2 very talented TEs. I want him confident, not cocky (like his dad is - because his dad always backed it up. He's not his dad yet and I like that.)

There's plenty to work on and we saw it.  Those Jerome Ford like retreats way behind the line of scrimmage against the AFC North and other defenses could be show stoppers.  The footwork has a lot of room for improvement. I Hopefully, the volume of QBs will decrease to the level he'll get more work.  I hope the Browns do this like Bernie Kosar reminded people about his rookie year when Danielson started the first 5-6 games or so; and then he got to take over while Mack and Byner were both pacing themselves for over 1000 yards apiece on the ground. It's a little different era so maybe they could swap the experienced to less experienced starter even sooner IF Sanders builds on what we saw. Also keep in mind, Carolina was exactly world beaters last year so let's see what happens before I make any more statements like that.

There's the 1st World According to Wundumson called Flugel of the season; and I'm sticking to it...

  • Wow Floriea. That was a pretty one hander.

My favorite play of the night!  It could come right down to keeping him or a 4th QB here...

It was a fun game to watch both sides of the ball and ST kickoffs. A lot of highly motivated and contagious play out there. I think this will be a fun season to watch regardless of the final record. The truth will lie in how this FO makes its cuts to the final 53. If Ford and Strong are still on the team, then Berry & Depo should be cut.

Maybe the biggest roster spot(s) on the line come of the ability to develop a young QB this franchise drafted in this era. It takes an entire village that was hired by the owner so let's hope some of this stuff starts getting better a fortune...  Let's hope Tommy Rees and the QB Coach are game changers here...

I liked a lot of what I saw... Can't argue with any of the points you made.. But one area that concerns me.. He needs to tuck that ball in better when he's truckin it with his legs.. Experienced defenses will take advantage that.. We all know how important ball security is in this league.... I saw some great passes.. And some not so great... But the calm cool effort is there.. At times he reminded me of Lamar Jackson with just a bit better mechanics throwing wise.. And then I saw things that looked Bradyesque.. Nice debut.. But some rough edges needs to be polished like all rookies... But I gotta give credit where its due... But I also keep in mind.. It was the Panthers.... Another concern... Kevin still needs to do better controlling his players.. you can't have guys getting ejected.. Thats a reflection on him.. We need to see better discipline on that end ...

Did you notice when that kid came off the field?  They showed it on the sidelines.  Stef was right up next to his facemask talking at him.  And not just a couple of words.  He was giving him a helmet full.

----  So, I just watched the condensed version for a better look.  When the draft ended, one of the guys they signed as part of their first batch of signings was Marshall.  I immediately looked him up and saw that he rushed for over 100 yards in each of his final 5 college games.  I liked his size.  He doesn't have blazing speed but he showed that he's fast enough.  The team didn't run the ball too well (blocking) but all of the RB's that played did a nice job and ran hard.   I think there's going to be some difficult decisions for that group when cutting time comes around.

  • There were certainly a lot of positives, stuff to build on. The D was swarming.

The biggest negative, something this franchise can't seem to shake, were the pre-snap penalties.

I'm just happy it's (close) to football season.

We watched most Colorado games last few years - not as much an underdog team last year. Sanders really impressed. Of course, he did some dumb things - a few throws with feet not set that went screwy. Two times the attempted double shake-offs in the backfield - one actually did work. The two touchdown passes were just excellent. He wasn't lost out there at all - knew what he was doing. Very smart. The nfl is faster - didn't seem to faze Sanders.

I believe the new OC has had made a huge improvement in Stefanski's play-calling. Maybe that won't last long when the regular season starts.

Oh, Lavadain? Small wr can play. Never heard of him before. 5'8", 171 lbs. wow.

  • It was an ok debut by Sanders. Some good and some bad, but there wasn’t a whole lot of completely awful. No Ints and only 1 sack.

I was at Blossom last night taking in a concert, so I couldn’t watch the game.

I just finished watching the replay on NFL Network, and I agree with you.

Let’s not overreact, we’re Browns fans and we’ve seen this before in preseason.

There were certainly a lot of positives, stuff to build on.

5'8", 171 lbs. wow.

I'm glad Larvadain's gone from S. Caro. Kid was definitely SEC level WR there and has the quicks for sure. And we play them in College Station this year without him to bedevil us.

I'm Out of "reactions" for the day, but I agree.

Why can we only "react" 10 times in 24 hours? We're Browns fans, highly emotional lol.

I think that most of the pre snap penalties came in the 2nd half so we were probably getting pretty deep into the roster by then.  Sanders had a couple of dropped passes but he also had one INT that didn't occur because #84, Gage, played defense and broke it up.

I've now had a chance to see some of the media headlines...and of course, it's all about Sanders being great.  🙂  I was much more tempered in my post game evaluation of him.  But I was happy to see that it went alright for him.

Ya know, we've seen a boatload of rookie QB's take their first NFL snaps in preseason.  We've seen some look lost and overwhelmed, we've seen some look good....and everything in between.  I was quite pleased to see that he made sure that the guys were lined up correctly and he got the ball snapped without having to rush to beat the delay of game penalty.  So many rookie QB's get that penalty.  They have you growing grey hair as the ball is not snapped and the clock is winding under 5 seconds.  It's a distraction from good rhythm and can break concentration and focus on the pre snap scanning of the defense...not just for the QB, but for the rest of the offense as well.

  • Did Mary Kay actually use the word “Legendary” on a preseason performance? ??

    I can't stand that qunt!

  • Late to the party, watched the game but working this weekend. Very encouraged with Shedeur's debut, he showed command of the offense and ability to read (albeit vanilla) defenses. Maintained accuracy after a shaky start and made some throws I've never seen a Browns rookie make since '99. Didn't panic against Panther's starting defense like DTR so let's hope we have something long term here. A good starting QB on a 5th round salary would make this team superb.

The team as a whole looked quite good, Graham and Schlesinger are studs and I hope Floreia makes the team despite his hamstring injury.

Yeah, nice catch.  But of the midget receivers I was more impressed with that Gage guy, Larvadain #84.  He did the better job with the punts.

It's kinda' sad that the media is what it has become.  Click bait and hype.  It's a competition.  Everyone has to overblow everything.  They have to get people to read THEIR stuff....and to get people to quote THEM and THEIR thoughts.  Now a coach can tell his team to 'block out the noise' all he wants...but he can't take their phones away from them.  They're all walking around with the 'noise' in their pockets.

Hopefully Sanders stays grounded.  He did some good things out there.  But he's got plenty to work on.  And Gabriel is going to get his shots at staying ahead of him on the depth chart.

I'm glad that the team had some success in their first pre season game.  But it IS just pre season.  And they were playing the backups for a team who's starters weren't that good last year.

Larvadain was better on punts, I think Floreia muffed his. I hated the Gabriel pick and said so here on draft day before Shedeur was drafted. Personally I think he's a career back up but I guess they have to go through the motions.
