  • What a perfect way to end this shittastic season!

  • Oh boy, here we go

  • Ahhh Let's alienate the fans some more...

  • My thing with Watson is, when he's in the game he doesn't play smart.  When he takes off running he thinks that he's going to bowl over defensive players instead of sliding.  I want a QB that's smarter than that.  No matter how good you might be, you're no freakin' good on IR.

    Pretty sure after 2026 it expires.

    And here would be my question. Are we certain that any QB we draft in 2026 would be any better than a healthy DW? My answer would be no, we are not sure because we know he had success in Houston already. Get him a decent OL and then see what the questions are from there. We improved our DL in one off season and draft. FO needs to do the same with the OL. And I have not been impressed with any of the possible college QB's available in the 2026 draft.

    I have zero interest watching Kevin Stefanski and Deshaun Watson try to work together again.

    If Stefanski gets fired, the only thing I would get out of Watson starting for the Browns would be seeing the selective moral outrage from the dark corner of this board all up in their feelings again.

    But seriously, just no. I'd rather them roll out Sanders all next season and see if he's possibly starting QB material or do the Browns need to draft a QB in the '27 Draft.

    If the Browns are going to continue to pretend they're all set at Offensive Tackle - nobody is going to work at QB. How many games do we have to watch from Flacco to Gabriel to Sanders to see a WR Corps without a legit #1 WR without ANY pass pro from the Tackles. The sum of crap is none of our WRs get open immediately to bail QBs out of the hopelessness. NEXT YEAR, maybe people will listen to me when I say we need to improve LT (as well as RT).

    I understand Dawand Jones went to Ohio State; BUT I also understand they were smart enough to realize that ain't a LT or a high effort guy.  Bill Callahan's reaction to Jones showing up at about 400 pounds to his 1st NFL Training Camp was this is your response to getting an ideal opportunity in the NFL?  That's not an inner chest a REAL FO would lean on but here they are 3 IR visits later summing up surgery went well we hope he returns to pre-injury form (countless all you can eat buffets?). Good luck with that...

    Geez, you'd think the guy hung out with Epstein for at least 15 years before it got all redacted today.

    I'm warming up to the Sanders idea for 2027 because a draft without Offensive Tackles or WRs is like a year without sunshine...

     Not that the OL was perfect in 2022, 2023 and 2024... but when we compartmentalize Waton's snaps, there were a great many where he was the primary problem.

     Dude might still have it physically, but the question has been between his ears since middle 2023.

    You may be right; but I think he's more of a major symptom of a bigger problem.   He's not the disabling disease of the organization but he's disabled from the disease running & ruining this franchise. What ever made him such a gotta have that the Browns made the move to pull the trigger on it all?   You probably know this answer better than the Browns did - and therein resides the overall problem.  They never knew what type of offense they needed so they square pegged round hole with Stefansky's comfort zone where 100% of his NFL experience was exclusively restricted to the Minnesota Vikings only. When the Browns were still firing OCs and assistants in the 3rd year of the Watson plan - ummm, they had no plan.

    Here's the guy playing for Houston (that had a plan for who they drafted) vrs the guy playing for Cleveland (in operation wing it & fling it).  It's possible he woke up really dumb QB in Cleveland as speculated by many; but I blame the Browns for making such a move without ever understanding what he excelled at up against his weaknesses. Anyway, 3 of those seasons in Houston below - Houston went to the playoffs with 1 of those seasons including a playoff W vrs Josh Allen & the Bills (due to a last minute drive for the go ahead W).  So, at Clemson he faced a Nick Saban Bama defense loaded with NFL prospects and erased a deficit in the closing seconds to lead Clemson to winning the Natty.  Nick Saban usually confused Dumb QBs as a former NFL DC with the Browns last playoff team of the 90s and well into his transition from the Big 10 to LSU and then Alabama.  Watson wasn't one of them.

    Maybe the question we should be asking is why is Cleveland the only team Watson looked like a dumb QB with?  That said, I will acknowledge he took way too many sacks for comfort in Houston. In Cleveland he was projecting the same amount of sacks; but he was only surviving 6-7 starts per season.

    I have serious doubts how much gas he has left in his tank physically.

  • Personally, I've seen enough of Watson.  He plays dumb.  He gets himself  hurt all the time.....lowering his head and taking on tacklers when running with the ball instead of sliding.  I've got no use for a QB like that.

    And someone's gotta teach Shedeur the proper sliding technique...but apparently we don't have anyone in the organization that knows how to teach that.

  • Regarding Watson:

    • this is truly a bad PR move by our beloved Browns-how many gut punches do we fans have to take?
    • Watson's brain is fried, totally self-inflicted. Not many people would be strong enough mentally to overcome all the stuff thrown his way. Doubtful he ever recovers, and frankly, only had a moments of his former self here when he did play
    • I can't imagine a scenario where he takes the field and fans like it

    Unfortunately, most of his dumb football is exclusive to Cleveland.  After his rookie year, he only missed 1 game and I'm not sure if it was because they already clinched a playoff berth or an injury. During his rookie year he tore an ACL in practices where you can't hit the QB.  UH-OH! "HOUSTON, FLUGEL HAS A PROBLEM HERE!" I just solidified your point.

    Good point about Shedeur.

    After knee and Achilles issues, the doubts are warranted.  That said, modern medicine is a hell of a thing.   When I was a kid, a shredded knee was a death sentence.

    Mostly it was his "complete" ability at QB, having a physical and mentally complimentary game.  He had great abilities between the ears, then his physical attributes bolstered that.

    @flugel said:

    Bringing Watson on board there was a clear shift from the UC/ outside zone and PAP that was 30% of the offense to a more gun-based, vertical zone with more RPO's, glances, post-snap sight adjusts and a high percentage intermediate game.   There was also a targeted change in personnel, namely along the OL moving towards bigger bodies that would be working in shorter space.  (Think, like Dawand but not quite that scale for every OL target)

    I can't agree that there wasn't a sizable conversation on what may have been needed to further tailor the Browns to an offense that more resembled some of what the Texans had run.

     I don't think he woke up dumb.  But when Watson finally looked like he was getting up to speed, he had a season ending injury against Baltimore and never recovered.    I was as patient with Watson as anyone, but what he put on film wasn't great.  He struggled at times to execute even the most fundamental things.

    @flugel said:

    Nick Saban couldn't beat an NFL wash out in Cardale Jones with a 21-6 lead.  He couldn't consistently stop Johnny Manziel either.    While his defenses are a benchmark, they aren't the end-all.

    Not enough sample size to look smarter elsewhere?  Not saying it isn't possible, just unlikely.  He took a lot of sacks in Houston.  Some because of the OL, some because he tried too much to play hero ball and to carry the offense.
