we stayed at a Hilton the entire area decked out for the holidays, well the next morning we went to a place called grits and gravy (one of the few black owned restaurants in the city) food was awesome and we made our way to the train station, A half hour delay turned into a 2 hour delay, so we found a sports bar ( called fields , a real nice place for the location) all I can say is thank god for alcohol cause that was some ugly ass shit to watch, oh well Portland is not burning down as some orange guy said and I did not see any homeless eating cats or dogs

Did you have grits or gravy? Or both?

I like to put jelly in my grits. I know that’s an embarrassing thing to admit.

Biscuits and gravy is one of my most favoritest things in the world. Splash some hot sauce on it. That’s basically how l imagine heaven.

Be that as it may, our IOL guys are paid mighty well already, so it stands to reason we can afford it. There were a few plays the Bears’ IOL really popped. The push was noticeable.

Wasn't *just* the push - Ben Johnson has done a great job getting his OL setup to utilize good angles by design.

Players have to win their assignment and be setup to win that assignment.

All credit to the Bears coaching staff, it's an impressive young group so far. They've improved defensively as the season has gone on as well.

Yes, this is reason #2 in my mind that we need to part ways with Stefanski. A HC & staff changes could make a huge difference.

It's just a shame that everything has sunk to this level of performance. Stefanski was 37-30 at one point, but it's time to move on.

Berry didn't hire KS, so if he's canned, AB will "get his guy," although a new coach will have the same type of roster/salary cap issues.

Can't really expect things to change while inheriting the same roster issues then.

Almost feels like we've really arrived at a bit of a causality.

It is likened to scrapple. It’s basically pork belly, steel cut oats and spices mixed into a damn fine breakfast sausage type thing. It’s German in origin, and a big deal in Cincy.

You have ties to Cincy yeah?

  • @ibleedbrown said:

The good news is the Bears seemed to fix their Oline in one off season. I recall during the broadcast they talked about how they got a new center and 2 new guards, so the IOL was brand new as of this year.

If they can do it, maybe we can too.

Problem is I believe the three interior OLinemen they got were all veterans acquired through trades/free agency.

Our cap problems makes doing something like that difficult

    @dutch-oven said:

    /free agency.

We've got to bring in one veteran who can hold a spot down in FA.   And then draft more.

  • I say we keep Stefanski. He’s easily the best coach we’ve had since “the return” and l don’t think there’s any question about that. Give him another year.

At the moment, I give that about a 15% chance of happening.

I was in that camp as well, but there's something clearly wrong.

    • either he forgot how to coach (doubtful) or his players aren't listening/learning
    • the Special Teams haven't improved on kick coverage or kick blocking; the punter was damn near all-pro and basically stinks now; is this a roster problem (depth) or coaching?
    • Stefanski used to beat Cincy, Baltimore, & Pittsburgh, this year 0-4

Ultimately, with the front office, players, and coaches doing a year-end season review, if the players have lost confidence in the HC he's toast.

I got a theory. He’s trying to get fired. He wants out of this shitshow. I say we call his bluff and make him continue coaching this shitshow. It’ll force him to be a good coach again.

I believe if we draft a qb with our top pick then we would want a new coach to grow with him, but if we stick with sanders  keep stefanski and let the shit continue till 27 then we can draft Manning with the first over all pick

Well, unless Haslam's are setting up a different structure,  the GM doesn't get "his guy".  KS and AB report individually to ownership.   HC doesn't report to GM in the current org structure

I understand all that, DePo was in on that as well.

My point is AB will have more say-so on the hire, unlike last time.

It's speculation & draft talk season, again.

FWIW, Stefanski was hired before Berry was in the same year.  It was the 2nd time he became DePodesta's #1 candidate and he got his way.   I've been reluctant to jump on the bandwagon to fire the HC; but there's a lot of confusion during the games with the Offense and Special Teams.  When the offense takes the field - they should have the play, break the huddle and be at the line of scrimmage before there's only 4 seconds to get the snap off.  Special Teams is a disaster.  Stefanski was hired as a HC meaning all 3 phases (and he never has to do a thing for the Defense when we think about it).  It's been a fail until it's stale story for 2 straight years. Time for a change AGAIN.  Now we have to hope for 2 things: 1) a decent candidate interested in working for Jimmy; 2) Jimmy uses better hiring criteria than he's used all the other times...

When you really think about it - we become a support group every year we're obviously missing the playoffs.  More specifically, we've had a lot of practice - in a world where practice makes perfect.
