There-in lies the point. It isn't about the player comparison, but the sample size itself, using the same logic.

i will put it this way then, I believe the ceiling is alot higher for Sanders than Dillions

I suppose I shouldn't have said "we", which was a more targeted plural.

What you're saying is, that Sanders has shown more in that same sample size than Gabriel. Which is perfectly fine.

I'm just being devils advocate here. If the sample size was good enough for Gabriel, yet not for Sanders, then we're not being consistent in our evaluations.

I feel the ceiling is low for both at this point... But... I think a QB needs at least two seasons before you close the book on them..

You might be right, but I’m convinced that with this offense a rookie Aaron Rodgers would have looked rough too

  • You draft a cockpit for Sanders and give him some outside weapons.  Find an offensive minded QB oriented HC and staff (do we have any takers with Haslem $hit show?).  Give Sanders another season. I’d feel confident at that point about whether the position is fixed or not.

If it isn’t you have a support in place for the next guy (personnel and staff) so we don’t have 27 QB prospects running for the hills to avoid us.

We are so bad you have to start somewhere I don’t think somewhere is a QB in 2026.

im intrigued by a guy like Taylen Green Arkansas who is raw as can be but has some some major tools.  Give him a look in Day 3

By the way, Aaron Rodgers had to wait 3 years to start on a better team than we have offensively.

John Madden would be all over me like a dog rolling in Limburger cheese "DO YOU KNOW HE HAD BRETT FAVRE IN FRONT OF HIM?"

The smart ass in me woulda asked "Are you sure?" Steve McNair also had to wait 2-3 years as well...

    So:

  • I don’t know how Sanders will pan out, but I’m on the same page as SDBacker.

Unless the Browns end up with the #1 pick and can take Mendoza (and I’m not sure yet I really want that scenario to play out) I say play Sanders net season and go heavy this offseason on the OLine and WR corps. See what we have in him, and if he’s not the guy, grab one in 2027.

I’m hoping the Browns end up with the second overall pick, trade down and get a high second this draft and first next draft again.

  • @dutch-oven said:

So if the Browns end up with the #2 pick you would be comfortable taking a 20 year old with about 20 college starts in Dante Moore?

I can't think of many top flight NFL QBs who came into the pros that young and that inexperienced, and you know the Browns won't be patient and slowly bring him along. (This goes to @tiamat63 too)

My general rule of thumb is to never draft a QB with that few starts.     But there are exceptions to every rule...

    @orion said:

I don't think we can know that from a handful of games in his rookie season.

But do we believe Gabriel Dillon to be average or below average based on a similar sample size?

Yes.  He's a midget.  Next question.

If you can draft in front of the Raiders and Jets the possibilities open up.

Arizona, New Orleans, Miami could also look QB and they could all end up in the Top 10.

I don’t see the Browns or Giants staying put unless they have to….both could/should trade back.

I don’t see Mendoza changing his draft stock he will meet with teams and wow them.   But there’s Dante Moore he could get drafted this Spring and still not be able to buy a beer or could get Nike money to stay in Eugene or go out and play well in the playoff and get an agent and others in his ear that he’s the top guy - so he would enter the draft.  Moore is interesting he left UCLA to sit a year behind our very own Dillon Gabriel - interesting move in this time.  Maybe hinting that he has no problem playing the long game enjoying college and getting paid a lot too. Interesting fact and I had no idea He was born in Cleveland.

Two guys at the top and some starving teams we can start naming the price.

  • anyone who thinks we should draft a QB with our first pick is a fucking idiot

I sure as hell do not need you to tell me wtf I was saying, so what you are saying is that we should draft a QB maybe move up to #1 to get the pos from Indiana and hell lets give away some more picks to get that bum and ruin the browns for a few more years ? cause thats what it sound like What You Are Saying

  • The Browns need an offensive line.

  • A AP1

Are you sure?  ?    The sad thing is - if only our FO knew this.  We needed one heading into this year; but Berry treated it like the DT position in 2022 when he blew it off despite wanting lighter LBers to defend the pass.  Well, people aren't gonna pass on you when you already gave their running games a red carpet welcome (more specifically a gimme).  I still remember Atlanta running what felt like a 10K with the football between the tackles. It felt like our entire LBer corps was on IR or playing injured - that year for obvious reasons mentioned.

Dude.... I was just clarifying between yourself and any difference in measure Orion might have had.  That's all.

Speaking of Golden Globes. Hope they give her one cause she was every schoolboy's fantasy with hers growing up. RIP Brigitte Bardot, gone today at 91. ?

    ? I don't know why I wasn't expecting that; but it's still freakin funny.

While we're at it here, folks please don't mention who has the higher ceiling between our 2 rookies.  If we understand the part in bold above - the rest is a gimme.

  • Shadeur should start next season, he showed more skills, more arm than Gabriel. But the Browns have to draft a qb after round three I think.

Shadeur does some bonehead stuff, but he's a rookie. Will he still be doing it next year or so? who knows. Maybe that is just Shadeur, like some qb's throw interceptions  a lot of their career and never grow from it.

This next season, they can draft qb's with all the tools in the later rounds that are far better picks than Gabriel.

Gabriel had numbers, in college, had a powerful cast around him. Who wasn't stunned they picked him where they did?

       some ideas, and good reading:

"Clemson's Cade Klubnik received plenty of praise after a strong 2024 season. Joining him will be Garrett Nussmeier (LSU) and Drew Allar (Penn State) as well-known prospects. Scouts are also buzzing about Sawyer Robertson (Baylor) and LaNorris Sellers (South Carolina) as high-upside prospects to watch."

    ***********************

"This list always looks longer at this time of the year compared to how it will look when we get to draft day in April. But I'll offer up Nussmeier as the key name to know. I believe he has the trajectory to be a first-round pick, and he's the one I've studied the most so far (he was eligible for the 2025 draft but elected for one more season). Nussmeier throws with excellent accuracy, touch and anticipation. He is a sufficient mover and operates well in the pocket. Nussmeier threw for 4,052 yards and 29 touchdowns last season"

    ******************************

"Adam Rittenberg: Other than Allar -- who has all the desired NFL quarterback traits but lacks big-game success -- the conversation starts in the SEC."

    *****************

So, there is Allar, my first round pick before. lol.
