To Shedeur, or not to Shedeur? (draft)
-
-
Shadeur should start next season, he showed more skills, more arm than Gabriel. But the Browns have to draft a qb after round three I think.
Shadeur does some bonehead stuff, but he's a rookie. Will he still be doing it next year or so? who knows. Maybe that is just Shadeur, like some qb's throw interceptions a lot of their career and never grow from it.
This next season, they can draft qb's with all the tools in the later rounds that are far better picks than Gabriel.
Gabriel had numbers, in college, had a powerful cast around him. Who wasn't stunned they picked him where they did?
some ideas, and good reading:
https://nfldraftdiamonds.com/2025/12/small-school-qbs/
and
"Clemson's Cade Klubnik received plenty of praise after a strong 2024 season. Joining him will be Garrett Nussmeier (LSU) and Drew Allar (Penn State) as well-known prospects. Scouts are also buzzing about Sawyer Robertson (Baylor) and LaNorris Sellers (South Carolina) as high-upside prospects to watch."
***********************
"This list always looks longer at this time of the year compared to how it will look when we get to draft day in April. But I'll offer up Nussmeier as the key name to know. I believe he has the trajectory to be a first-round pick, and he's the one I've studied the most so far (he was eligible for the 2025 draft but elected for one more season). Nussmeier throws with excellent accuracy, touch and anticipation. He is a sufficient mover and operates well in the pocket. Nussmeier threw for 4,052 yards and 29 touchdowns last season"
******************************
"Adam Rittenberg: Other than Allar -- who has all the desired NFL quarterback traits but lacks big-game success -- the conversation starts in the SEC."
*****************
So, there is Allar, my first round pick before. lol.
-
then there is Mark Gronowski - who transferred to Iowa. In the fourth-fifth round, I would pick him in .3 seconds. I still think he gets picked before Shadeur was picked.
-
Aug 7, 2025Phil Steele, a long-time college football writer, has liked what he has seen from Gronowski. Steele released his top 25 quarterback prospects for the 2026 NFL Draft with Gronowski making the cut. In Steele's top 25 quarterback prospects for the 2026 NFL Draft list, he named Gronowski as his No. 18 overall quarterback.
-
Jun 7, 2025Despite snubbing the NFL last year, he still finds himself ranked as one of ESPN's top NFL QB draft prospects in the 2026 draft. Mark Gronowski, Iowa Gronowski had a historic career at South Dakota State, leading the Jackrabbits to two national championships and tying for the most-ever wins (49) for an FCS starting quarterback. -

Sanders has some very good skills and is improving. Gabriel is a good kid, but not really an NFL quarterback. The smartest thing would be to keep Sanders, hope he improves enough to become a decent qb, and draft O linemen and receivers in the draft. It would make no sense, to draft a qb, except maybe the later rounds and hope you get a good back up. We don't really know who will be drafting players, so it's hard to say. Why would we have any hope for a qb in the draft, with Berry making those choices? I'm really hoping he's gone at the end of the season. The only thing about Sanders....I have no use for his following. do we really want all the crap that comes with him? If it wasn't for his cult, I would be all in on Sanders. It's not like he really has any control over these idiots, though. He seems almost humble, and speaks intelligently, but is confident....exactly what you want from a rookie qb.

Excellent post by the way.
I don't think you have to worry about drafting a QB in round 1. There's only 1 worth drafting and he's going to the Raiders. But as you say, we don't even know who will be doing the drafting for us. There's always a chance that new people go berserk for their new QB and trade away a ton of assets...but I think that Sanders and the defense have quashed any chances of that by beating the Steelers and dropping us to pick #6. I think from there, whomever, will do as you suggest and draft OL & WR. - Of course, perhaps Schwartz is handed the HC job and he drafts a Safety or something.

This is the Browns wouldn't put anything past them, remember they started Training camp with 4 QBs. If the Giants are at 2 and the Browns think a QB they've graded highly is there don't be surprised by a trade up. Sheduer deserves a season with an upgraded OL and WR corps but......

Oh Jesus... You must be drunk and over reacting again... It was a dig at Skip Bayless you dork!
-
Well if you all are to build around him, if he can really be an elite QB. As it has been like forever that Cleveland has a long-term QB!

Wow now that was uncalled for you fucking pig.. Grow up you dumb asshole!

Okay, at least we have an idea of what brotherly love in Philly is like where Santa Claus gets booed and pelted by snowballs; while their old stadium used to have a jail and court room in it. When you serve alcohol & seat 60,000 Ghoolies - you better plan ahead. He always took that as a huge compliment (we got along sometimes). The current stadium only has holding cells; but THIS AIN'T PHILLY. It's Syd & Nickers!
Spoiler alert, these 2 guys have been hired to cover the Browns when they take the field at Brook Park. They will be the 1st tandem separated by Plexiglass in the same booth commentating games. Not to instigate anything; but viewers would be very disappointed if they weren't hearing about any pranks along the way.
If you've ever seen either version of "The Parent Trap" as a kid - this one is very similar. The only difference is they're not going to find out the truth until they're both back in diapers again when they can't understand it. Stay tuned...

anyone who thinks we should draft a QB with our first pick is a fucking idiot
No fucking idiot here pal.
To the point, If we are sitting at 6-7, we shouldn't take a QB. Even at that point it would be too expensive to move up. If at 3 it might make sense to get that done.
I am resolved that we will go with Sanders though i would give one last effort to see what Watson has. If he is better than Sanders, he should play.
Both have baggage so it doesn't really matter though for a long term deal, sanders will probably play.
If Sanders plays well, good deal. I am all for that. If not the usual numbskulls will blame the coach for being racist, no weapons, bad playcalling, receivers who suck, O-line that can't block, an inferior cook in the team kitchen.
JMO here, but Shedufus is a stuck in the middle QB at best. We will win 6-9 games a year, maybe get a wildcard or two on our way to a one and out playoff run. .JMO on something else, and again, I hope I am wrong, but Brownsfans are eager to settle for mediocre because that is better than what most/many have seen in their lifetimes. Bernie was out last good to great QB. He retired 30-31 years ago. To actually remember with some cognitive reason, you need to be maybe 40 years old. I think you are and know that many others are that old, but just saying.
I hope it works out for the guy. Tell you what, if I live long enough to see it, if you are right and if I'm wrong, I will meet you in the middle of wherever you live ( decent sized city) and buy you a steak dinner. I'll pick the place because I am not sure you know where to go. You can approve. I say I because I have some club memberships that maybe you can't access. If you do, then great, we will go there on your membership. If I win, you come to Chattanooga and buy me a couple of drinks. Just standards Manhattans. No Pappy, just standard, Bullet Rye, Whistle Pig or some Woodward reserve type liquor.
Time frame. Maybe 3 years but if he does well, say two, I don't want to die out on you.

I'm up for a few bourbons myself lol, let's all meet up at Buffalo Trace!
Regarding Watson, I'd be shocked if he can come back and play at an NFL level. Simply not enough reps in what, 4 years? Not impossible but unlikely. But yes, he will be rostered, the cap hit is too much.
You're right, we haven't had a solid QB in so long, it's almost impossible to fathom.

Good points Bob! Supply and demand has to come into play this year though. Again, the reality is that the Raiders, Jets and Browns are scaring many draft eligible QB prospects back to college football in 2026 to earn $ millions instead of feeling like beat up Hollywood stunt men. It is what it is.
When they checked out the Cleveland Browns and saw Cam Robinson protecting nobody at LT - I can't blame them 1 bit for not wanting any part of the Browns organization best known for screwing up the QB position. Do we have any proof Jimmy Haslam knows how to protect a QB investment? Heading into 2026 - the Browns don't have 1 starting caliber OTackle. That's not just sad - it's pathetic.
