Currently our 2025 first round pick is....

I want to see more of OT Francis Mauigoa Miami in the finals against Indiana's D. I intend to keep a close eye, because I'm read several have him as a top 10 or less pick before either of the Utah OTs.

You take the BEST Tackle; and Jed Wills was NOT the best Tackle at #10 overall where the Berry selected him. Wirfs was the best OTackle and Tampa drafted him at #13 overall because of Berry's blunder. Wirfs has made Pro Bowls at RT before making Pro Bowls at LT. I think he's also been an All Pro 2 or 3 times. Even if just a coincidence - TB has been able to run and pass pretty well since he was drafted. If the Browns drafted Wirfs - LT wouldn't be a an enormous need today...
Not for nothing, the HC where Wirfs played college football (Iowa) is Kirk Ferentz. Why is this significant? Ferentz was the Oline Coach for the Browns from 93-95 meaning if Berry knew what he was doing - he should have made it a point to establish a network/opportunity for his scouts at Iowa. Even at the very least, Ferentz would have told him Wirfs had a work ethic that wouldn't allow him to fail. There's all kinds of things to research about OL prospects that Berry understands like a foreign language. Ferentz probably would have loved to help given his background with the Browns. Just a quick interview with Ferentz could get great detail on linemen, TEs, DL, LBers, DBs etc....
We're getting beat because we have the worst OTackles and insufficient talent at WR to compete; so these major NEEDS have to weigh into this here.
Wirfs was a decorated wrestler. Having Wrestled and coached wrestling they all have freakish balance and could utilize leverage like no one else. Thats all we needed to know he would be athletic and strong enough regardless of his size. Wrestling is a cheat code along the line of scrimmage. If we want to find a diamond in the rough find football players that did something on the wrestling mat. Wirfs was a State Champion in Iowa, Iowa has multiple classes but it is Top 6-8 state for HS wrestling consistently. He probably could have AA in D1 wrestling
Scouting and grades really mean something at 6. You don’t select a guy that can develop into a starter at 6 - you select pro bowl potential and if the tackles are “starter” types you trade back or you select BPA. Having said that this Miami tackle is playing really well in the playoff if he’s BPA you take him

I rarely disagree with you - BUT this is different due to the very limited supply of what the Browns need most. But, let's pretend BPA is the only way to go at #6 and pretend it's a TE so we take him. Now there isn't a LT remaining that can help us due to such a limited supply that won't last until the last 2 or 3 picks of round 1. Consequently we're stuck on park at LT; while TE was already a strength. You know this. I don't care about Wirfs' wrestling background nearly as much as I care about the NFL training he got in Kirk Ferentz's football program at Iowa. You're not supposed to draft guys with best football played in the rear view mirror - you're supposed to draft them for an ability to take their prep and training to a higher level over the next 5-10 years. Here's what Wirfs accomplished at Iowa to set up the success in Tampa per cut and paste below:
Next let's see how the NFL Team that the Browns gift wrapped him to in Tampa did as a result while Jed Wills is hoping desperate NFL team wants him>
I'm pretty confident saying the Browns could use a LT like this especially when Cam Robinson #68 or Dawand Jones are the alternatives.

His current team was more comfortable playing him at RT which says all that it needs to. Fano is a RT as well as is Iowa's Gennings Dunker. I've posted there's been lot RTs being listed as LTs; which means the supply isn't nearly as big as we'd like/need it to be for the big demand of teams needing LTs. In a perfect world, I could be guaranteed we'll land Utah's LT Caleb Lomu with our 2nd first round pick somewhere between #29 & 32 overall. But we're CLEVELAND BROWNS fans so perfect rarely ever applies to us. Once we get 2 OTackles and 1 elite WR in the house by the time we're done with round 2 - I'm all about BPA for the rest of our draft.

If the call is stay at 6 and take a tackle the tackle choices are Francis Mauigoa and Fano. I don’t care if they play RT or LT - can they play on an island (and not be a better fit inside) and can they move their feet in the run game. Both possess strength. Most mocks have these two taken in the teens.
I’ve been harping on our WRs. I’m not crazy about either choice at 6 either.
If you made me choose on this date….Im taking Caleb Downs and then using the next four picks on OT,Guard, WRs

Nope, neither guy can play LT so the 2 RTs you mentioned are not in play for me at #6. I'm not budging. The limited supply for a big demand of LTs will be done by the time we make our 2nd 1st round pick. If you want to evaluate our young QB or next victim - you can't sentence them to the crap at LT and RT the Browns ended the year with. Inexcusable and unacceptable.
We're gonna agree to disagree here and that's okay. If, for some reason I'm wrong and the run on LTs has not begun yet at #6 overall (totally possible) - I don't mind trading back a little. There's a guy that plays LT for Indiana (Carter Smith) not getting the mock draft popularity RTs like Fano and Mauigoa are getting. Here's a cut and paste and maybe we CAN get this guy at the end of round 1 or in round 2.
I think there's a lot of RTs with similar skillsets and I'd be fine with getting Iowa's Gennings Dunker in round 2. Here's what I want by the end of round 2 selection (LT, RT & WR) and I'm fine with going WR before RT.
Now, I'm fine going BPA the rest of the draft.

Interesting because Walter Football predicts Downs is chosen at #5 to the Giants.

Wouldn’t surprise me…He’s arguably the best defensive talent in the draft. Gold jacket all pro potential.

With all eyes on Mendoza, I wanted to know what makes the machine go.
His LT - Carter Smith
His C - Pat Coogan
Really standing out to me.

Proctor, at least in my early viewings, suffers from the same symptoms the majority of Bama LTs before him (Leatherwood, Neal, Jonah Williams, Cam Robinson ) did.
He's a large body with incredibly heavy feet. Sadly there's a lot of history working against him.
-
Anyway, thank you Buffalo for giving us a higher draft pick.
EDIT: In fact that gives us either #21 or #22 depending upon whether NE wins or loses. We are now rooting for the Chargers to upset them.

Who said Proctor is the best LT? Have you seen him move laterally yet? He'll be an OG in the NFL. He's the next Nate Newton, which isn't a bad thing at all in terms of run blocking (and having a teammate to his right and left).

Someone just whipped up Kadyn Proctor (Nate Newton Jr) as a #6 overall. He scares me because I'm not sure he has the lateral movement to play LT at 374 lbs. My guess is he'll play OG (like Nate Newton did). He could be a great Guard and solid run blocker like Newton.
I'm just a fan that needs his day job; but watching an OL without any help from the offensive tackles for 2 straight years had us witness 3 wins 1 year and 5 wins the next. Not fun.
