  • Not that signing a punter is a huge deal...but he's been quite good.  I'm happy we're keeping him.  Now, let's continue to bring in offensive talent so that we can keep him on the bench all game.  🙂  (except for being the holder on FG's & extra points)

I am not a fan of this resigning can he kick the hell out of the ball yes,  IMO most of the long punt returns last year was him outkicking the coverage, long line drive kicks killed us on special teams, I was hoping of drafting a new punter in the 7th round this year

I agree with the title.  From Bad to Pretty Good.  But we have to wait and see them play together with any draft additions.  All and all I'm quite pleased that they've attacked the OL so heavily in FA.  (obviously they had to because they didn't have anyone - except Jones...and he's only like having half a guy since he'll be out at least half the season)

  • @dutch-oven said:

Berry just overpaid for 2 of 3 lineman just to cover up his own doings.. Berry gave them 2 & 3 year contracts.. This Lineman draft class (it's good!), AB needs to hit on 2 of 3 just to avoid the same mess in 2 years..

Find your future Tackle. And 2 scrappy kids to push Wyp & Zinter.

Build it (OL) & stop paying top dollar on it

    Another Browns disaster once signed.

Well, it's not a disaster if he was brought in mainly as a blocker.  Unless he can't block well...

I was actually referring to Conklin since he has now been let go. Never seemed healthy enough to contribute when needed.

He tried but whiffed on Zinter and Dawand Jones -while talented - can’t stay healthy.

Then he just ignored the OLine last draft, when the whole world knew the current line at that moment was about to hit their collective expiration date.

I’d like to move Elton Jenkins to Guard, where he is a two time Pro Bowler, have Kelvin Jenkins as our #6 guy, draft a center and LTackle. Dawand Jones would be our tackle sub.

I know, I know. “You want to start TWO rookies on the OLine Dutch. You sir are a silly goose!”

It’s true. I’m the silliest of gooses.

This is where I’m at- Packers Jenkins is a far better guard than center.  And  Two rookies is the limit for me.

Tackle at 24, Center in round 3 and a day 3 development tackle and lets put a bow on it.

well we improved the o-line and there is not a damn thing we can do about the past, as far as contracts go ? who freaking cares, what was their guaranteed money ? and did it really hurt our bottom line ? we are where, where we are, so let it be written so let it be done

Zinter & Jones still on rookie deals cost us a million/year ..

Tytus Howard & Zion Johnson are now being paid top 7th at RT & LG positions..18.6M & 16.5M

Haslam's never been a cheap owner.. Ya just hope a few more deals would go his way

Meh, it’s just a contract, not a marriage proposal. They’ll draft guys and sign some udfas to compete with him. We’ll see what shakes out.

I’m more concerned with getting a punt/kick return guy that can compete with the legend of Josh Cribbs. He was a gunner too.

Band income?  What's that?  🙂    We're not wealthy...although Mrs. Wife has told our children, Your father thinks he's rich!  🙂

    I understand. $.008 per stream  ?

Watching Seahawks WR/PR Rashid Shaheed gave me the vibes of watching Josh Cribbs  ? Both went undrafted

The Saints passed & both could find a faster gear on football fields..

like KC Conception & Zachariah Branch as PR/WR's that can take it to The CriBB this draft !

Ya know, if you can surround the rookies with veterans it could work.  And let's face it, they're all getting brand new playbooks and position coaches.

Maybe we'll draft Hetch, the center.  The biggest ass in the draft. 🙂

A big ass is an asset in sports. I’m serious. It’s a center of gravity thing.

Even for major league pitchers. Bartolo Colon?

FWIW JJ, he's been here longer than just last year; and he's been good at pinning opponents deep and/or flipping a bad field position situation.  Now, if someone happens to field that and return it - there's 2 things to rely on: 1) coverage as a unit per teacher's (coach's) instructions and practice repetitions of it; 2) talent on the team empowered to cover punts - and let's be honest how often this unit wasn't as talented or as well coached as the opponent's return unit pesonnel. When the NYJs not only embarrassed the Browns' punt coverage unit - they also did it to the KO coverage.  Same coach (Bubba) - same summer school students low on the depth charts exposed.

Another important responsibility this punter handled well here is holding for FGs/PATs.

It'd be hard to find a 31 year old nfl player as beat up as Jack Conkin played thru the last 2 seasons..

Looks like his contract fell off too.. But look at the Cash Haslam paid ?

     https://overthecap.com/player/jack-conklin/4721

  • In Conklin's six seasons with the Browns, he missed 44 of 101 possible games.
