Browns FA signings

Not that signing a punter is a huge deal...but he's been quite good. I'm happy we're keeping him. Now, let's continue to bring in offensive talent so that we can keep him on the bench all game.
(except for being the holder on FG's & extra points)
I am not a fan of this resigning can he kick the hell out of the ball yes, IMO most of the long punt returns last year was him outkicking the coverage, long line drive kicks killed us on special teams, I was hoping of drafting a new punter in the 7th round this year

FWIW JJ, he's been here longer than just last year; and he's been good at pinning opponents deep and/or flipping a bad field position situation. Now, if someone happens to field that and return it - there's 2 things to rely on: 1) coverage as a unit per teacher's (coach's) instructions and practice repetitions of it; 2) talent on the team empowered to cover punts - and let's be honest how often this unit wasn't as talented or as well coached as the opponent's return unit pesonnel. When the NYJs not only embarrassed the Browns' punt coverage unit - they also did it to the KO coverage. Same coach (Bubba) - same summer school students low on the depth charts exposed.
Another important responsibility this punter handled well here is holding for FGs/PATs.

I was actually referring to Conklin since he has now been let go. Never seemed healthy enough to contribute when needed.
It'd be hard to find a 31 year old nfl player as beat up as Jack Conkin played thru the last 2 seasons..
Looks like his contract fell off too.. But look at the Cash Haslam paid ?

In Conklin's six seasons with the Browns, he missed 44 of 101 possible games.

That's something I'd expect out of a beat up RB, not an OL. And how many has Jones missed so far?

Aside from that, many of those that he did play in - it was at an age and injury depreciated value. This is/was a GOOD player that had a lot of bad luck on the field. Dawand Jones showed up like a Bear that just finished hibernating on a couch all offseason when he wasn't snacking between snacks (while sleeping of course). He's the one that frustrated me the most due to the amount of talent he has wasted (very similar to Josh "Potsy" Gordon). One has to at least LIKE this game to be a dependable/reliable player. Yeah, his injuries can also be attributed to bad luck but a lot of off season strength and conditioning is aimed at preventing via stretching and keep agonist and antagonist muscle groups within specified strength proportion. For example, if the quads exceed the recommended 3 to 1 strength proportion to that of the hamstrings - the knee becomes vulnerable to injury.
There's also colliding philosophies where ballistic Olympic Lifts (that have even injured some of the best in the world competing at the Olympics or trials have suffered serious injuries doing these lifts even though they're among the best in the world at it. Now, imagine high school football programs that could be teaching kids improper form on top of it all and it's a hot mess. Anyway, it has been argued very successfully IMO that there is no proof any of the ballistic lifts thought to be mimicking specific blocking techniques actually carries over to the field. Tell that to a roided up Joe Rockhead "hey Joe, I'm bleedin - I'm pissing blood man." That's okay, doesn't hurt - does it Jimmy?" "No." "You're good - you got a great attitude!"

I agree with the title. From Bad to Pretty Good. But we have to wait and see them play together with any draft additions. All and all I'm quite pleased that they've attacked the OL so heavily in FA. (obviously they had to because they didn't have anyone - except Jones...and he's only like having half a guy since he'll be out at least half the season)
I’d like to move Elton Jenkins to Guard, where he is a two time Pro Bowler, have Kelvin Jenkins as our #6 guy, draft a center and LTackle. Dawand Jones would be our tackle sub.
I know, I know. “You want to start TWO rookies on the OLine Dutch. You sir are a silly goose!”
It’s true. I’m the silliest of gooses.

I have no problem starting 2 rookies if they are good. For sure we draft 1 in the 1st round, then a center or guard type in the 3rd. I doubt 2 would be starting opening day, but by mid season I could see.
I think we are about done with FA signings. Now we have the draft where we will probably draft 2 more OL players, then we have post June cuts and camp cuts up until the season.

A big ass is an asset in sports. I’m serious. It’s a center of gravity thing.
Even for major league pitchers. Bartolo Colon?
That's funny! Intentional or not! Big ass. Colon. LOL

If he shows up to the extent he doesn't have to be weighed in with Tractor Trailers down the road - it'll be a tiny victory we can all celebrate. Ohio State has had so many great players to choose from and all the Browns do is draft guys like Soph LB Craig Powell in rd 1, WR Brian Robiskie, and Mike Hall Jr (upper rd 2 - suspended, injured, etc season 3 on-deck).
I knew watching Dawand Jones throw TJ Watts-hisname around like he was Raggedy Andy was too good to be true. Please prove that too good to be true feeling wrong.

I believe he’s missed 26 games out of the possible 51 he could have played.

This is why we need to draft our LT. It is one of the extra important positions in the game.
I'm assuming that we've spent most of our allotment of $$$ in FA so the LT will have to be drafted.

Interesting. He’s not a sexy stat guy. He had a half sack last year.
i sometimes wonder if other players tease a guy who only got a half sack. Hey half sack, you gonna get the other half today?
Having a half a sack would suck... and hurt.
I've been drinking. This probably won't be as funny tomorrow when I read it again.
Edit: Great Lakes Conway's Irish Ale because St. Pat's is coming up, and I'm like 1/8th Irish or something like that, yo.

he has a high grade in run blocking, pass protection ? meh
Not sure what the grades are, but I'm 115 into the 525 pass pro snaps Zion took in the 2025 season.
My biggest issue with his pass pro has been his short set off ball action and then the timing/pass offs on the popular tex stunts and T-T that work his side of the line. His eyes & mentals, to be short about it.
Week 1 he did a good job minimizing Chris Jones when he got the draw. I see the potential... he's also very fluid in his pulls when LAC went power.
I'm usually not for taking players that have struggles to grasp the mental side. But, so far, when Zion is locked in, he has some really nice reps to build off of.

Browns have agreed to terms with former Lions and Jaguars safety and special teamer Daniel Thomas, per source
