Not necessarily. Plenty of things merit outrage on their own. It’s fine to acknowledge it. However, outrage porn manipulates and amplifies those feelings of anger and indignation. These are generally already the worst things in the world being amplified and for the most part we all know right from wrong. There’s really no need to amplify any of it. It’s manipulative. If you pay attention you can see what it does to people.
Thanks for bringing up Charlie Kirk. His killer, Tyler Robinson, fair chance he was influenced by outrage porn. The guy led a heavily online life. I would wager outrage porn affects younger people more than us old folks. Here’s an article about it. He was clearly moved to act against what he saw as injustice. Yes, there are constituents and therefore representatives who are all for gun control. If l had a loved one who was a victim of gun violence l might be one of them. Thankfully that’s not the case for me, but if you are l get it and l respect your position.
I grew up in a fairly rural part of Ohio. There were dude’s who had gun racks in trucks with guns right there in the parking lot of my high school. We all carried pocket knives and all of this was normal and l still carry a pocket knife to this day.
I’m not a gun guy though, but l might be the most pro 2nd amendment non-gun owner you ever met. I think we the people should have tanks and stealth bombers, in the hands of our well regulated militia of course. The spirit of the second amendment is that we should be able to go toe to toe with our govt if push comes to shove, and we are very far from that.
