We had a camp battle between a past 1st round pick pro bowler against a second year 5th round pick that nobody on this board besides me wanted us to draft. And we're shocked that the 1st rounder won the battle??
Some want to say that it's a Haslam's mandate that Watson be named the starter. When in reality, about 9 months ago, Haslam called the Watson deal a Swing And A Miss. Now his Swing And A Miss QB is named the starter by a new and impartial HC. This doesn't seem like it's making Haslam look any smarter.
This thing has played out just about exactly as I've been saying it would all along. We start the season with the veteran 1st round pick, on the road for two weeks, away from the hostile home crowd. If he plays really well, he keeps the job. If he plays really horrid in FL then maybe Sanders starts the home opener. More likely, he'll not play great or awful and we'll have to wait a bit for him to get himself hurt...because he plays dumb and takes on tacklers when he runs. Then we'll see Sanders play. He will eventually get hurt because he will be playing dumb and taking on tacklers because his job depends on him winning games and keeping the team from drafting a QB in round 1 next year. Of which, IMO, will be our future...bundling picks to take a new QB in '27. But we'll see how many college QB's ruin their draft rankings and how many improve theirs by the end of November.

This is exactly what I was thinking. Play the Rapist turd, when he sucks, put in the other guys. It's easy and no one will question it even the owner. They are playing for next years draft IMHO. I'm predicting a pedestrian year for our D. I don't think the impact that Garrett had on our D is being taken into the equation correctly. We won 2 games to division rivals at the end of last season because of Myles Garrett. And he only had ONE sack in those two games. Just his mere presence on one side of the LOS had those 2 QB's running scared in the other direction. Opposing coaches game plan all week on him.
[ Now, I'm going to say this about Myles: As the season wore on he changed his game plan. Each snap was all about him getting a sack. If it was a run to the opposite side, he just kind of jogged (if that) in pursuit. Keeping himself fresh for his next 'get-off' at the next snap. You could run the ball right up underneath him because he's got his ears pinned back and he's going upfield. ]
And losing Alex Wright is a big loss at DE. We've been without him before, but this year we really needed him. I don't think we'll be a top 10 D...even though we have some good pieces.
