Joe Freakin' Haden
-
I think it would be wonderful if we had Peterson.
I am not saying that is the direction we should go....simply saying 2 great corners puts a big hurt on other teams.
-
How does Rob Ryan not start Joe Haden over Eric Wright earlier in the season and not only that, how about when Wright was getting torched in Baltimore and we never rotated Haden in? Never even gave Haden the nod after that game either.
Haden probably is the best defensive player we have had in Cleveland in the past decade, and he is playing only because of an injury. eek!
When Colt is healthy, he needs to be re-inserted over Jake 'Wright'.
-
Maybe because Eric Wright knew the defense inside and out, and Joe Freakin Haden came from a very different system ?
-
Got to watch him in person... and he had a spectacular game. He's really growing on me. By far our best cover guy already.
We need WRs really bad. When you have a #1 corner but no #1 WR, you don't draft a corner in the top half of the first round.

Well, we have a #1 corner now.
And I was happy as a clam when the Browns took Joe with that pick. The BPA at the biggest position of need. Barring Al Davis' craziness of drafting punters and kickers in the first round, if you can get Pro Bowl talent at ANY position in the first round, you've done well. Dez was an attitude risk, and now he's out for the year with a wrecked foot. OK, I'm with you that we need a true #1 wr badly. But I think you can agree- without Joe in the lineup, the Browns would have lost to the Dolphins. You need those stud CBs to cover those stud WRs. Might be a bit early, but are we seeing the second coming of Frank Minnifield with Joe?
However, I can't see taking another CB in the first round next year as some have posited- it's AJ Green if he's there, or Julio Jones if he's not. Actually, I wouldn't mind Nick Fairley, but he'll be long gone by the time the Browns draft 12-15 or so.
-
I never thought Haden wasn't good. I'm just not huge on taking a corner that high. Devin McCourty is playing great, too.
But we picked him and he's good and I'm happy.
-
Haden was the ONLY player I wanted with that 7th pick, & when you look at the value our two top picks in this past draft brought to us in Haden & Ward, I'll take 'em over any other team's top two picks, with the possible exception of Seattle & Detroit (keeping in mind their top 2 picks were all 1st rounders).
I would really like to see how many missed tackles Haden has had...I'm bettin' it's very low. He is SOLID!

That has probably been posted before but I think its needs back up here again.
The reason Joe Haden was drafted as High as he was is because once he gets accustomed to the pro game he will cover any receiver you set him on like a glove. Taking an entire side of the field away from the opposing O does wonders for your pass rush and D in general.
The ravens v steelers game showed that to win in this division you have to have the badass defence there is no if, ands, or buts about it.

I had seen that Sports Science show & as incredible as his athleticism is, Joe was recruited by Florida as a QB & asked to play cornerback as a true Freshman, starting at corner 1st game of his freshman year. How many players recruited for the glamorous position of QB at a major D1 school would accept moving to DB? That alone is amazing at that level of College football. As good as this kid is now, he is only going to get better given his limited experience as a corner, & that's almost scary. The kid is indeed the total package.
Number 23 will be MY next jersey.

Shep, you just have to get over taking a (name a position) high. The Browns needs in the 2010 draft in no particular order- were secondary help, a monster pass rusher, and WR.
As I said we weren't taking Dez Bryant because of the bad character rap. I'll let you do 20\20 hindsight (I just did) and peruse the way the first round shook out and name someone you'd rather have @ #8 right now instead of Joe. We could play Nostradamus and say we could have traded down a few slots, but who would have wanted to move up into the Browns slot? I say the Browns were stuck where they were, and absolutely got the best player possible, AT A POSITION OF NEED. So he's a cornerback- so what- after a Pro Bowl or two it won't matter where he was drafted.

We needed a corner, and it paid off. Clearly Eric Wright isn't getting the job done. Haden is playing great and is getting better every game. I normally wouldn't take a corner that high, but clearly its paying dividends.

It's great that so many of our offseason additions already have become fan favorites: Hillis & Ward are the hard-nosed players the city loves, Haden's recent play has everyone excited, and McCoy will get more love than all of them if he gets healthy and finishes the season strong.
Man, Tom Heckert is a beast.

Also, if anyone hasn't heard about the latest twitter craze, you should check it out. Joe Haden has been tweeting about his Official Twitter fan page @JoeHaden_Nation ....all Browns should check it out. It keeps me updated on all the latest Browns and Haden news!

Ha how many players do we have now that used to be QB's. Having players like that just opens up the ability to use trick plays on offense and special teams which is great, plus that past experience does wonders for players who play WR or DB. If Haden didn't have that QB experience he might not be anywhere near as good as he is right now and that is also why I think Cribbs is only going to keep getting better at WR because with his past QB experience he knows how to read the gaps in opposing defenses.
If you don't believe me just look at Bowling Green's Freddie Barnes who broke the NCAA all time reception record last year. was a QB throughout high school and his freshman year at BG and switched the WR. The guy only runs a 4.6 but was able to read gaps in the defense allowing him to trail off his route by a few yards allowing him to get wide open for on average 13 catches a game.

Check out this article: Race for the Rookie of the Year: Tightening up at the top
2. Joe Haden, CB, Browns (+12.0)
Continues to impress, and it says something that he looks like the best CB from an already extremely impressive draft class. Our No. 5 ranked cornerback overall has got his hands to 23.64% of balls thrown his way. Last week: 4th

We need more -players- like Joe Haden.
IT's a tale of two corners, I'm just entering some excerpts from the Canton Repository Steve Doerschuk's article:
***************************
"Wright conflicted"
Eric Wright:
"I've never been a backup or been on the bench my entire life, and I don't want to know what it feels like."
"At this time last year, people were saying I'm a top guy, and now it's completely different."
Wright, who started before sitting out the Carolina game with a knee problem, says he might struggle to find "a rhythm" as a backup.
**************
"Defensive coordinator Rob Ryan said rookie cornerback Joe Handen is clearly ahead of where All-Pro Nnamdi Asomugha was as a
young cornerback. Ryan became defensive coordinator in Oakland when Asomugha was a second year pro."
"Ryan said Haden is very deserving of his NFL rookie of the month award. "He's really becoming a helluva player. He really is everything
you want in a cornerback"

As a Gator, I knew Joe was good and got tired of defending the guy and figured i would just wait and let people who never really saw him play other than a game heer or there figure it out.
Seems now they have.
The exciting thing is he is only going to get better.
Corner is a position, much like QB, the more experience you get, the better you get.
Some positions like back and receiver, you don't get much better....corners get better until they lose their speed at some point in their 30's.
-
Yep, it's funny how watching a guy every week gives you a sense of how good he is...
Watching Haden shut down Julio Jones -- a receiver a lot of people want in the top 15 -- Terrance Toliver (LSU), and for the most part Greg Childs (Arkansas) proved that this guy can ball.
